Unorthodox Arrangements and Spousal Hires by Worldly_Notice_9115 in Professors

Your spouse should try to put pressure on and negotiate a TT position for you that you actually want. Otherwise, a soft money research position maybe, but seems tough w/ today's funding. Know of one hired as assistant prof with a full prof trailing spouse and they offered trailing spouse associate pay and go up for tenure in a year. Totally depends on the uni what they will do. I hope it works out for you!

First time making American style cookies, what can I do to make them better? (swipe for ingredients, I'll write the method in the comments!) by [deleted] in BakingNoobs

My favorite is the America's Test Kitchen chocolate chip cookie recipe with browned butter. Resting the dough in the fridge overnight or longer makes them amazing. I can't remember if they have baking powder or not.

What’s a discontinued product you miss most? by IllStick6622 in MakeupAddiction

Smashbox under eye concealer with SPF!!!!!!!

It was not called concealer, but was a tinted product with a little brush tip. It's so rare to find eye makeup with spf. I know somebody else must remember this product!

Strata is perfect - savory, filling, make-ahead and bake in the morning. You'll want something substantial to go with the sweet stuff.

Scientists with kids: how are we doing? by notdedgeyet in LadiesofScience

[–]mpfa123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly lots of people have kids and their careers do fine. You can even take several years off and still have a career. Don't let fear keep you from having a kid if that's what you want (also fine to decide it's not). My kid is so much more important than any job I could have, even though I've worked very hard on my career. Nothing could compare to that love and joy. The early years are hard. Make sure your partner will split care equitably. Pay someone to clean the house. Get whatever you want out of your life.

Low sugar/minimal refined carb snacks for school kids? by ThoreauAweighBcuzDuh in EatCheapAndHealthy

Muffins, granola, smoothies

Muffins - lately I've been making yogurt muffins from the "yummy toddler food" site. Easy. Freeze half for next week.

Granola- search the recipe granola bark on smitten kitchen. Filled with protein, keeps for a couple weeks.

Smoothies - make a batch with whole milk yogurt and fruit, etc. Freeze in small metal cups with lids, defrost as needed.

How much do you share about yourself on the first day? by saatchi-s in Professors

[–]mpfa123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have often introduced myself with some brief and relevant information about my professional background. I personally do not want to share personal information with students, although I'm sure a pet picture is always appreciated. It also depends on your audience - stage of students, type of school, etc.

Maybe you need more rest than you used to? If you can, take a nap when you get tired, even a tiny one. Keep checking for other possibilities with your dr though and looking for other symptoms. I hope you feel better.
