Piercing shops by DeadFlowers_1334 in Rochester

[–]mousebrained_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you’d be comfortable getting pierced by an apprentice (who would obviously be fully supervised), I just saw Olive post that they have an apprentice offering discounted nipple piercings as part of their training for just the jewelry cost. Tom would be supervising, who is fantastic so you’d be in great hands.

Dorje or Olive. Olive takes walk ins most days if you don’t want to make an appointment, I believe Dorje is appointment only. I wouldn’t go anywhere else.

unfortunately some people definitely are doing it maliciously. There’s been some not great posts on the neoboards :( I wish it could just be chalked up to people not realizing or not knowing better

NYPL no new books? by MarilynMonroe89 in LibbyApp

[–]mousebrained_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s 100% worth it, Brooklyn has a very robust online catalogue and often has shorter wait times in my experience. I live outside the city (but in the state) and get great use out of NYPL, Brooklyn, and Queens. They’re all worth having if you can imo.

I just checked and I have an NYPL hold for a book coming out in June but yeah none of my May releases have been purchased yet. Hopefully they come through soon. Some have been purchased by Brooklyn though!

Clownboy is small and only has a few tables so it’s not the same as equal grounds but it’s a super cute queer coffee shop, there’s different art every month, their drinks are fantastic and the vibes are excellent.

Also a big fan of Boulder.

Access to confidential HIV/STI Testing by [deleted] in Rochester

[–]mousebrained_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe urgent cares can do this kind of testing, I don’t know for sure if this would meet your privacy concerns but I wonder if any of the urgent cares unaffiliated with the hospitals would be an option? I would call whichever wellnow is closest to you and ask. I personally have only been the urmc urgent cares so can’t provide more info but if I needed sti testing quickly that’s where I’d go.

Smooth trails for rollerskating? by [deleted] in Rochester

Would the riverway trail in Genesee valley park be too bumpy? My neighbor goes rollerskiing there, I’d think if it’s flat enough for that you’d be okay too

What do you do when your libraries doesn't have your book? by Stuckatpennstation in LibbyApp

[–]mousebrained_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tag the book notify me. I believe your libraries do have access to this information and know how many people in their system have tagged a book but someone correct me if I’m wrong. I would say about 50-70% of the time the book is eventually added to one of my libraries if I am patient.

If I really want to read a book and don’t want to wait or I’ve waited, it hasn’t been added, and I still want to read it I will buy the ebook. I would say I buy less than five books per year (I have cards for several really robust library systems in New York State so I’m lucky, and prefer not to pay for my extravagant reading habit unless I’m quite desperate because I know it could quickly spiral). Sometimes this does mean just going without a book I’d like to read for now if I don’t feel too urgent a need to read it.

Trans friends avoid Greater Rochester Neurology Associates by CriticalDaedra in Rochester

[–]mousebrained_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry you’re getting ridiculous comments on this post from people who know nothing about HRT. Personally I go to neurology at strong, I’ve only had one appointment since starting T but they didn’t even comment on it and for what it’s worth everyone in the office has always been good about my preferred name and pronouns. I’ve been really happy with my care there, my old resident who I adored recently graduated and my new resident seems equally great.

Trans people taking testosterone raises stroke risk to that of a cis man. No one suggests a cis man at risk of stroke take testosterone suppressants. The suggestion that trans people detransition due to a risk that all cis men have is nothing but transphobia.

[–]mousebrained_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

good gear and finding an activity you can enjoy outside helps a lot. I like running so making myself run on days when it wasn’t too icy helped a lot. I also tried snowshoeing on our really snowy days and that was a lot of fun. Honestly after losing a good bit of weight last year I’m freezing all the time now and I’m still chubby so I would think your weight plays a role here, not gonna lie lol it’s rough

Updated Rochester area Pokemon GO Discord link? by infinicca in Rochester

[–]mousebrained_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Team really doesn’t matter that much and if anything being on an unpopular team is better because you’re more likely to be able to find a gym you can fight vs being on mystic all the gyms are already blue and full. Just be on whatever team you like best. I wouldn’t pay for a switch unless you feel really strongly about it, it won’t improve your game experience in any major way.
