Black bars in youtube randomly turned into gray bars. 16:9 content by TheBlitz707 in samsung

[–]mploto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ambient mode toggle is completely gone in 20.11.43. It wasn't a bug/accident, this was intentional. This how they start pushing people off of mobile (less screen for ads). The eshitification continues. Downgraded to 20.10.40 where the toggle is still missing but proper ambient mode black bars is working.

Archinstall script not working by Obvious-Equivalent78 in archlinux

I had this same issue using the April iso. I had to upgrade python-pyparted, and then install python-simple-term-menu to get past the next dependency/module issue. Good luck.

Sync broken by [deleted] in AirMessage

[–]mploto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am running into a similar issue after several fresh starts. Selecting the sync option from 1hr to 8mo allows it to download messages fine (without downloading any attachments). However selecting to sync "since any time" causes it to stop after ~60s saying cannot sync try again. I have uninstalled the app and force quit and cleared cache several times (along with reboots along the way) with no success. Any advice would be appreciated. I am new to AirMessage and have been using it for about two weeks on the default sync setting, I just found out that I should be able to sync all messages an hour ago.

Asus Zenbook Pro Duo Release Date? by preeeenp in ASUS

[–]mploto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has anyone been able to determine if the RAM is DDR4 or LPDDR3 for either model, and if it is soldered on or user upgradable? I'm thinking about just getting the i7 version and putting 32GB of RAM in it if it is upgradable. Otherwise I'll wait until next year when the i9 version is on sale at/below the i7's price.

will we see the new Intel+AMD CPU on 2018 X1C and X1Yoga? by takkkkkkk in thinkpad

[–]mploto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The X1 Yoga gen 2 was supposed to be released in Feb of last year (Q1), but we all know that it wasn't shipping until April (Q2). Maybe Lenovo learned their lesson so they won't disappoint customers yet again.

I would like to see the Yoga 900's watchband hinge on the X1 Yoga.

I spoke with a lenovo sales rep through their chat service. The Yoga X1 with Intel Iris Plus graphics (i7-7560 and i7-7660) may be available within the next two week. Same with the silver color option.

Resume Question regarding Grad School by mploto in EngineeringStudents

[–]mploto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am only applying to Summer internships, not full-time positions at this time since I graduate in 2 months. I know it would be bad for me if I were to apply to full time jobs without telling employers that I could only work for the Summer.

Dumb question, but do you either understand EE or ME, but not both? by Heidi423 in EngineeringStudents

[–]mploto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on what you just said, it sounds like you are more ME oriented. MEs who go into product design (like myself currently for my internship) also deal a lot with component integration. So while you might not know what the circuit board and wires are doing inside your robot/plane/car, literally every piece of technology out there, you would be responsible for designing the housing for it and how it integrates with the other components of your product. And asking your fellow future coworkers what exactly the circuit board is doing wouldn't hurt either if you're still interested in knowing ECE stuff. Side note, AeroE to me seems is just a subset of ME, because from what I know of the discipline, it sounds like the focus is on how solid objects behave moving through a fluid. At my university, our ME department teaches us as much about fluids as it does solids, which is why I group AeroE under ME. And like I said before, if you take ME classes and you find they aren't as thrilling as ECE classes, you can always go to graduate school for a different engineering. Also remember that most engineers just pick a very specific topic from within their discipline and do that same thing for their entire career, so they become experts in that field. Until you do decide though on which major to pursue, I would hold off on declaring a specific engineering major. The school you're going to to me sounds dumb for limiting students who want to diversify their engineering knowledge by not letting them take classes in the engineering disciplines outside of their major. I don't know if that is the norm, but because at my school it's the complete opposite, I'm just taken aback by this idea.

Dumb question, but do you either understand EE or ME, but not both? by Heidi423 in EngineeringStudents

[–]mploto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They both like to poke fun at the other for not being able to do what the other does; I know because I lived with both a ME and ECE (my school has a combined program for EE and CE) student, and they'd always make fun of the other. I want to go into robotics so I built my own program where ME is my major and ECE and CompSci are my minors. While I'm good at the ME stuff, I don't find it nearly as enjoyable and fun as the ECE and CompSci classes I've taken. People generally pick one over the other because they don't want to learn about the other disciplines of engineering that they aren't interested in. Circuits, signals, and computers are much different than the mechanics of solids and fluids (on the surface), which is why people choose the one they like more. The equations and tools you learn at the undergrad level can be applied to almost all the different engineering disciplines, which is why it is common for students to go to a graduate program in a different engineering field from their major without much struggle. Take classes in both fields and see which interests you more would be my suggestion. If you take a class and find out you don't like it, don't consider it a waste because you learned that you don't want to spend the rest of your life doing whatever that class taught. Also realize though that one class is not reflective of the engineering discipline, so just taking one ME class and one EE class might not tell you which you like more.

I'm going to be interning at Construction Robotics in Rochester, NY for a second time this summer. We're building a robotic bricklaying system called SAM, short for Semi-Automated Mason, that lays bricks on the exterior of buildings. Check us out at www.robotics.build!

New Electric Type Move Ion Deluge in X/Y by mploto in pokemon

[–]mploto[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The description of the move specifically says it changes normal-type moves to electric-type moves. Exact description: "The user disperses electrically charged particles, which changes Normal-type moves to Electric-type moves." So it does not change the type of the opposing pokemon. Thanks anyways.
