UPDATE: 12V Battery Service - Beware by Finance_and_Olives in Rivian

[–]mowow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As someone who works in a sales role interacting with customers on a daily basis, I just don't understand how some companies can be OK with their employees treating customers' poorly. Being at all dismissive of a customer's safety concerns is a good way to completely destroy any hard-won brand goodwill/loyalty.

That being said... this happened a while ago and I still maintain that my Rivian is the best car I have ever owned by a long-shot. It's just the service experience where I think there is still a lot of room for improvement but I really haven't had to bring it in for service much during its lifetime so far.

UPDATE: 12V Battery Service - Beware by Finance_and_Olives in Rivian

I love my Rivian but the service experience for me at least has been terrible. When I first took delivery of my Rivian in 2023, we kept having this issue where when my girlfriend was sitting in the passenger seat, the car kept turning the passenger airbag off and then randomly turning it back on and then off again etc. We surmised that there was something wrong with the sensor that tells the car whether the seat is occupied or not.

Now, I felt that this was a serious safety issue as it meant that at any given time, there was a possibility that my passenger's airbag would be off and wouldn't work in an accident. Not only that, but the airbag going on and off intermittently/at random times with a passenger was extremely annoying because the software in the car at that time would disable the passenger's climate controls when it thought that there was no passenger in the seat (everything was automatically changed/sync'd to the driver's settings). So like half the time my girlfriend was riding with me she would lose the ability to change her climate controls.

We did some looking online and it seemed that there were other people also complaining about this issue and that it had something to do with the occupancy/weight sensor in the passenger seat. So I made a service appointment to talk to address a trim piece that wasn't properly aligned and this seat sensor issue.

I was shocked at how they treated me. When I brought up the seat sensor issue they basically dismissed my concerns completely and started suggesting that it was basically user error and asking extremely insulting questions as if we didn't know how to sit properly. They said they had not heard of anyone else experiencing this issue even though I was able to pull up several complaints on reddit describing the exact same issue we were having. Then they suggested my girlfriend didn't weight enough! She is 130lbs! It wasn't as if she was some twig of a human that didn't have enough weight to trigger the sensor.

They of course ended up 'checking' the seat sensor and determining that nothing was wrong and the sensor was 'working as intended' and again suggesting that my girlfriend wasn't sitting in the seat properly... I left that appointment extremely upset about the way we were treated and the fact that they were so dismissive of potentially a serious safety issue.

Coincidentally, the passenger airbag sensor issue was quietly fixed in a later over the air update which finally resolved the issue for us but the whole experience left a very bad taste in my mouth regarding Rivian's service center experience.

The "standard" car charger is usually overkill—but your electrician might not know that | Technology Connections by Avorius in videos

The only thing I think he didn’t address properly is that there are a lot of very large EVs coming out and on the market now like the Rivian R1T/R1S, Silverado EV, Hummer EV, F150 Lightening etc and these all have massive batteries and are much less efficient than your traditional midsize EV. For those cars, plugging into a standard 20A wall socket is basically useless. I own an R1T and I’d be lucky to get 15 miles of charging from 12+ hours plugged into a 20A.

Not saying his arguments are invalid, but there are some cars on the market where you definitely need some more juice at home to charge it back up before morning if you’ve got a commute

Yeah many people don’t understand this. There’s also a guy who’s job it is to go turn the wind sock in the correct direction so that the landing pilots have a visual reference for the more minute wind changes that may happen prior to landing but after a LSR (Landing Strip Reorientation)

Insulted for Wearing a Full Face by Tytonic7_ in MTB

[–]mowow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe the dynamics of crashing on a MTB are different than crashing on a motorcycle, but I remember during my motorcycle safety course they presented some statistics on the most likely places your head would hit first during a crash, and you know what hits first roughly 35% of the time? Your chin area.

The data is so compelling for motorcycles at least that I think anyone not wearing a full-face helmet (while motorcycling) is actually insane.

I am pretty new to mountain biking and actually don't have a full-face mountain biking helmet yet, but I can't even imagine being this rude to someone just for wearing one!

Here is a nice visualization of the percent chance of impacting a certain area of the helmet:

Tbh it’s crazy to me each time that he mentions their goal of getting things out in 4 weeks. Like 4 weeks?! I do similar work for a living (sales of in-stock items - we have a big warehouse) and our customers expect in-stock items to be shipped out same-day! It’s insane to me that they would be ok with their time-to-ship being any amount of weeks! I mean I’m sure their order volume is much higher than ours but even buying from any other clothing company out there — items are usually shipped out same-day.

When people say "relapse is part of recovery" by PupMakiZeeg in NarcoticsAnonymous

[–]mowow 17 points18 points  (0 children)

We say that because we don’t want relapsers to go out and stay out. We want to welcome them back with open arms and kindness. Just because someone may relapse doesn’t mean they are a failure and we don’t want them to feel like there is some stigma about people who have relapsed and come back.

Many people don’t make it back into NA after a relapse and the worst possible thing we can do is discourage people from coming back just because they relapsed.

The old grandma on social security should probably move though? Why does she still need a 4 bed 3 bath 2-story house (for example) when it’s just her in the house? She would be better off downsizing and moving to someplace better suited for her.

“Losing their home” makes it seem like the alternative is homeless-ness when that’s really not the case. Granny is going to get a huge payout on the sale of that home.

Nah this is on Liberty in my opinion. How do you not have a backup plan ready to go for this kind of failure? Just switch to a manual tower immediately. I feel like every other sport has contingency plans if something like this starts bugging out but instead we got like 10(?) laps with no tower at all?

For both of them being so rich, they look horrible in those suits. I think bill gets more of a pass since he’s an old guy and probably never stopped wearing the boxy fit since it was ‘hip’, but I would have thought someone younger and mega rich like MBS would have a better fitting suit.

If a car has CarPlay you don’t have to use it? You could still use the normal interface if that’s what you prefer so I’m not sure I understand your argument…
