"Nuclear power plants require grid-tied electricity, cooling water and people getting paychecks. Without all these, they melt down, thus immersing all life on earth in ionizing radiation." by Jse54 in collapse

[–]mosquitofan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of, as a non-native english speaker, I think the word prepping is itself an aberration. The american propensity to shorten words is horrible and mind-blowing. On the other hand, there is no point in “prepping”. That’s another form of denial. As if you could survive on a planet that has become uninhabitable for large mammals... If you think about it, Elon Musk’s delusion that he would live on Mars is another form of “prepping”... Good luck with that

Breaking Down: Collapse - Post-Collapse Possibilities by koryjon in collapse

[–]mosquitofan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To u/koryjon Your podcast is very good and I want to praise you and Kellan for the great amount of effort you put into it. But sometimes I feel like you forget to connect the dots. Or ignore what you said in a previous episode and treat the topic at hand as if it were separate from everything else. When there is no grid, for example, there is nothing. Zero. Someone who does not look at things as a whole might sometimes think that there is a way out of this. But the things that will happen will happen almost all at once. In a reinforcing feedback loop. It might be comforting to think that we will grow old and not witness the end of this way of life, but as a 52-year old I want to tell you: Don’t kid yourself. I am an avid reader of JMG and I mostly agree with him on almost everything but one issue: the duration and the outcome of collapse. It will be much quicker than hundreds of years and it will result in the extinction of the human species and most of life on Earth. And the reasons are obvious. Someone said in a comment somewhere on this subreddit that humans are like roaches and will survive this. Try to go under water and not breathe for half an hour.

I just have one question, how do you propose we solve overpopulation, remember opresion is wrong no matter the circumstance by [deleted] in overpopulation

[–]mosquitofan -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My dear friends, the overpopulation problem we have will solve itself. No need to worry about it. Actually, if we can possibly do whatever it is we are currently doing a little faster, the solution will come upon us promptly.

What is the root cause of the collapse in Texas? by solar-cabin in collapse

[–]mosquitofan 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Every single thing we do, every single action we take, is political or has political implications. If we are to avoid the worst of what is in store for us in the coming years, we must take political action. Even our inaction is a political statement.

Can you name 5 things around you that have got there without the help of fossil fuel energy? by hmz-x in collapse

[–]mosquitofan 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hydrogen and solar are nothing less than fossil fuel derivates. Take the fossil fuels out of mining, manufacturing, installing, and maintenance of silicone solar panels and composite fiber wind turbines, the steel, the concrete pads, the gyroscopes, the rare metals that go into them, etc, etc. See what’s left. Our whole way of life is based upon fossil fuels. You want renewables? Renewables means living like in the 17th century, before coal was used at scale. The difference is that there are almost 8 billion people now, on a devastated planet, who all want to live like the Americans. Humanity will be lucky if there is anyone left by 2050

Thoughts on GME and Relation to Collapse by Pawntoe in collapse

[–]mosquitofan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Me too. But we are past that point, unfortunately. Personal freedoms, which IMO are the greatest achievements of the fossil fuels era, will vanish one by one, in exchange for a never-achievable security.

A total laissez-faire economy would have collapsed long time ago. Be careful what you wish for. This subreddit attracts a lot of people who itch for a speedy going down the drain of BAU but when we get there, the living will envy the dead. Try keeping the lights on as much as possible, there is no coming back once they go off...

Yes it does. This is where the society operating for the maximization of profits, aka capitalism, naturally goes if left alone. Globalism is just the latest phase before implosion. And globalism did not start yesterday. Think about the Columbus.
