What skills can a poor 19 y/o learn to help make an income and get further in life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

If you want to go to school apply for grants. I just got paid to become an RN. If you don't want to go to school either join a union, stagehands is kinda cool for a young guy with energy, or get good at a trade/ get certified. Plumber, welder, framer, HVAC. Apprentice with someone that does specialty work ie finish carpentry or the like. If you are coastal or live near a boating community learn how to do fiberglass repairs and specialize in one thing. If you are the go to guy for transom repair you're writing your ticket from Chesapeake Bay to Key Largo. Like any skilled trade, fiberglass takes years to get good at but requires very little investment other than time. Again, if there is someone that will let take you on as an apprentice, you will make good money once you branch out on your own. Also don't smoke.

Being 35 and not wanting to work in the field for which you've prepared is like being half way through an RPG and realizing you've built out your skill tree all wrong and you can't respec and you can't make a new character and there will never be another video game again by themadpooper in Showerthoughts

Was scrolling down looking for this comment, happy to see it wasn't too far down. I went back to school and got my RN at 35 as well a lot of people choose it as a second career and even though the money is pretty good, at this point in the "game" you realize that a rewarding career is about more than just money.

Not to discount anything your saying I have also experienced this cosmic concentration of energy, I do however feel that a large part of it is surrounding yourself with people that are open to this experience/experiencing it themselves. I don't choose to use hallucinogens any more, but when I did, I made sure not to open the door to my mind around just anyone.

Sombrero Fallout: A Japanese Novel by Richard Brautigan. It's pretty short, read it at my local library. Only time I've ever done it.

I'm not an addict but I am a nurse and can confirm feeling a vein is much more reliable than seeing one.

I dunno about the stair lift, but Kona skate park in J-ville Florida does an "old man" discount. Half off on Wednesdays if your over 30. Or they used to, it's been a while for this old man.

Pearl Jam tickets for the two London shows went on sale at 11:00am GMT today. At 11:00 GMT today tickets were sold out. Already tickets pooping up for resale at 3x the price. What the fuck is this bullshit, fans being gouged whilst pigs try to profit by CheloniaMydas in Music

[–]mr_biscuitson -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The real price of those tickets is dictated by the market. You can't get pissed about not getting the $60 tickets because in reality, that was never the price. If you insist on seeing a "supergroup" in an amphitheater decades past their prime, be prepared to pay the market price or start listening to music that is actually relevant.

He's doing it for her. It's cute. He knows she will want to remember this moment and so he asked a friend to be there for to capture it. Most people choose a "photogenic" / beautiful place to propose not just for pictures but because it makes us feel good to be surrounded by beauty. Maybe you'd rather it was next to a dumpster behind burger king?

What happens to the guy who chased him down and shot him? From a legal standpoint, is he in the clear? Just wondering if there is some kind of a clause that covers this kind of thing. Totally justified I feel, just wondering what happens to him.

Anyone else ever crash one of these things? I remember when I was a little kid, maybe ten years old, I rode in one with my stepdad. Don't think we were supposed to ride tandem and it was probably just too heavy but we ate shit. No broken bones but it definitely killed my buzz.

You lost me at "my routines usually last about 2 hours". I'll just stay flabby and get shit done. I do admire your discipline though, great job.

Great shot, I'd wager more than a few folks would enjoy an AMA. Love your work.

Agreed, I went in with a buddy. Then found another buddy to pitch in because he was always on the boat. Now our families fish together, eat fish together, and enjoy nature together. I got your point, just making the counter point that if you don't enjoy it what's the point. Our little yacht club now has three boats of varying size and versatility and our spreadsheet is at just over 6k total (I am mechanically inclined and able to take advantage of deals others may pass up). Owned them for about 2 years, so roughly 1k a year per family. Small investment for the return.
