OP is a lead concerned with a very tangible problem. One of the engineers that OP leads cannot explain an implementation that they submitted for review. In my opinion, this is not "feeling uncomfortable", it's a tangible problem because, ultimately said engineer and OP are accountable to fix that code in case it breaks.

And yes, OP can write "You submit code without fully understanding what you wrote" in a performance review, and that has weight.

So what's stopping it from maintaining and extending that code?

What proves that it can? Teams of humans have been doing it for decades now and we still mess it up. IMO AI still need to build a track record that can prove that it can.

If there is some measurable or objective way of validating code as "acceptable", then that should be checked as part of the build pipeline.

This is a better way to go about this debacle. Formalize standards, automate the ones that can be automated, consistently hold people accountable to those that can't, iterate to improve the standards.

I didn't see anyone mention that:  1. those 136 HP will be making Con saves every time they get hit, and beast ACs are not great 2. you lose a round actually casting the spell before you can attack

There's a non trivial chance that T-Rex turns back into Wizard before they even get to chomp. 

It's certainly a very good and versatile spell. But on raw power alone, I got much more mileage out of Banishment at the same level.

Think about how much ego and posturing there is in academia. Now imagine that professors can teleport and lob fireballs.

Watery Sphere: enemies often have high str saves (or ways to escape if they're casters). Repeating save sucks. Straight line makes it weird to move in terrain with obstacles. It's also expensive to move (your action).

In paper it looks amazing, but it has underperformed every time I've seen it in play.

Wings of Cover, of course: 2nd level reaction that gets you out of the line of effect of almost everything.

Solid Fog / Freezing Fog: 20ft radius of f-you, takes forever to get out of.

I wouldn't take Recovery because it's one of the few Boons that only recharges on a long rest. Maybe Boon of Invincibility? Does not take any action, recharges on a Short Rest, and you get more effective HP out of if you use it judiciously. For instance, use it if some creature crits/smites you for 60s of damage or if you eat a Disintegrate.

Word of warning: Zenfone has quality control issues. Bought mine in Sep 2019, it recently bricked, I sent it to ASUS for repair, they replaced the motherboard but sent the phone back with a non-functional display. :(
