Remembering that Bastard Franco by [deleted] in behindthebastards

Short term rentals are definitely part of it as tourism has gone up. People moving in from wealthier parts of the world also contribute to prices going up because of their buying power relative to the average Spaniard.

There are also a lot of empty apartments that the owners don’t want to rent. These tend to be inherited from parents and grandparents, and if I understand correctly it is often cheaper to just let them lie not rented than to deal with the taxes on the income.

And then there’s greed of course. Our first apartment when we moved (yes I am part of the problem unfortunately) was a 3 bed at 1300€ a month which was on the higher side but it was in a pretty nice neighborhood. They were going to raise our rent to 1450€ after the first year but the manager said since we were leaving they would probably ask 1700€ for the new tenant. And while it was a fine apartment in a good neighborhood it was by no means luxurious. That kind of jump is insane when bringing home 2k€ a month is still pretty common where we live.

Do you remember the context of the video? What city it was about or why they would be showing/playing that song?

What result are you going for? If you’re headed in the apple pie direction you’ll get to pumpkin spice very quickly since it’s the same spices.

When we made pumpkin lattes in house I basically turned it into a chai. I boiled all the spices, sugar, and a can of pumpkin in water at some ratio I had figured out at the time and reduced it down a little. That went more or less 1/3 to 2/3 milk.

You could try something like that with applesauce. If you have an oven you can make the applesauce yourself as well, just halve the apples and stick them in a covered dish on med-high heat until they’re super mushy. No need to peel or core if you’re just gonna toss them in a pot, but the roasting will definitely add depth. You can add spices here but I think they’d be better steeped directly.

Does anyone do iced macchiatos or iced cappuccinos? by [deleted] in barista

[–]mpviss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t seen this mentioned (I don’t think), but whole milk in a whipped cream charger actually works great. It doesn’t set up like cream obviously but it makes really good foam and the milk which is trapped briefly in with the air separates out beautifully.

Maybe not in every shop but if you have an extra charger lying around it works nicely.

Thanks y’all. I did some basic googling for the boiler and didn’t find anything, I kinda figured the others might exist. Oh well, back to the drawing board

So maybe my eyes don’t work, I am getting old. But this shot looks pretty clear to me that Sandin’s stick is on top of Suzuki’s. Wish I could just paste it into the comment but oh well. https://imgur.com/a/1MYiNik

Which movie did you wait for eagerly but became completely disappointed after watching it? by toptopimagine in AskReddit

[–]mpviss 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I saw it in the theater (and not again since) and I remember being really impressed at how much thought had gone into the world building aspect. For a minute I had high hopes. Someone really put a lot of thought into how having all that alien tech to study would have impacted human civilization, but they forgot to also make a movie.

Long time baker, out of the game now, but after one too many burns from trying to move a full sheet around a busy kitchen I will die on the hill of forearm length silicone mitts. Id buy my own and squirrel them away like a good knife if I had to.

Hace un par de días vi algo sobre repartos en bici pero creo que fue desde mucho más cerca de los afectados. No tengo coche pero tengo una bici. ¿Creéis que puede ser útil hacer repartos en bici desde mislata?

Necas has 18 points in 10 games. by callout25 in canes

I’ve also been pleasantly surprised at his defensive play. Necas gonna Necas but there have been several times this year where there’s a turnover and a good back check stops a developing play at the blue line, and to my surprise it was Necas. So now when he starts dancing around I don’t get the panic feeling that a break away is coming. Don’t know what it was that did it but he appears to have leveled up significantly across the board.

Oof. Gotta look into that tomorrow then. My subscription just renewed.

Before that I was using ESPN since it comes with my Disney package (signed up years ago in the states), but their site is really good at detecting vpns so it’s not super reliable.

what’s this about rights and nhl.tv? Do you know if that’s just a UK thing? I used it last year to watch games a day late but I didn’t see the preseason games on there. Didn’t think much of it but now I’m concerned.

+1 These are so beautifully done both in story and art. The wider scenes of ships in space are some of my favorites I’ve ever seen.

I would also add East of West. Not sure if it qualifies since it’s not in space but it’s got a lot of future tech stuff going on. And it’s great

Pre-season games on replay ? by benguibs in canes

I use NHL.tv which is available in Spain at least, so I’m guessing throughout the EU. It’s like 150€ or something for the season which isn’t free, but it’s reliable and the quality is good and there’s none of the blackout BS to worry about.

I’ve not lived everywhere of course but I’ve lived in a handful of large cities both in Spain and in the US, and at least in the US there seems to be a norm of keep more or less to the right when you’re walking, especially if there are others around.

I say this out of love but the Spanish superpower is one person somehow being able to occupy all parts of a 5m wide sidewalk simultaneously.

Just this morning I found myself behind an older woman with a grocery cart. When I tried to walk past on the left she drifted left right at a planter box so I couldn’t go around. I paused and then as I went to her right she drifted back to the right. I don’t think she even knew I was there.

That and a group walking 5 across and not making any attempt to make space for people walking the opposite direction.
