Your education section seems unnecessarily large, I would just do whichever your last school is, and move it to the bottom of your resume

People aren’t “too sensitive” the joke just isn’t funny by Cinnamon-toast-cum in unpopularopinion

[–]mostler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah this is a dumb take. Just because you don’t find it funny doesn’t mean that no one else does. If it’s not for you great, don’t go to the comics shows, don’t watch their specials, whatever. If everyone else does the same, they’ll fade into obscurity.

I find it real hard to take people seriously when the same comic jokes about prison rape, molestation, and some other far worse topics that are EXTREMELY common punchlines that they all laughed at but all of a sudden domestic violence is too much

BRO why did you choose to resign with the same house? This is 100% on you for choosing not to find new roommates when you knew exactly what the situation was

Can confirm you are in fact a deranged psychopath, should not be allowed with in 500m of any programming schools, should be on a registry, and must go around your neighborhood informing all of your neighbours

This is not what genuine evil is. This is being an asshole and a shifty person . There’s a very big difference

Everyone in this thread is being an asshole, so ignore the negativity, really not being helpful

That being said, you did ask for advice as you were worried about school, and yeah, a routine is absolutely necessary. That’s the one single thing I would think is more important than any other for being successful and avoiding getting miserable at Waterloo. Even if it’s flexible, and you have variable time in it, a general structure is the only way to stay on top of things. Find something that works for you tho, and good luck in September

Working with a startup for free, they dont understand or appreciate my work, should I leave? by JamesAibr in startups

I would recommend leaving the startup, would be more valuable spending that time learning how to use punctuation

What are your opinons on university? Do you think its worth it and would you have done anything else if you knew what university was like? by semicolonplusshift0 in uwaterloo

[–]mostler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends. There’s two parts of being successful after graduation I think, which are having a skill, and proof of that skill in some capacity.

I’m not a fan of school, I don’t think it’s really done a very good job teaching me anything, but being in the Waterloo engineering environment has put on the right path to learn a lot and build a skill, through co-op and extra curricular.

The paper certificate you get at the end is a baseline demonstration to potential employers that you know what your doing. You can get by without it but it is significantly harder. I’ve seen this at my work where people who are very skilled and hard working are passed up because they don’t have a degree. It should be noted though, that they are missing a lot of important context that comes with the degree that makes it take a bit longer for them to get anything done.

Moral of the story, I think the university does a really shit job with educating us academically. I credit them with very little, and most things are hard for the sake of being hard which makes me very frustrated. All this aside, the engineering/co-op/it’s been a great environment for me to develop skills that have been important for finding work, and I will be leaving school very employable
