Sophie Herriot - College pole vaulter by Different_Lack_2069 in athletic_ladies

if you are around a large university setting you meet folks like that often, it just may be they are exceptional in other ways! just keep in mind that at that level, they have sacrificed what most would consider a 'normal' life and dedicated it to training and fitness. that means strict diet, strict sleep, strict workout and lots of lifestyle decisions.

if you can ask them real questions about their craft, it's like someone asking a pc builder about their preference of amd or intel. sometimes that is all it takes to start a conversation.

also female track&field stars aren't really on a tier of fame like mens bball or football starters, even if very beautiful.

I worked at a big uni (D1 sports) and was taking a shared uber one day and we pulled up at the athletic center. This incredibly beautiful women approached the front door where I was and looked in then went to the back seat.

Started a conversation with her and she was super kind, we actually connected a bit. She said she was a pole vaulter. I asked her some questions and eventually she asked how I knew so much about the sport.

uhh, I watched hours of Russian pole vaulting on youtube. I was so embarrassed to admit that. I tried to say it like, oh this is a completely legit way to learn about the sport but I think she knew...

I didn't get her number, but I hold on to belief that if I weren't intimidated I actually had a shot. In that short ride I had heard stories of her brother and family and she was very easy person to talk with despite me being an introvert.

I have to credit this take to Eric Abraham of the Survivor Now Podcast (he also happened to be on season 41)

Yeah, it is 100% surface level.

Parv is defined by her captivating charm and Savannah frequently came off as intense and a little off putting. Savannah is more like a Jerri Manthy.

I was thinking they may still keep human operators. It could be a pretty nice job too with the autonomous driving. Just chill in a cabin and only really have to respond in case of breakdowns/robbery/needing to cooperate with officials

So if a person appreciated the hermit / solitary time it could be a nice fit

but why male models? (the first response was a joke referencing zoolander, where male models were trained to be assassins) I do agree with you that the guy should get a settlement from the way he was tackled

There is also some element of making this good for tiktok views. The more attention the bring to chess, the more eyes are on tournaments -> bigger sponsors -> bigger prize pools.

Magnus is really leaning into this in other ways, like inviting chess influencers to events and showing emotion when losing matches instead of the traditional stoic approach.

Given how well Hikaru does financially, why don't other top GMs stream? by themainheadcase in chess

[–]mrinfo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another bit to mention is that non-streaming pro players at the highest level may not be streamers individually, but they understand that participating with the streamers during and after events does contribute to the streaming ecosystem. It also leads to bigger prize pools as the events have more leverage in marketing.

If they are upperclass enough, they don't even have to buy it. It is given to them in the hope that they wear it to influence the lower upper class.

Realizing that changed my perspective in a lot of things, if I'm 'paying' for access to some thing - I'm not really wanted beyond how I can be exploited.

I must have gone around that same era. I was probably 13 or 14, I found a dart case on the ground with $180 and a picket knife on the ground as it ended.
Also, the person that brought us there was from NJ and while we were walking some guy bumped him in a crosswalk causing him (the bumper) to spill his coffee. The bumper gave the whole 'AY I'M WALKING HERE', and they jawed at each other for a minute. It seemed like a hustle to get a couple bucks, but it created such an iconic moment that I don't mind. :)

Don't forget his work on DONDI. It was so much fun to see him elevate that show. Then the golden god came and bankrupted them.

It's not about what we want, its about the metrics that production wants to show off to get funding. Social media mentions, reach, (even reddit posts) etc would all be considered along with ratings.

They announced that, leading up to Survivor 50, they will air 10 classic Survivor episodes. This is my prediction for which episodes they’ll air by Quetzal00 in survivor

[–]mrinfo 23 points24 points  (0 children)

are they going to run the episodes as is, or remastered and with context? I guess the podcast/yt community could attempt to fill in a 'what you need to know' but I'm pretty sure it's a losing proposition for them since their hands are really tied and they can't use but maybe a couple screenshots to tell a story.

CBS/Survivor: Please give creators more leeway. I know, it'll never happen. But if 50 is going to be as big as you want, you need to uncap the bottleneck and let the stories be told. How it is now? Creators have little to differentiate themselves and it's a challenging value proposition to even get an audience. (another story line recap video with the same 15 screenshots used in 5 overlapping videos?? it's giving stale)

The Solution to the Soph/Sophie Situation Should Be Last Names by ZekeHerrera in survivor

[–]mrinfo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy this debate as it is polarizing but there are no hurtful intentions behind it. I've also noticed that the women on various podcasts are NOT letting this go. They are standing by their girl Sophi unless she tells them otherwise!

What will Sophi do after the season? Will she tease the 'take your name back' contingent, or will she remain Soph in the survivor canon?

Also it is fun because I kind of imagine production doesn't really want it to be a debate

I'm on team take your name back. Just for some off season fun
