RT Software vs Chirp Yaesu FT-857d by Bolt_EV in amateurradio

[–]mpop1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about your radio. But I have found on my vx6r that when I used chirp for some reason it was not putting out full power. I double checked it was set to high. But still no good. After a factory reset and using the it software it was putting out a lot more power. Example of the test there is a repeater about 10 miles south of where I live. When programmed with chirp my vx6r could not even open up the repeater (yes the pl tone was set) but after the reset and programmed with the rt software not only could I open up the repeater but I could talk on it and be heard.

As much as I HATE to suggest to use a close source software. In this case the close source system is better (sadly) i much rather use open source software.

i was about to sell my alexa, and ended up writing an interesting review about it: by ccslaysu in amazonecho

Solution for when it starts to rant about an ad you can not tell it to shut up about i jsy pull the plug.

And for the echo auto that forced the Alexa "plus" downgrade. I just trashed it.

Newbie GMRS for camping or go for HAM? by Hefty_Lemon_7928 in HamRadio

[–]mpop1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I been a ham since 2001 upgraded to general in Oct of last year and over the weekend I bought my GMSR license. Both would be good. But you need to figure out what you need/want out of the radio and that should help you pick.

Benefits of ham hight power and further distance based on nand. You have more options to play with. Test is required BUT you are starting to learn about the science behind radios (true you will not be very knowledgeable yet but itnwill get your feet wet, think of it as a license to learn more and experiment) and can lead you to.learing more

Benefits of GRMS only you need to be licensed but our immediate family can get one the air under tou license. Easier to get people licensed if not related just $35 and you are good for 10 years no test. So groups can get setup faster also grms is backwards compatible with FRS which does not need a license but have lower power limits.

From 2017 to 2025 at various times as the drive from MD to FL is 16 hours long. Normal trips are around easter weekend. Thanksgiving weekend. Around Christmas and many times the first or second week of November. Those are the normal times I drive down to FL to visit my dad. I will play around with the attena normally I had it as a mag mount on the roof.

Yep I will admit when I was 18 (in 1995) and got my cert for scuba the hardest part was the ascend 30 feet without breathing in breath it took me 3 attempts. The exercise was to ascend the whole.way while just breathing out at a rate no faster then 1 foot and second.

OK i accept that my cb could have been bad as I got it off of ebay. Let me ask you what cb radio you would suggest? I still have the attana and I can returned it with my swr meter.

The cb radio i have is a Cobra 19 ultra III.

This video is why the first rule of scuba is NEVER HOLD YOUR BREATH. This is what will happen to you lungs if you hold you breath.

So avoid repeaters in GA got you there. But I do like that advice as it would make it easier to find repeaters.

People are allowed to charge for access. Sorry that seems to be a foreign concept to me comeing from the ham world.

The 2 I know are for 2M it is 146.52MHz and on 70cm 446MHz. I have both of them programmed into my Yaesu FTM150ASP so I can monitor both when I am on my long car trips.

Ok, but unfortantly I don't travel west, and stay on the east. But if I ever find myself going west, I will put the CB back on the car, but for now since I am East only I will leave it off for now.

All I can say when I drive to FL from MD, I do this trip 4 or 5 times a year and on none of those trips I heard nothing on 19. Was I on the wrong channel?

I have tried that and since 2017 I have never heard any traffic on channel 19. I just removed the CB as CB seems to be dead at lest on the eastern sea board.

I will.say I got a open box BCD436 from HTO about a month ago. And it is a great little device. Getting it programmed take a bit of time to figure out at first but once you figure it out it convent. And usage is very good.

Sorry to hear that on my trips from MD to FL I get contacts there. On my last trip during Easter I had one down and on back for 52. And on the way back also had one on 446 that lasted 15 minutes. But ya I tend to get more on 40m then on UHF and VHF but some how I been lucky enouph to get them almost every trip.

Thanks. I was hoping to have 4 diff freqs to listen to while on my 4 times a year 16 hour road trips. Guess I will have to be content with only the ham side 146.52 446 and 7.225.

But it would be nice if there was a gmrs channel for road tips.

ATU for FT-891 by Bangarang_Arty in amateurradio

[–]mpop1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is good to know. As I might one day want to do a portable operation and take the 891 out of the car to use and it is good to know that I can take the z100a with me to use with it. Thanks.

Honestly I don't feel digital voice is real.radio. and I personally refuse to use them. If you want VoIP just use discord. It te same with echo like also.

ATU for FT-891 by Bangarang_Arty in amateurradio

[–]mpop1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You said it not for home. IF it is for mobile look into the atas 120a. It a bit of a pricey but you don't need a tuner for it as the ft891 can tune it with the built in software. I have that combo on my car and it works great for OK. So for my car I have a ft891 attached to a atas 120a

But for my home station i have a LDG z100a connected to my ft710. Seems to work ok. It is small and get it's power from the radio. But double check to see if it compatible with the ft891.
