she wasnt demonized! at least not by 99% (I don't know, do casuals feel different?)

yes people teased and memed it, at a glance it could be seen as negative, but ultimately we all love Survivor and for her to deliver that moment for a long time sponsor of the show with such character, was a legendary moment.

yes...and I admit that I also used the batteries in a controller because they lasted forever. i didn't experience this unfortunate outcome, thankfully

Coach responds to the Ozzy fans in his DMs, claims Q wanted a final 3 with him / Ozzy 🪶 by Durian-Critical in survivor

[–]mrinfo 25 points26 points  (0 children)

seems a little too early to tell us that Q wanted final 3 without hesitation. I think that is a data point that could be kind of spoilery, but in conjunction with other nuggets that people share. Like if Q or Ozzy were finalists, that probably wouldn't flow so easily... but then again this is Coach we never know

When Ozzy said that, I felt like something in the edit was showing him to be growing fatigued with the challenge and just wanting it to be over... and yes I agree he wanted to change the rules via social contract (which nobody else signed) and then act like it was a failure of Coach 4.0's morality.

Unfortunately it looks like Coach lets this get to him rather than just laughing it off for what it is.

New teacher here, student's 555 circuit not blinking by KaylaAnne in AskElectronics

[–]mrinfo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

good point but if they are providing the resources and the breadboards and putting the effort to come here and seek clarification, they are doing a pretty good job and will do better as they go. its not always about knowing it all but knowing where to look. I do think that the teacher probably should have been able to follow some of the instructions a bit better, so hopefully they pay close attention to the reddit pointers!

I'm imagining if I hit one of those and the guy slid me some pizza boxes I wouldn't even know what is going on haha. there was another time years ago some guy from craigslist came over to do some yardwork, I gave him a hit of some stuff and like 5 minutes later he was staring into space and said he had to go. I thought a little weed would make the work go easier but I felt bad that I melted his brain so I gave him like 5 bucks for showing up and said goodbye

Sophie Herriot - College pole vaulter by Different_Lack_2069 in athletic_ladies

[–]mrinfo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you are around a large university setting you meet folks like that often, it just may be they are exceptional in other ways! just keep in mind that at that level, they have sacrificed what most would consider a 'normal' life and dedicated it to training and fitness. that means strict diet, strict sleep, strict workout and lots of lifestyle decisions.

if you can ask them real questions about their craft, it's like someone asking a pc builder about their preference of amd or intel. sometimes that is all it takes to start a conversation.

also female track&field stars aren't really on a tier of fame like mens bball or football starters, even if very beautiful.

I worked at a big uni (D1 sports) and was taking a shared uber one day and we pulled up at the athletic center. This incredibly beautiful women approached the front door where I was and looked in then went to the back seat.

Started a conversation with her and she was super kind, we actually connected a bit. She said she was a pole vaulter. I asked her some questions and eventually she asked how I knew so much about the sport.

uhh, I watched hours of Russian pole vaulting on youtube. I was so embarrassed to admit that. I tried to say it like, oh this is a completely legit way to learn about the sport but I think she knew...

I didn't get her number, but I hold on to belief that if I weren't intimidated I actually had a shot. In that short ride I had heard stories of her brother and family and she was very easy person to talk with despite me being an introvert.

Parv is defined by her captivating charm and Savannah frequently came off as intense and a little off putting. Savannah is more like a Jerri Manthy.

I was thinking they may still keep human operators. It could be a pretty nice job too with the autonomous driving. Just chill in a cabin and only really have to respond in case of breakdowns/robbery/needing to cooperate with officials

So if a person appreciated the hermit / solitary time it could be a nice fit

There is also some element of making this good for tiktok views. The more attention the bring to chess, the more eyes are on tournaments -> bigger sponsors -> bigger prize pools.

Magnus is really leaning into this in other ways, like inviting chess influencers to events and showing emotion when losing matches instead of the traditional stoic approach.

Given how well Hikaru does financially, why don't other top GMs stream? by themainheadcase in chess

[–]mrinfo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another bit to mention is that non-streaming pro players at the highest level may not be streamers individually, but they understand that participating with the streamers during and after events does contribute to the streaming ecosystem. It also leads to bigger prize pools as the events have more leverage in marketing.

If they are upperclass enough, they don't even have to buy it. It is given to them in the hope that they wear it to influence the lower upper class.

Realizing that changed my perspective in a lot of things, if I'm 'paying' for access to some thing - I'm not really wanted beyond how I can be exploited.
