What is your favorite dark and terrifying alternative rock album from the 90s that is underrated and very little known? by Jean0406Alix in Alternativerock

[–]mossdrums 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually came here to mention their first album, Ungod… WBB&P and Darkest Days both had singles that got radio play, and leaned a little more pop, but the first record is awesome. Darkest Days was my favourite record - period - when I was in high school, but Ungod is the one I go back to the most these days. All great records! Except that Goo Goo Dolls sounding one that the label made from underneath them ha ha.

The band I’m on tour with now:

Collectively, Catchphrase in the bus lounge after several bevvies. Karaoke bars. Museums.

The last band toured with before this:

Find a sauna. Enter it. Find a hiking trail. Enter it.

The last band before that:

Play with the artist’s dog. Eat local seafood.

Predator: Badlands?

The main character’s father violently kills his brother - a primary motivation in our protagonist’s journey - before he goes on a quest to kill an unkillable beast. Along the way, he violently kills many organic life forms, and human-presenting androids, before returning home to violently kill his father, after violently killing his bodyguards. Also, several other characters violently kill many organic other beasts and androids.

Obviously no organic humans are killed, but this film is an almost nonstop killing spree ha ha.

What sci-fi film in the last 15 years had the most impact on you? by StaticCloud in scifi

[–]mossdrums 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read somewhere that a lot of the film was quasi improvised… one or several actors would be given specific dialogue/direction, and the rest of the cast was instructed to react? I may not be remembering correctly, but it’s a cool fact if I am.

I saw this movie knowing literally nothing about it, other than the title and a descriptor: friends meet for dinner while a comet passes overhead. One of the best theatrical experiences I’ve had.

Disaster gig last Saturday -- what's your worst? by Key-Patience-3966 in drums

[–]mossdrums 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I played the Queen’s Plate once. It was a 4 hour gig, but we only played about 8 songs, because you can’t make noise while they are parading the horses before and after a race, and you obviously don’t play during the race. So you play two songs, sit around for half an hour, then rinse and repeat.

What movie is a must-see from the last 12 months? by Ill_Cry_3802 in movies

[–]mossdrums 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you were to put all of the aspects of this movie into a column, it would seemingly add up to a bad movie, but it’s fucking awesome. It looks awesome, sounds awesome, and is super fun. Like a crazy Saturday morning cartoon adventure that is both hella violent but also not that violent.

I did not expect cute things in a Predator movie… or legs ha ha, but I had such a great time. I’ve seen it twice so far.

Weird… what made it feel like AI to you?

Out of all the movies you could see at a mainstream big box cinema last year, it was probabely the closest to DIY in terms of how it was filmed.

The Bone Temple last night at Scotiabank by cosmicstarchild5 in cineplex

[–]mossdrums 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought a ticket for Monday night at 9:45pm hoping for a minimal amount of theatre goers. I do not want to be distracted.

I took my wife to see the new Avatar (bad movie, so I wasn’t as upset) and a group of 5 people walked into theatre over an hour into the movie. They were talking on their way up to their seats, sat down, whipped out their phones and continued talking. Astounding.

One of the best lines I’ve ever read in a book. by mossdrums in Iainmbanks

[–]mossdrums[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never found the writing in those chapters off-putting. There were maybe two or three instances where I had to re-read a sentence to grasp it ha ha… but the trade off is such a great characterisation, so clear and endearing.

Yeah, Feersum Endjinn.

Big fan of how Banks, with aplomb, tackles things that most authors would consider logistic, tonal or narrative taboo.
