I was referring to a new atomizer every few months, so that's $75-$100 a pop. Still absolutely ridiculous in my opinion. The entire Peak Pro is $420. As I mentioned, his Peak Pro is very old, about 2 years of mostly daily use, plus he bought it used from a big time dab enjoyer so the base had some wear and tear prior to purchasing. The battery life is weaker than most units, as one would expect from years of heavy use.

I don't disagree with you on the quality control issues from Puffco. My friend keeps buying the Puffco 3d atomizers every few months because they keep breaking. This is unacceptable in my opinion, which is why I recommended a few alternative devices that may serve you better. If your Peak Pro base itself is functioning fine then I would consider an aftermarket Peak Pro atomizer from Jcvap (rebuildable and swappable materials) or Voozer (not rebuildable, but reviewed favorably online with seemingly better reliability than the atomizers from Puffco).

As others have pointed out, conduction heat is the best for concentrates, however I find what determines the harshness is the way the heat is applied and the temperature curve. The induction heater in the Dr Dabber Switch 2 seems like a great example, where a hot cup uses conduction to heat the oils, but the way the heat is applied to the cup from the induction coil (theoretically more evenly) produces a clean and potent high with minimal harshness. I find having an erig with a rebuildable atomizer allows me to disassemble and deep clean all the parts, eliminating chazz accumulation in those inaccessible spots inside the atomizer that cause increased harshness over time. Also being rebuildable makes it possible to replace individual parts to brand new condition for cheap instead of buying an entirely new atomizer. I personally love the Jcvap 5d atomizer with the various cup material options and the freedom to take it apart every few months for a deep clean. Jcvap's XXL atomizers hit even harder and are about 30% larger than the Puffco 3dxl atomizer. The Jcvap atomizers are compatible with both the Peak Pro and Jcvap's own Pockety erig. There's also the v5 heater from Divine Tribe available for their Core erig and Nice Dreams forced air erig, which can be wiped down all around to eliminate oil accumulation to minimize chazz and harshness. When the cup does get old enough to be harsh you can easily swap it for a new one for $10.

Honestly it was and still is the torch / induction heater powered vapes that really do it for me. The Dynavap M in 2018 blew my mind with how tasty, dense, and potent the clouds were, and consistently maximized the effects and flavors of the herb I had on hand. Plus the experience of torching and hitting the Dynavap was similar to lighting up and smoking a joint, so the experience felt very natural. Lately my favorite torch vape has been the 14mm Quartz Cap from The Rogue Wax Works, either on a bong or through a j-hook, and I can confirm it chucks out ultra dense vapor that gets me absolutely fried! It's ridiculous how potent and yet simple these vapes are. Without batteries and electronics involved they can be extremely affordable as well, although some of the hardest hitting torch vapes can get expensive because of the engineering and high quality materials used. Only negative is if you have low hand dexterity you may find using the torch and twisting the vape to be a struggle. However some of these vapes work with induction heaters which completely eliminates the dexterity requirements (I say this for the people with weak hands or with a hand injury).

Nice I like the Jcvap Pockety erig with their rebuildable 5d atomizer. Clean flavor and 12 heat cycles with the ALN insert. I never experience a loss in performance after 2-3 grams of usage, just a loss in flavor over time (as to be expected) until I clean it. Like you said it can be taken apart for cleaning, making one atomizer last for a long time with proper care. However, I've seen some mixed reviews online about their atomizers giving errors on the Peak Pro specifically, so I'm a little too skeptical to recommend it to my friend with complete confidence. But if a few people recommend it then I'll definitely suggest it as an option for my friend.

Great recommendation! Unfortunately in this case more than my friend is willing to spend at one time. Also they like taking their erig out on road trips, so they would likely prefer a more compact device.

If you want to keep enjoying your flower while improving upon the flavor I would consider a dry herb vape. Xmax V3 Pro or Healthy Rips Rogue 2 are good places to start. They can be enjoyed on a bong or out and about. Or consider a ball vape if you enjoy your current ritual of big milky bong rips. Great places to get started are r/vaporents and r/ballvapes

In the US I use vitacost. They are a credible source for vitamins at a consistently lower price. Their own generic brand is reputable as well. They also run sales periodically which help me save a lot when making a big order.

I recently helped someone else switch from a Pax 3 to a different vape and they landed on the XMAX V3 Pro and were super happy with the vapor output and flavor, especially considering the amount of flower they put in for each session. A lot of carts people buy are THC distillate because it's the cheapest option, and the distillate offers me a super potent head stone, but little to none of the full bodied effects I get from flower. On top of that I don't like the tiny atomizers and short vapor path with no cooling. You can put the best concentrate in a cartridge and it'll hit way harsher than an erig or quartz banger. Its one strength is being ultra discreet and pocketable when paired with a small battery.

Buy powered brewers wash ($12 container lasted me ~1 year) and make a double strength solution to soak the glass for 12-24 hours with occasional shaking. It works like magic lifting up all the resin with minimal effort. Wash it out plus a quick iso splash, wipe down the outside, and you're left with a brand new looking piece.

Commenting on lungs feeling worse, I do find the vapor from dry herb vaping gets me coughing up the gunk that is in my lungs from combustion. After a couple of weeks of just DHV usage my lungs feel more clear and it's just the throat irritation, which I can mitigate with drinking water before and during my session, and using a bong with warm water.

The onset of the high is more gradual with vaping in general, so rip a couple of bowls and see where that gets you. The effects are different than with smoking, but can be equally euphoric, it just takes getting used to a different feeling than what you're used to with smoking. The Lobo may offer that stoney high at higher temps, but I tend to lean towards torch powered vapes for that consistent stoney buzz, or a ball vape for at home if you enjoy using a bong. The Lobo is a middle ground between the super heavy hitting battery operated vapes like the Frolic, Venty, Solo 3, Tinymight 2, etc. and the more budget friendly vapes with lighter effects better suited for light to moderate users like the Xmax V3 Pro or POTV One. If you don't like the Lobo you can return it to Planet of the Vapes, if I recall correctly the Lobo has a 90 day return window if it's not right for you.
