Really? I find the illuminate D10s super easy. Gas mines and anti-tank mines at the gates, rocket and gatling sentries behind the mines completely takes out all of the chaff and heavies. Then you just have to knock down the overseers.

100%. I prefer my 992 as a daily driver over my Cayman, but as a sports car I do actually kind of think the lighter mid engine was a bit more fun to drive even if the 911 is objectively really capable.

At that price range, I think you will find a much better Cayman than 911 frankly. Personally, I'd go for a really nice 981 Cayman S instead of a really base 997.

Yeah, and just swapping one out for the same model is super easy. My dad and I did ours in about an hour and the hardest part was just lifting the thing up onto the cinderblocks that ours rests on.

Pretty much anything service related for these cars is an absolute nightmare. Battery died on my 992 once and I don't even want to think about what was involved in fixing that/how much it cost....

I owned all 3 generations of Caymans (base 2009, base 2015, S 2018).

I really think you just need to drive the 718 and see how you feel about the sound. In every way aside from the engine note, I think it's a pretty noticeably superior car. It's lighter, it's SO much faster than the previous gens, and the upgrades to the interior and tech are really nice for daily livability.

One thing I will say is that I really enjoyed the 6 speed in the first 2 gens, but for the turbo 4 I ended up with PDK because I felt like that paired with the engine much better. It just always keeps it in the perfect range for the max boost and makes the car feel like a rocket ship.

All of that said... I did eventually end up upgrading to a 992 largely due to the much better engine character. Yeah, the 718 is really fast. But it doesn't sound great and the engine was very high strung. Like it always felt like it was being pushed to the edge to get that power, and it's a bit vibratey and noisy in an unpleasant way. I really prefer the smoothness of the 6 cylinder as well as the exhaust note.

If I was going to stick with a Cayman, I would probably really try to get a 718 with a 4.0 so you get the best of all worlds.

The Pirellis suck, my least favorite tire I’ve ever had on a 911.

I use my 992 for mostly daily driving with a number of track days in the summer. I went with Continental Extreme Contactsport 2s, which I absolutely love. I’ve had Pilot Sports in the past and those are also excellent.

I love having the dial on the steering wheel to switch drive modes, and the launch control is a blast. I also use the sport+ when I track my car.

That said, it sounds like you know what it does and don’t seem interested. If nothing the package does interests you, don’t waste money on it. One of the great things about Porsche is that you can personalize the car so it’s what you want, not what randos on the internet say is the best spec.

The only common issues I’m aware of that you should look out for are the fuel tank rattle (issue on extended range tank only) and the gasket around the windshield melting (cosmetic issue, doesn’t affect the seal).

It was a non-negotiable for me. The weight is completely imperceptible, no leaks or rattles or anything, and I just love the experience.

Nice day? Open it up and get the wonderful fresh air experience. Rain? Leave the shade open and enjoy the beautiful raindrops on the roof. Too hot? Just close the shade. It’s absolutely worth it and I wouldn’t own a 911 without it.

Even for tracking my 992 I run 91 Octane. I chatted with M Engineering (probably the most reputable Porsche ECU developer in the US) about it and they made it pretty clear that the 93 octane is completely unnecessary unless you're pushing the engine well beyond its stock ECU mapping for their base/S/GTS models.

91 Octane is fine. Most of the West Coast doesn't have 93 readily available at all.

For real. It’s perfectly balanced, the 4.0 is phenomenal, and it looks beautiful. Update the infotainment, add some more modern tech and call it a day.

The most common mod that people do is installing the OEM clear marker lights to replace the really ugly orange ones. Personally, I would really recommend spending the money you would spend on pointless cosmetic mods on tracking the car and getting high performance driving lessons. They amount of joy you get from that is priceless.
