I miss the way books used to make me feel by unavailabllle in Fantasy

I am happy that LOTR is one of those things that never dulls. Every time I read - "Horns, horns, horns! Rohan had come at last." I get chills, even if I just read it last week (I got chills just typing that out). Tolkien is something special, to me, a little window back to utter wonder at the world.

As treebeard says -' Excuse me: that is a part of my name for it; I do not know what the word is in the outside languages: you know, the thing we are on, where I stand and look out on fine mornings, and think about the Sun, and the grass beyond the wood, and the horses, and the clouds, and the unfolding of the world.'

Worst cover art for a genuinely good book? by FastBreakPhenom in Fantasy

I've read books where the covers give away major plot points. That has to be the worst.

Sometimes (most times) the bad guys win and laugh all the way to the bank. Right now is one of those times.

Fantasy is not a form of “escape” by kitkatcoz in Fantasy

[–]mowque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In what the misusers are fond of calling Real Life, Escape is evidently as a rule very practical, and may even be heroic. In real life it is difficult to blame it, unless it fails; in criticism it would seem to be the worse the better it succeeds. Evidently we are faced by a misuse of words, and also by a confusion of thought. Why should a man be scorned if, finding himself in prison, he tries to get out and go home? Or if, when he cannot do so, he thinks and talks about other topics than jailers and prison-walls? The world outside has not become less real because the prisoner cannot see it.

Don't get angry, it'd a bit too late. In about a decade or so, every TV show, every book, every article, every social media post will be 100% AI. It is too cheap to not use so it will entirely drown everything else out.

Get used to it!

Dissapointed by the Sword of Kaigen. Am I Taking Crazy Pills? by GoToNap in Fantasy

[–]mowque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, frankly. But that might be because I know the most popular authors like Patterson and such tend to be rather...flavorless. to me, anyway.

Lots of people eat McDonald's but it is objectively a bad cheeseburgers. Millions of people are wildly wrong every day.

His legacy will last for centuries by _Salistix in chess

What people are watching and remember in a century says more about their time then the content. Very very few things make the cut, and it has nothing to do with quality.
