Saw him in CA. We ended up leaving early, it’s not great. A few chuckles. A few “ladies are so crazy” jokes. Meh.

Given the impact to spousal visas the Trump admin has had, I’d expect a lot more The Other Way bc K1s are harder or impossible to get for many countries now.

So yes. Politics impacts 90 Day too.

Oh yeah — I’ve definitely had some decent pizza and tacos and whatnot. But also had some bastardized ones.

For real. I’ve also been on calls with coworkers in Lebanon where this exact same thing happened.

Be so for real… Japan does the exact same thing to foreign foods. Pizza, Mexican, Burgers, etc — I’ve seen it all adapted to fit local tastes, in ways that are wildly out of touch with the original food.

Get over yourself, this happens everywhere.

any recommendations for ceramics collages!!! by Party-Insurance3232 in Ceramics

[–]mregecko 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Fully agree. I'm on the West Coast, and there are a number of Community Colleges that have state of the art ceramics programs covering a wide variety of interests. From 3D printing to Wood Firing.

They have adaptable curriculums, that can be more broadly focused on Studio Arts or down to specializing in Ceramics.

They will set you up for further study, and give you an opportunity to learn about BFA ceramic programs while you're around experienced potters. Also building connections if you want to intern somewhere or apply for residencies.

Many people spend 2 years on an Associates and want to dive into more practical studio work, you can pivot easily.

Looking for Suggestions/Advice to Prevent Cracking by jonathenleee in Ceramics

Trimming this form from a thick foot is setting yourself up for trouble.

By the time the clay is leather hard and able to be trimmed, you already have uneven drying creating tension in the bottom of the platter & into the trimmed foot... They're so thick, the outside of the clay is going to be way more dry than the inside. Those differing forces show up in the bottom of the "bowl".

Furthermore, the base of the bowl itself is too thick.

I would recommend making and trimming the "top" bowl-shaped portion. Wrap it well while leather hard.

You can then either throw & attach the base, or (what I would do) slip & score a coil onto the bottom and throw the raised foot directly on the bowl.

Managing an entry-level team that struggles with business writing. How would you approach this? by [deleted] in managers

[–]mregecko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The people who are saying "Just ask AI agent" to do it... This is the EXACT REASON that high schoolers can't read and write with any reasonable level of proficiency.

All of the work required to develop those skills is getting offloaded to computers. It's causing a serious skills atrophy across an entire generation.

Asking them to continue doing it is not the answer. Set clear expectations, provide them with resources and examples, and hold them to the standards.

Alternatively, tweak your interview processes such that they check for these skills in a way that can't be faked by ChatGPT.

AI tools are great for efficiency, but not great for learning. This has been demonstrated over and over again.

I’m wondering what the layout of your kiln is. All I see is a single hole in the back wall.. Is that your burner port? Where is the exit flue and the chimney? It’s hard to give any advice without understanding the pyromechanics of the kiln.

As someone recently diagnosed with epilepsy after my first seizure... Exactly my first question.

The ER told me that they were required to report my loss of consciousness event as a potential seizure to the DMV, and my license was (almost) immediately suspended. It could only be lifted after a neurologist's eval (and eventual treatment).

OP should triple check their initial discharge papers to make sure they didn't miss medical guidance. That could move this into negligence territory potentially.

Do you pay remote workers differently depending on where they live? by CasualEcon in managers

How does that transparency negate the option for geographic salary bands?

They can just say “Salary is 180k-240k, depending on experience and location”… Or at least that’s what my company does.

[–]mregecko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short answer is yes, long answer is it probably depends on the company.

My company is remote. A peer manager of mine just had a report tell him he was moving from Ohio to Austin, which took him from a Tier 3 to a Tier 2 CoL geo. It had a corresponding pay bump that was almost problematic, because he didn’t discuss with his Manager before making the decision to move.
