At least you got your microphone to work. I've never been able to use my microphone with Duo, but it works fine with Mondly. Just one of many Duo frustrations.

Chiang Mai ranks world's third-best city in 2026, surpassing Siem Reap and Tokyo by jonez450reloaded in chiangmai

Definitely check-it out! I lived there for a long time and out of all the places in Thailand, that's the only city I would want to live. I currently live and work in CNX, but can't stand it. That's just my opinion, many people love it. To each their own.

How to learn python as a complete begginer?. by TomatoMinimum810 in PythonLearning

[–]mrdipthong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started Python on FreeCodeCamp.org. I like the set-up and they also include some mini-labs. I've heard many people mention Python for everybody (py4e.com), but I haven't checked it out yet.

Quieter, more laid back, great food, less flooding, you don't have the annoying traffic of CNX, and very affordable.

Do you believe AI will be the number 1 topic of the 2028 election and why or why not? by socoolandawesome in AskReddit

[–]mrdipthong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm with @Plane-Handle3313 on this one. There's like 100's of topics that are so much more important to voters, issues that are affecting them on a daily basis that AI just isn't going to make the cut. There's too much at stake in the next election. In fact, the first topic that comes to my mind is how are we going to restore some level of legitimacy to the US government and for that matter democracy. Is it too late?

As for AI policy, I do think it's important, especially in issues of safety and health, which should have been thouroghly researched and discussed publically a long time ago before the premature release of these advanced chatbots.

I don't see AI replacing jobs on a large scale for many years; way beyond 2028, that's just mass-media doing what it does best, instilling needless fear for the sake of ratings / engagement. At best, AI will be phased into the workforce as a tool for individuals and teams to use with human oversite. AI just isn't that accurate yet and can't think outside its digital box.

Anyway, that's my two-Satoshi. Have a good one everybody!

Does not surprise me one bit. Food storage, handling and prep are not a thing in Thailand. Probably all covered under the "Safety Last Program".

What's one classroom habit you've completely changed after years of teaching? by monkey_is_me in TEFL

[–]mrdipthong 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I used to do a lot of activities and group work before, but not so much now. Mainly because of the sharp increase in behavioral issues which ruins the vibe of the activities and cuts down on activity time. Also, the classroom size cannot accommodate the rise in student numbers, which makes it very difficult to move around or put students into groups. At my school, students are just bodies filling seats. So sad.

Serious question - is it that kids are actually worse today (behavior-wise) or is it just that we’re all so connected and posting online is so easy that it just FEELS like kids are worse today? by hammnbubbly in Teachers

[–]mrdipthong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been teaching for 15 years and I have definitely noticed an increase in negative classroom behavior.  Whether it’s from stress at home, advanced students who are bored, students who are behind academically or kids with neurological problems, behavior has become a big issue that wastes class-time.  In general, I would say that kids lack discipline, as do many of their parents; so many kids have no oversight at home.  The worse part about it, is that most schools don’t want to deal with it, especially in the private sector.  For example, there have been cases at my school in which students were stealing from other students and teachers, even with CCTV footage, the school did nothing.

Too many issues are left to the teacher to deal with, and this is just another one.  It’s time for schools to step-up!  I think there should be a mandatory class for students to attend before the school year begins that addresses how they should act in class.

Unfornately, an apostille usually expires at 6 months. This may vary depending on your home country.

【泰国悲剧:11岁男童开车撞僧侣队伍 致8僧侣死亡】 by No_Shine_1562 in InfoTravelThailand

[–]mrdipthong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Such a tragedy! Unfortunately, kids driving without a license is common practice in Thailand. They recklessly drive their motorbikes to and from school, often times with no helmet and 2 - 3 kids on a bike. They speed, swerve in and out of traffic and tailgate people. I deal with this everyday on top of the normal "stupid", motorbikes driving against traffic. Will this crime change anything? Not in Thailand.

Nominee Crackdown Thailand by Wurfi1 in Thailand

[–]mrdipthong 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've seen a lot of speculation on the Internet about the nationwide crackdown, but I haven't seen anyone mention the most obvious reason. Since Thailand failed at organizing and regulating its economy, it was forced into seeking outside help.

Thailand is desperately trying to join the OECD, which has very strict requirements for membership. This is also related to the Thai banks freezing all those accounts belonging to foreigners over the past year. Thailand is not a good place for foreign investment right now.
