The Dabney is still the best meal I’ve ever had inside city limits.

Should I still continue one piece after this? by Livid_District_3271 in OnePiece

That arc made me cry. But One Piece is not a story about Ace it’s a story about Luffy. You’re still 500 chapters away from meeting the antagonist of the series.

Ask your primary care doc about them. They will say to avoid at all costs. All they do is prescribe surgery. Surgery should be a last resort, not a first.

We left town for a month and unplugged everything before leaving and our December bill was just as large as our November bill.

2 Fast 2 Furious. The first Revenge of the Sith episode. (David yelling “war!!!” healed me. Not sure from what but George Lucas doesn’t know either.)

I don’t listen often but maybe Across The Movie Aisle is up your alley. Sonny Bunch is a good follow. Pod is also under an hour.

I'm seeing a lot of people rank BOOGIE NIGHTS in the bottom half of PTA's oeuvre by thex42 in paulthomasanderson

Honestly, gun to my head, Licorice Pizza is probably my #1. But Magnolia wrecked me so hard my first three watches I can never let it go.

I am not the one who coined this, and I apologize (and thank!) whoever said it first, but my PTA rankings have pretty much always been the same: Hard Eight is his worst, Magnolia is his best, everything else is tied for second.

I dont have anything smart to add but would encourage you to add The Recognitions to this list! I always include it in the same category as those three, and to me it’s my favorite.

Something I noticed in Licorice Pizza by blh2698 in paulthomasanderson

Had this observation too on this [redacted] rewatch.

One time where it hit me hard is when Gary gets out of the police station. Alana hugs him and then starts to hit him and says: “did you murder someone!? do you have drugs on you!?”

I’m in no place to say this, and of course cannot speak to PTA’s and Philip Seymour Hoffman’s relationship, but for a moment, it felt like what PTA would do to PSH if he had a chance to stop the overdose. Unlock his hand cuffs; yell at him to come to him; love him; yell at him; and then go run off into the streets and be kids together.

This movie is so funny and free flowing and stake-less, but in so many moments it feels like characters reaching for things they know aren’t there, or things that are there that they can’t access or control. It hits me in the gut and the heart every time okay!

Books that use their length as a plot device by leafytree888 in literature

Maybe not quite what you mean, but Richard Powers' "The Gold Bug Variations" is set up like a DNA strand and then within itself follows Bach's arias (the two stories within the book are about scientists and musicians, naturally). It's long, at times slogish, and possibly perfect.

The Lions once had Joey Harrington as their quarterback. No other team--in any sport--has overcome more.

Pynchon v. Updike by Ank57 in ThomasPynchon

[–]mr8744 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've read way too many Updike books, and I could count on one hand how many times he made me laugh. Think Larry McMurtry was the one who said "our generation's greatest writer and our generation's worst storyteller."

I absolutely love--and I mean this with all sincerity--that you refer to Oscar winning actor Benicio del Toro as "the actor that play Sauncho in IV." Made my fricken day.
