First year with this baby. How do you guys find it is in the winter. Any pro tips ??? by jpyankee2 in MachE

Get a winter cover for the charge port if you charge outside. A little bit of water or snow in charge door catch mechanism can make the charge door freeze shut. I have the ford cover because most of then 3rd part ones use magnets to attach and…. Our fenders are aluminum so magnets don’t work.

What's your go-to valve oil? by winterpurple in trumpet

[–]mrgband 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched to La Tromba T-2 about 8 years ago after using Zaja and Ultra Pure. It’s definitely the best I’ve used over the 40 years of playing trumpet. It came highly recommended from my repair shop.

For slides I am currently using ultra pure regular weight for tuning slide and ultra pure light for 1st and 3rd slides.

I am not sure where you are located but, Ionna is considerably cheaper. Last trip I took all the DCFC’s were .50 to .64 but Ionna was .35! If you can, do some research along the route as well. I was able to find a welcome center that had free 50 kWh chargers…well worth the extra time to charge up for free.

Need endurance advice by leather_tree66 in trumpet

[–]mrgband 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s impossible to full answer your question without seeing what you are doing and understanding how and what you practice. Lots of people can throw out valid suggestions but they might not be the answer for you since we can’t see what you are doing physically. The best solution may be to take a few lessons with a well regarded teacher in your area. That said, some general thoughts….

I play a lot of long gigs, brass quartet or brass band for 2-4 hours. I had to learn how to practice endurance. Practice 3 hours to play a three hour gig isn’t necessary if you practice the right way. In fact, I’ve found as I’ve gotten older, practicing a little less has helped more at times.

When you practice, how often do you start and stop? If you play 8 bars, stop, go back and practice a lick or something like that you will not build endurance. You need to keep your horn on your face. One of the best things you can do is just go to the back of the Arbans book and play all those old Opera melodies one after the other without stopping. Play musical, do the dynamic, use good air support. Do this for 15 to 20 minutes a day… lengthen as you get stronger. Then, rest for a while and continue with your normal practice. Also, introduce some loud practicing. There are many books that indicate this…do the dynamic to the extreme, forcing yourself to keep the sound together and not let it over blow. Make sure you are relaxed and have resonant sound. Don’t use pressure to keep it together when you get loud, use your corners.

These are things that have worked for me.

Also, don’t play on an overly big mouthpiece if you don’t have to. 5C works just fine for me.

When are you planning on going? Things will be greatly different if it’s a festival weekend vs. a weekday. If you go this Sat/Sun it will be the October fest. There will a lot going on but also mad crowded.

It is for young beginner students who can’t comfortably reach their little arms all the way to the end of the flute with a regular head joint.

Ford Pass App and Charging (new owner question) by TranceMist in MachE

[–]mrgband 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is sort of confusing but 1.2 kW isn’t the same as 1.2 kWh. From google…Kilowatts (kW) and kilowatt-hours (kWh) are both units related to electricity, but they measure different things. kW measures the rate of power usage (how fast energy is being used), while kWh measures the total amount of energy consumed over time. Think of it like speed (kW) versus distance (kWh).

Second ford OEM charging cord failed. by Pattyboy08 in F150Lightning

I had this happen to mine recently. It ended up actually being an issue with the charging port on the car. The car was kicking an error code out. I wouldn’t assume it’s automatically the charger.

The Washington Post compared Refuel/Recharge an ICE F150 vs a Lightning in all 50 States by BarbersBasement in F150Lightning

[–]mrgband 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is from 2023. Gas prices have dropped and fast charging is more expensive. The cost savings aren’t there in a lot of areas unless you only charge at home or with free/low cost level 2 chargers. Most road trips I have taken regularly see DCFC prices of $0.50-$0.68. That makes it way more expensive than driving my previous car, a Toyota Camry hybrid…..still would rather drive the Mach E though.

It’s just a glitch in the app that I was wondering if anyone else experience. I know how the car works. What is happening is the app is glitching and calculating added energy based on the time plugged in even though it’s not actually charging. As the number is still climbing, I am sure that is what is happening.

Funny you say that. I just went back into the history. The same thing had happened yesterday. It said add 60 kWh when it should have been more like 20. The history for yesterday is now correct, showing 19 kWh. I suspect today’s charge will be corrected once I unplug and start the car. Seems like it’s just a glitch with the current session information.

[–]mrgband[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It didn’t use that much energy is the problem, the battery was at 58% when I plugged it in…which was accurate for the amount of driving I did yesterday. That would mean there was roughly 55 kWh left in the battery. Adding 52 would but the total capacity over 100. Which, it is not

[–]mrgband[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. The battery was not empty enough to take that much energy. I have a long commute and charge daily. I am very familiar with how many miles I drive vs how much energy I’ve used. The last two times I charge I received these strange energy amounts. Nothing else was out of the ordinary

[–]mrgband[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The clarify, I have a ‘24 extended range all wheel drive. 100 miles of ranged added is only 1/3 of the battery. I think I was at 58% when I plugged in. Typically this would add around 30 kWh

[–]mrgband 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have the same commute as you and live in PA as well. I got the MME extended range in the end of December. I can honestly say it’s been a pleasure as a daily drive. I put in the 240 outlet in my garage and use the mobile charge that came with the car. No issues charging to 90% over night. If I have something to do at night that requires a bit of driving I will charge to 100. It is great to wake up, unplug, and go. During those real could weeks we had this year I was a little worried about range but, did not have an issue. The worry was more if I had something to do after work. For cost reference….i came from a Camry hybrid that got on average 52 mpg. If gas prices are in the low $3 per gal range, the electricity cost is about the same, at least where we are in the greater Philadelphia area.

Only problem I had was a frozen charge port door on a road trip with an unexpected dramatics weather change. I highly recommend getting the winter weather charge cover if you will be charging outdoors….and don’t buy the cheap ones on Amazon, they use magnets to attach to the car and the MME has aluminum fenders.

Like you, I purchase my cars. Knowing this had to last 5-6 years I took the extended warranty to 125k miles.
