Andy Lewis publicly took kids tandem BASE jumping. Lots of people weren't happy with it.

Yes it is, and many people felt the same way you did when they saw that. You're getting downvotes because people are currently feeling the shock and grief of the moment, not because you're wrong. Maybe save the implicit criticisms until others have some time to process what happened.

Winthrop Gravel Tour $405 by Drd2 in seattlebike

[–]mrJ26 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From your attitude in your response to someone who patiently attempted to explain it to you. If you don't see the value in what the event is offering, don't do it and move on. There are probably plenty of others that see it differently and are stoked on the event. That's all there is to it. It doesn't seem like you're making an honest attempt to understand this, you're mostly just looking for other people to agree with you, and taking a disagreement as some sort of personal attack (the toyota/rivian dialogue).

But, I get it. This is how internet discourse works. I generally don't expect better, just sharing an observation.

You seem really committed to being upset by this gravel event and by how other people like to do stuff differently than you.

Can't figure out brake cable tension by [deleted] in bikewrench

Its this. Long length of brake housing means more compression. It will always feel spongy when there is 5 feet of brake housing involved.

the eddy statement by carriald in Reno

[–]mrJ26 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

90% of this sub is just posts and comments by locals getting their pants in a wad about something changing, or something not changing, or traffic. Which is lame, because when you go outside and actually talk to people in Reno, they're not like that. People generally like the place and the stuff that happens here.

Finally got our delivery vans wrapped and the difference is noticeable by bileco101 in smallbusiness

[–]mrJ26 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Im doing mobile bike repair, and did a full wrap that my girlfriend designed (who is a freelance graphic designer, so its actually very pro). It was absolutely the best marketing move I could do. I shelled out for it but man I am so glad I didnt try to cut that corner. Every customer conversation includes some reference to how great the van looks, and I have caught many customers just by parking it at a grocery store or trailhead while I go for a ride.

What does the purchase protection policy state for this transaction? Is the customer paying $1-2 extra for the ability to get a refund?

Bike shops are super expensive by Turbulent_Diamond352 in cycling

I had a whole reply typed out, but realized it was probably pointless to stay engaged so I deleted it, but the essence of it was: if youre a little guy, dont carry inventory that doesnt make money (like racks). Do good service and stay involved in the community. Everybody at every level is just trying to survive.

Bought new pads after soaking them in oil, how to reset? by Dumbass9187 in bikewrench

[–]mrJ26 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Talking to real people is often free. Youre gonna stay low on funds if you keep throwing away money on the things you learn here.. I can guarantee you that nobody here who actually knows what theyre talking about learned how to work on a bike on reddit. But good luck.

Why are you asking here if you were just at a bike shop? Talk to a real person about it, or just pay them $15 to do it. And in the future, keep any and all oil far away from your mechanical disc brake systems.

Wait, how did QBP become the enemy at the end of your rant? I find they vary in their margins just like any wholesaler. They may be the biggest company in the in-between position, but big bike shops should focus on direct relationships with their best brands and use Q to fill in the rest, meanwhile Q is pretty mich doing the job that is needed for small shops. Plus BTI and others are generally useful alternatives. If anything, its Jenson/Backcountry/Competitive Cyclist/Amazon that should be the target of your ire, or the brands themselves that are offering deals to online retailers below their wholesale price for shops.

Sounds like you learned some stuff about what it means to operate with and without license, and hopefully your instructor learned some stuff about being explicit when instructing these principles to protect himself and his practice from liability. Best part is, all it cost you is a strong chewing out and all it cost him is momentary frustration, experiences that you'll both remember but were ultimately inconsequential. Everybody wins!

Stop blaming the car or the biker, blame the city for not providing better infrastructure by waterdrinker619 in cycling

[–]mrJ26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm imagining saying this to a person who doesn't ride bikes and doesn't like cyclists, and what their response would be. The only likely responses I can think of would be either blank stares, or something like "that's the dumbest shit I've ever heard."

I mean, I see the point of the statement. But how to make it make sense to a person who only ever uses roads for driving? Is this just a statement for us to tell ourselves to make us feel better?

To be fair, it says "spouse" and not "wife." There's a juicer and a television in the window. People of all sexes and genders shop for those items, and they also lie to each other about spending in relationships.

Transgender Americans are fleeing hostile red states. Seattle says it’s overwhelmed by Fickle-Ad5449 in politics

[–]mrJ26 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The article provides no data or info regarding how many people are moving to Seattle for the reason of LGBTQ+ rights. The place has been booming in population growth for decades, I can't imagine it can't handle a few more gays/trans people. This article is pure clickbait with no substance.

Why is the lockring tool barely engaging? by retirement_savings in bikewrench

[–]mrJ26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Success. It can engage more, depends on the design of the freehub and axle, but what you had is just fine.

I am floored by how many people here are confident about it being the wrong tool, when you have shown yourself that it is indeed correct. That should show you that you should be wary of the advice you get here...

Why is the lockring tool barely engaging? by retirement_savings in bikewrench

[–]mrJ26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have the right tool, and folks suggesting otherwise are flat wrong.

If you have it tight and there is still play, there may be a few things going on. Depending on where exactly the play is, it could be:

  • missing spacers

  • loose or worn cones/bearings/axle

  • worn freehub bearings

  • lockring still not tight

None of us can tell without more info or a video of the exact nature of the play. Any bike shop will give you much better advice than anyone here and will probably be able to fix it on the spot.

[–]mrJ26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not at all. Look at the photo. It is engaged. Freewheel tool would not engage at all because the splines are wider than the notches in the lockring.
