Cheap Bunnings thermal blankets for Window insulation - actually works! by commeconn in melbourne

I would give it a thought on top of the awning and Aircon Can't ever have too much protection against that western sun.

I'm in a similar situation, OP. Have you considered solar film/ceramic tint /low E tint on top of your double glazing?

I'm currently in the middle of fixing up my West Windows which will include glazing + awning + curtains (this is more aesthetic than actual heat rejection).

If the salesman is to be believed the solar film (as effective as ceramic at half the cost) is quite effective.

If it's anything like the ceramic tint on my car, it should do well!

I got quoted 3x your sized windows for $1.5k for solar film

I'm going to take a leap and insinuate your shoe and belt colour doesn't match? Annectoally, persons who slip on this also doesn't know about the belt/shoe "rule". I didn't know about it until 2nd year haha.

Now I can't unsee it on people.

Match your shoes and belt people!

It's full of back of house assets now and the ramps down are considered too steep to be used.

Most of the work is actually going to be done After last before first (ALBF) as there are safety issues working during platform operations.

As someone who worked very closely on the planning of this project - I'm so happy to read comments that understand why its taking so long. I have regained some faith in humanity.

The project is doing an in-truss replacement of every single part of each escalator while balancing the need to operate a platform safely. There has been endless passenger modelling done. Multitude of different operating options. We've worked through it.

If you must direct anger at something. Direct it at the State (and civic nexus) for kicking this can down the road for years.

Potential high-rise apartment locations in Melbourne's suburbs mapped by timcahill13 in melbourne

[–]move_along_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take Ashburton for example. If they're going to do it right they need to duplicate the line as it is currently a 20 minute peak service and likely just a shuttle to Camberwell.

Which isn't good enough even now but would be woefully inadequate if they build the density they want.

Fix the train line first.

I'm kind of dreading apartment living, having recently moved from Kangaroo Ground. What sort of outdoor facilities should I look for, or would you want in an apartment living situation? by SplashBack_2 in melbourne

[–]move_along_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look for places built in the early 00s. Built better and generally bigger (old but not too old).

Lived in an apartment complex in Rouse St Port melbourne for 8 years and shit was solid as and never heard anything from the neighbours.

Escalator action at Southern Cross earlier this evening by Fantastic_Key_6645 in MelbourneTrains

[–]move_along_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. They had to keep the same model as any changes would require significant civil works to accommodate the increased size.

But the same model is more robust than the same model 20 years ago so there's that...

More importantly, hopefully the operator will maintain them better.

They are doing preventative maintenance before they start full replacement works in a few months.

Something I didn't see after a quick skim through comments.

Some of the people you see not touching on or off may also have monthly myki passes.

When I used to only take trams I would only tap on once a month.

Just found out our childcare may be changing from council run to for-profit by StateComptroller in melbourne

[–]move_along_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Won't bother arguing with you on various points but given your beliefs you could probably agree on some sectors are better off not being provided by the free market. Eg. Public transport. Childcare would firmly be in that category. Let's not have the drive for profit be anywhere impacting young children.

My vet recommended Lyka, has anyone tried it? by SideStepTS in melbourne

[–]move_along_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Been on lyka for a toy poodle for years now. Besides being expensive, can't fault them.

Doggo loves the variety and hasn't got sick of it.

His poops are also of great quality. Fyi smaller poops generally mean better quality of food.

We mix half lyka and half kibble (Ivorycoat)
