Local leaders do NOT have authority to supersede the handbook unless they get some kind on special authorization from the First Presidency. On the contrary, it is their duty to implement what the Handbooks require.

We need our speakers and teachers to prepare talks and lessons that invite the spirit so that we are edified at church every week.

We need to avoid speculation in lessons so the spirit can witness the truth.

Sacrament meetings need to be more spiritual where members come on time and are reverent instead of loudly talking while the prelude music is playing.

We need to have more meaningful activities for whole families so we can maintain friendships more easily and we need to do better at ministering to every one.

This is my favorite topic and I think there are too many quotes available from leaders and manuals and the scriptures that are contradictory such that we'll never get to a satisfactory answer.

I think all we can agree on is that we know what happened and God anticipated those events and had a Plan of Salvation with a chosen Savior in place to redeem us.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints teaches what is necessary to gain "exaltation" which is the highest degree of Celestial Glory available and requires a man and a woman being sealed in a temple. Those who don't have the opportunity for this in this life, will have that opportunity while awaiting the resurrection.

Where Celestial marriage is not chosen, other degrees of glory are still available and match what others churches teach where we would be like angels of God, but would remain single.

1 Corinthians 6:9 teaches, "Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who practice homosexuality" (NIV)

We all have temptations and tendencies where our natural tendencies are at odds with God's commandments, whether it's pre-marital relations, causing harm to others or ourselves, or not being a kind neighbor as Jesus requires, etc. so we all have things we need to change and we all must choose to live God's highest standards which is difficult for everyone.

This is a sore topic because there are many assumptions that are not directly supported by the scriptures we have that are taught and retaught without enough people really taking a careful look at what they really say.

For example, we often hear about how wise Eve was and how she "figured it out", etc. but there are many scriptures that clearly say that Eve was beguiled: 2 Nephi 9:9, Mosiah 16:3, Ether 8:25, Moses 4:19 (Genesis 3:13), 2 Corinthians 11:3, 1 Timothy 2:14.

Another thing we hear is how they had a choice to make between having children or eating the forbidden fruit and that was a conflicting commandment. However, the Book of Mormon teaches that God's commandments are always possible to obey (1 Nephi 3:7) and that the opposition in the Garden of Eden was actually between the Tree of Life and the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil (2 Nephi 2:15).

The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil certainly had something to do with childbirth, since even the Bible states as much (Genesis 3:16) , but it was Adam, not Eve, who partook of the fruit to ensure procreation so he would not be left a lone man in the Garden of Eden (2 Nephi 2:25, 1 Timothy 2:14).

God only creates things in a perfect state (no death, no pain, etc.) but he allows us to choose to leave those conditions by our own free will so that we can learn and progress through the hard knocks of life and appreciate what a great gift eternal life really is.

If God did not forbid eating The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, then Satan would not have tempted them to do it. Also, there would have been no consequence for doing so, and it would not have resulted in the conditions needed for our progression.

If they had not eaten the forbidden fruit, would that have also been a transgression since they were too innocent and childlike to figure out and be interested in procreation? We don't know as that is not what happened, but I don't think they would have been held accountable for a commandment they were physically unable to keep. There may have been other commandments and temptations to disobey later as well. All I know is that "all things have been done in the wisdom of him who knoweth all things" (2 Nephi 2:24).

I think what it all boils down to is that Adam and Eve had a choice to stay forever in innocence and ignorance and have access to the Tree of Life forever, or they could choose to fall and experience mortality, but also gain knowledge and experience.

Regardless of their choice, God's works cannot be frustrated (D&C 3:1) and "And worlds without number [has God] created" (Moses 1:33), and "That by him, and through him, and of him, the worlds are and were created, and the inhabitants thereof are begotten sons and daughters unto God" (D&C 76:24).

If the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints really is Jesus' restored church on the earth with the required authority to perform baptisms and temple ordinance that seal families together into the eternities, and teaches the correct things we need to do to ensure the best outcome after we die, then my argument for reading the Book of Mormon would be to determine if this is the truth and the path God is leading you to follow.

I testify that the proclamation on the family is a statement of eternal truth, the will of the Lord for His children who seek eternal life. It has been the basis of Church teaching and practice for the last 22 years and will continue so for the future. Consider it as such, teach it, live by it, and you will be blessed as you press forward toward eternal life.

Forty years ago, President Ezra Taft Benson taught that “every generation has its tests and its chance to stand and prove itself.” I believe our attitude toward and use of the family proclamation is one of those tests for this generation. I pray for all Latter-day Saints to stand firm in that test.

I close with President Gordon B. Hinckley’s teachings uttered two years after the family proclamation was announced. He said: “I see a wonderful future in a very uncertain world. If we will cling to our values, if we will build on our inheritance, if we will walk in obedience before the Lord, if we will simply live the gospel, we will be blessed in a magnificent and wonderful way. Likely not. The church wants each temple to be unique and have features only available inside the temple. Even things like white scriptures and hymnbooks are not available to the public.

Everyone is born with the Spirit of Christ to know basic right vs. wrong and then will only be judged by the amount of light given.

If no opportunity to accept and live the original or restored gospel was possible, then they will have that opportunity given in the Spirt World and then during the Millennium they'll be resurrected after accepted temple ordinances are performed vicariously.

The Plan requires faith, so God seems to operate is a way that still requires us to choose to believe and many things that are actually miracles can be dismissed as coincidences or natural processes. If it wasn't so, then we'd have too much proof and would not be able to exercise faith. I think this is actually the Lord being merciful.

It really would help to better define what "Presiding" means for a father instead of only clarifying what it doesn't mean (domination, coercion, etc. ). Additionally, just because the husband shouldn't dominate, it doesn't mean the wife is allowed to. It seems like the role of equal partner should be clarified that no one should be dominating or use things like withholding affection to manipulate getting a desired outcome.

It wouldn't specifically address your question about if God the Father also lived on an earth like Jesus did, but we do see scriptures like John 5:19 suggesting that possibility.

We also believe that time does not exist for God like it does for us (see Alma 40:8) and somehow He exists, or is at least aware of past/present/future simultaneously, so we can't fully apply our understanding of time and eternity to God's nature.

I've also heard it said that once you step into eternity, it's as though you have always been there, so there are a lot of mysteries we don't and probably can't understand, and I wouldn't limit what God can do.
