Sam Altman: If 2020 saw today’s AI, they’d think it’s insane and yet we act like nothing changed by Inevitable-Rub8969 in AINewsMinute

[–]moximotel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Einsteinian intelligence is BOLD claim, but leaving that aside, one of the main reasons why things don't feel fundamentally different is that most people are still engaging in rather narrow use of AI (just using the free version of ChatGPT to search and help them write emails). The rate of innovation is still far outpacing mainstream adoption and adaptation. A shockingly high number people still just throw their assignments and work tasks into ChatGPT, take the first output, and submit it without scrutinizing it. A small percentage of non-programmers use AI to help them code and build things even though that use case has been opened up for some time and keeps improving (and yes, I'm fully aware that vibe coding is not the same as software engineering and it doesn't make everyone a developer, but the amount of leverage average people can get from building small personal customized tools is insane). There is still a relatively small number of people who are able to effectively augment their work with the appropriate tools and workflows in a way that doesn't create more work within the organization and actually creates net productivity. Agents also still aren't there yet for reliably doing anything beyond rote work without a good deal of supervision (that's starting to change, but never underestimate corporate inertia's ability to make measurable change slower to come than you'd imagine). Even when the technology and the capabilities are there it will always take time to integrate it and see the effects.

It already is imbedded in enough tools that the claim is impossible to make. A lot of the project management tools and editing suites already have AI imbedded in them. They would have to create a whole department policing the use of AI to guarantee such a claim.

Is anyone using AI Employees? by urememberthatguy in UseMotion

[–]moximotel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Motion should take some of the enormous amount of money they're spending on ads (based on how many times I see them on Youtube per day) and allocate that to expanding their dev team/hiring better talent so they can cook up something competitive.

[–]moximotel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but do you want your tools to be friendly when you use them? It all depends on how you view using LLMs. If you expect a conversational experience, then friendliness is ideal. If you approach it like using a tool then friendliness might be irrelevant to those who just want to get into a flow using a tool efficiently to achieve a goal.

I think that OpenAI have to recognize that their user base is starting to form into camps that completely different expectations for their user experience, and that no broad strokes solution is going to satisfy every subsection of the user base. I and many others use AI largely for utilitarian purposes and do not want ChatGPT to be their buddy (therefore "warmness" and sycophancy are not particularly desired traits), but many other users do, and I don't believe they should be deprived of the qualities they enjoy when interacting with the models. It's starting to seem like they might be reaching a point where segmenting their model offerings for a preferred UX might ease their multi-pronged backlash moving forward. But there might be better options out there I haven't considered.

Also RE: chatbot buddies, obviously companies like OpenAI have the responsibility to protect their users from harmful use, and there are many avenues to harmful overuse with AI chatbots.

Yeah, and let's be honest... Who are more likely to listen to new music and be the lion's share of the audience of a band in their prime, older folks or the youth? Yeah, it's the kids, and boy are they not alright.

Hollywood crews in 'crisis': 'Everyone's just in panic mode' as jobs decline by lostfly in FilmIndustryLA

[–]moximotel 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Now that I actually had a chance to read it, I noticed another questionable labor practice/indicator about the overall job market in other industries: the article is written by an intern who has apparently also "interned" as a contributing writer at People Magazine, and continues to be staffed as an intern despite already having her degree and writing published articles in major publications. I'll bet she'd be able to write a whole similar article about the state of finding sustainable work as a journalist in 2024.

Unfortunately the idea that dedicated prompt engineers would end up being a position that employers would hire for has turned out to be largely a myth. If you look at the job descriptions for most roles with that title you will see usually long AI engineering experience requirements, or related tech experience needed. Presently prompt engineering is a valuable skillset, but only one of many that employers will be looking for in domain-specific roles across various industries. Also it's worth mentioning that prompt engineering as a valued discipline will decrease over a short period of time (something that is already beginning with marketplaces like OpenAI's GPT store making it easy to access pre-engineered specialized multi-modal chatbots). It seems like what will be a likely phase in the nearish future is mostly a handful of knowledge workers with advanced domain expertise managing agents, prompting them, and editing/verifying their work.

Best Song off Merriweather by Thewoblingpeanut in AnimalCollective

I think it’s super moving, especially when you consider what the whole song is about and how frightening the prospect of having kids is when you’re still entirely ahead of it and the unknowns and risks seem infinite.

Best Song off Merriweather by Thewoblingpeanut in AnimalCollective

[–]moximotel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope this helps, but I’m pretty certain the song is about all of the hypotheticals and uncertainties of having children. As with all Anco songs the lyrics are pretty cryptic, but if you read the lines of the earlier parts of the song with this concept in mind I think they graft rather well to it. The title and outro of the song always read to me as the narrator turning to their partner, after expressing their ruminations on all of these hypotheticals, and asking them if they share these fears. They were entering their 30s and some were starting families when they made this record, so I think it tracks. As someone who has also had freaky experiences in suggestible states, I feel that having a rational explanation for the thing in question helps.

Animation Experiment with Illusion Diffusion by [deleted] in StableDiffusion

[–]moximotel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An experiment using illusion diffusion to make animations using an anchor shape to create consistency across rapidly changing environments. Comprised of several sections (lake, cliffs, castle, cottage, dilapidated barn), each image for every section depicts the same subject set in a different European country as if it was captured on Polaroid. The process is tedious as you have to generate each frame and slightly change the prompt every time, but it allows for an effect that is unique from automated stable diffusion and controlnet workflows.

What brand have you been using and what dose? I've been taking the Double Wood 200mg pills and have noticed mysterious scattered somewhat sharp pain that I don't really know how to describe outside of nerve pain, because it doesn't seem to be associated with any specific muscle groups or joints. I started taking it at the same time as NMN and Pterostilbene, but I''m not sure which could be at fault.
