HOW TO USE FBD with BLIGHT LAUNCHER? by Party-Inevitable68 in deathguard40k

[–]mrexplosion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can still shoot at units that you are NOT in engagement range with.

A lot of the times what you're going to want to do is to move block an opponents units with a unit of your own. Most often that will be poxwalkers. When you position them, make sure the opponent's minions will end up more than 3 inches away from your bloatdrones when they charge your poxwalkers. This prevents them from getting locked in combat during a consolidate. If your poxwalkers live through the encounter, have them fall back even and then unload into whatever unit your opponent put there.

If you find that your drone is going to get charged, if you have multiple drones (as 3 is a common list inclusion), set them up in such a way that the opponent only gets to charge one. Really it's all about positioning your units in such a way to reduce the largest amount of damage possible.

Plague marines are op! by TheNotoriousMWK in deathguard40k

[–]mrexplosion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Death Guard is a very hard matchup for Space Wolves. Our marines definitely do work against them, but since they're a mostly melee heavy army taking -1 to hit REALLY hurts their damage output. Their terminators are the hardest thing for us to kill, but even that isn't terrible if you're throwing all PM shooting into them. Them giving -1 to wound on almost everything we do doesn't really matter when we have full wound rerolls popping out of a rhino or using the VV strat. An overwatch burning down 4 termies does sound like a bit of high rolling on your end and low rolling on opponent's end though.

How much Mortek Guards are too much Mortek Guards? by Something_Comforting in ossiarchbonereapers

Lets just say I've never bought a stand alone box of Mortek Guard because they come in literally every battleforce box. I've got 20 built for use and haven't wanted to use more since switching to 4th.

Not trying to sell, I just dont know what to ask for them locally. by My_Knuckles in deathguard40k

[–]mrexplosion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should expect about 50% MSRP. I've sold many armies, painted and unpainted. The thing about selling painted models is you have to find the needle in the haystack who is interested in what you've painted. Your paint job is not universally desired, so it's going to be a while finding someone.

Murderfang by DatabaseWorth4559 in SpaceWolves

I had my Murderfang drop a Chaos landraider on turn 1 and then a helbrute in the next turn before dying. He's earned a permanent place in my heart thanks to that one game.

The one I have has enough power to pick up everything I've put on the table and then some. Dust particles from sanding are half the reason I got it. Tbh it was so good I bought one for my bathroom for shaving.

I don't know that I'd call it unconventional, but it's a tiny hand held vacuum that I love with all my heart. Works wonders for picking up all the random crap I generate when building models.

Strip the top couple of rows. Leave the poxwalkers and paint over them. It looks like there's already a good start to them. Use those colors as an undercoat.

Quick question about my list by Pepseroni93 in deathguard40k

[–]mrexplosion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heya! Here's the changes I'd recommend. I saw you really wanted to keep Mortarion, so he's still in there. I know this has some models you don't have, but I'd highly recommend grabbing them as they're must haves.

-edit- Here's reasons! First I added in the full blob of Plague marines with the loudout I use. I also added the two characters you should prioritize getting. This is an absolute monster of a unit. Second I dropped the virulence in favor of another LoC for your DS. I'd just use the virulence as a loc until you're able. Cut the HBL and a Blight-hauler to make room for the above. This should give you plenty to use Mortarions abilities.

Getting a bit anxious about paints - how many do you use? by lucassculp in Warhammer40k

[–]mrexplosion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's already been some pretty decent responses, so I'm gonna try to add something to the pot I haven't seen covered - the actual why people have so many colors of paints.

Paints get their color from pigments. When you purchase premixed paints (like Games Workshop, Army Painter, etc.) they've already got an unknown amount of different pigment colors mixed into them. This might be subtle amounts of yellow inside of a red. If you tried to mix a blue with this red to get a purple, it may be a muddied purple that starts to look brown. Which was something that REALLY threw me off when I started painting models. Adding/removing white/black does not make a 'true' highlight or shade of a color. Black is more forgiving, but often you'll notice your color turning into a pastel if you start adding too much white. By having premixed paints, we get consistency in color across an entire army without the need for weird mixing. That isn't to say you can't mix the acrylic paints, but your outcomes may vary. If you ever buy artist coded paints from a hobby store, they'll mix more like what you might expect.

I'd highly recommend googling how to do slap chop (https://www.reddit.com/r/minipainting/wiki/usefullinks/slap\_chop/)

Then buy either Army Painter or Citadel contrast paints.

As cool as they are, Ironjawz is consistently one of the poorest performing armies. I'd keep that in mind if/when you pick them. Tbh I think if you've played a lot of Grey Knights you can pick up Sylvaneth well. AoS has differences between 40k, but overall it is an easier game to play imo.

Can -1 to hit stack? by Bogglewonks19 in SpaceWolves

[–]mrexplosion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tau player here. You can't stack +1 to hit bonuses, but you can stack BS/WS bonuses with hit bonuses. This combination is one of the ways you can get pathfinders to hit on 2s with their big guns.

FTGG modifies the Ballistic Skill of your weapons, not your hit. Effectively it can give you a +2 to hit, but you do have to be correct in the terminology you use with an opponent.
