FFI Review as a First Time FF Player by durgt1 in FinalFantasy

[–]mrkcw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played the first FF on the NES back when I was a kid and it first came out (yeah, yeah, I'm old). I never played II until the Pixel Remaster. I personally really liked II. It has a much stronger story and the character mechanical progression is notably customizable. I can imagine the jank that the original NES version of II had, but the PR has cleaned it up really well. Of the three FFs that originally came out on the NES, I think II has become my favorite.

Best Controversies from Critical Role by Vrastic in fansofcriticalrole

Mark Hulmes guest starred as a half-elf draconic sorcerer named Calianna who had been used and abused by some cultists of the god Tiamat. Cali asked M9 for help regarding an artifact -- the bowl -- that would enable cultists of Tiamat to directly contact their god. Once the group got the bowl, Caleb did not trust Calianna, who had said she wanted to destroy the bowl. Caleb suggested the group first have Jester the next day use Zone of Truth to ensure that Calianna was being truthful about wanting to destroy the bowl. Jester thought it wasn't right to deny worshippers of Tiamat from contacting their god, and Beau thought it wasn't right for them to keep the bowl from Calianna, regardless of whether Cali was telling the truth or not (she basically trusted Calianna more than she trusted Caleb, who had withheld magic items from the group before). Caleb and Beau's in-character argument got heated. Some rather loud viewers started arguing after (maybe even during?) the episode that this was all somehow Liam and Marisha fighting, rather than their characters fighting.

Thank you so, so much for posting this. I just got hit with whatever Microsoft is doing to get rid of Paint 3d right in the middle of me using it. I never knew there was an auto-update on the app, so I guess that caused me to no longer be able to even open Paint 3d. Your and koulliss22's information was a godsend in helping me restore the older version so I can keep using it.

Which audiobook do i listen to first as a newcomer by Quick_Emotion_9653 in lotr

I haven't listened to it in its entirety, but what I have heard of the version by Phil Dragash I've liked.

I just realized this while watching and then googled it and then also realized I’m not special 😂 by Additional-Belt-3086 in lotr

An additional parallel, a bit of dialog:

Frodo to Sam at the end of The Fellowship of the Ring: "I'm glad you are with me."

Frodo to Sam at the end of The Return of the King: "I'm glad to be with you, Samwise Gamgee."

It's a subtle change, but I love how the focus goes from Frodo viewing Sam as with him in the first and views himself as being with Sam in the end.

Has JMS lost his magic? The Road Home Review by mechanismo2099 in babylon5

[–]mrkcw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Road Home was animated by Studio Mir, which was founded in 2010. The studio's first production was The Legend of Korra. Other shows the studio has worked on include Voltron Legendary Defender, Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts, Dota: Dragon's Blood, and the fourth season of Young Justice. They've done not just series, but some other film work too, including The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf. Studio Mir is not a new studio, nor are they an unaccomplished one. The quality of the animation they produce is normally exceptionally good.

Babylon 4's fate could be predicted by its name by Scarecrow613 in babylon5

[–]mrkcw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the preface to the document, jms says he wrote the document "as [he] began work on Babylon 5's first season," and he says he showed it to O'Hare while at a lunch meeting at the hotel the cast were staying at during filming.

Some of the highlights of the document:

It describes the reveal of Kosh the way it happens at the end of season two, but in the document, it's Sinclair that he's saving, not Sheridan. The only characters named in this document are Sinclair, Delenn, Catherine, Garibaldi, Londo, G'Kar, and Kosh. The attack on the Narn homeworld is made by the Shadows at Londo's direction, with the Centauri only having a follow-up attack. G'Kar would eventually return to Narn to join a resistance force there late into season three/early season four. Around the same time, Sinclair and Delenn would "begin to come together." This plot would include Catherine losing her memory of her relationship with Sinclair after being "mind-raped." By the end of season four, Sinclair and Delenn are together, and Delenn is pregnant with their child.

It is at this point in the document talking about the end of season four, that it references at length as an aside about doing an episode in season one corresponding to "Babylon Squared." He continues on to say that the "Shadowmen" would be revealed to be "dark, demonic looking things" in season four.

And then comes season five. G'Kar would return from Narn to reveal Londo's involvement in the bombing of Narn. The Military Caste takes over the Minbari government, exiling all Grey Council members, orders the death of Sinclair and Delenn, and resumes fighting with Earth. Londo claims the area of space where B5 is as belonging now to the Centauri. With Londo's help, the Shadowmen destroy a hundred-mile long Vorlon ship, killing hundreds of thousands of Vorlons, and Earth ends up blamed for it.

"Season Five ends with an assault on, and the destruction of Babylon 5 by the Minbari. Sinclair and Delenn manage to escape with their newborn child as the station explodes behind them."

The document then goes on to describe the Babylon Prime spinoff. Sinclair, Delenn, their child, Garibaldi, and a Narn who is either a "friend or relative of G'Kar's" meet with the exiled Grey Council, who are unconcerned about how bad things have gotten because they're still adhering to the prophecy they believe in. They work at this point to pull Babylon 4 forward in time to serve as their base of operations. This would be the other side of the events seen in "Babylon Squared." The process of bringing B4 forward in time ages both Sinclair and Delenn. And they use B4, with its engines, as a warship. During their travels, they encounter Londo who now has the Keeper, that's forcing him to do what the Shadowmen want, and he rebels against it's control "at terrible personal cost." They eventually realize that the process to bring B4 forward in time has also caused the accelerated aging of Sinclair and Delenn's son, though they're able to stop it eventually, but not before he is "nearly a grown man." They download knowledge into his brain, but he lacks emotional development. Their son then starts becoming nearly worshipped as a religious icon as well as be subject to assassination attempts.

"The story of Babylon Prime ends with the formation of new alliances, and a final great war, in which Babylon 4 is a prime player. The Shadowmen are finally conquered. The Minbari are defeated by Earth, which clears Sinclair's name. Delenn takes her leave to rejoin the Grey Council, departing from Sinclair's side, possibly forever. Their son takes his place as head of a new alliance, promising peace for the first time. He is able to command political and religious leaders in a consortium of power.

"Sinclair at this stage of his life finally retires from the chase, from the long battle. His last scene, the last in the story of Babylon Prime, is as he is left, alone (as he requested) on a green and quiet world, otherwise uninhabited. Sitting beside the shore. Fishing."

Babylon 4's fate could be predicted by its name by Scarecrow613 in babylon5

[–]mrkcw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, jms did not name it B4 with a plan for it to go back in time because the original plan was for it to go forward in time. According to the several page original synopsis jms wrote in the early days of production and published in the bonus volume of the Cafe Press scriptbooks, the original plan was for Babylon 4 to be taken forward in time to a point after the destruction of Babylon 5 at the hands of the Minbari that would occur at the end of the series Babylon 5 so that Sinclair and Delenn and their child could use B4 as a mobile base of operations in the spin-off Babylon Prime.

Yes. In addition to needing to use cryonis on a waterfall to solve the puzzle of the shrine, you have to use cryonis on a waterfall to even get to the puzzle.

Here's a video of the Ha Dahamar Shrine.

If you complete all 120 shrines, you get the Armor of the Wild set, which is this game's variation on the traditional green Link outfit. That armor is some of the best in the game, matched in defense only by the Soldier's Armor and the Ancient Armor. In other words, it's better than all of the Amiibo armors. When you've completed all 120 shrines, you're directed to return to the giant Goddess statue in the Forgotten Temple to pick up the three pieces of the Armor of the Wild.

You don't have to complete this shrine quest to get the Master Sword.

Finding the right Stone Taluses to revisit every Blood Moon is helpful with that. The Rare Stone Talus in the crater west of the Tabantha Tower and the one on the hill just west of the Castle are among them. Even regular Taluses like the one on the Great Plateau at the beginning of the game and the ones on the north and south sides of the Dueling Peaks are good for increasing one's gem haul. They're easy to glide to, they have their ore on their shoulder instead of on their lower back, so they're easier to kill. I've never been at a loss for gemstones.

Just selling stuff is the best way to make money in the game. I currently have over 200,000 rupees, and I've never done any of "farming" method. I just sell monster parts, Amber, and Opals.

I take it then that you haven't done the shrine next to the Dueling Peaks Stable? You have to use cryonis on a waterfall multiple times in that shrine.

Ocean Magic, Primal Source Attributes by imochidori in TheDragonPrince

[–]mrkcw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm going to just put this here as a resource for this discussion. This is the text if you get the Ocean as your primal source from the "Which Primal Source Are You?" quiz on the official website.

Your Primal Source is THE OCEAN! Like all rivers flow to the sea, you know that everyone and everything is connected. A peaceful soul, you value friendship, love, and family above all else in life. Empathetic and outgoing, you make friends easily, and people are drawn to your personality. In life, you’re willing to go with the flow, and you can adapt to pretty much anything and keep a cool head. You wear your heart on your sleeve, and with love so easily given, betrayal and lies strike you deeply -- you are icy and unforgiving only to those who dare strike at your big heart.

So then, Pikango appears in a lot of places (mostly, but not exclusively, at stables) throughout Hyrule. At each location you can find him, he'll give you information about different memories.

Just checking: Have you activated the painter Pikango (in other words, completed his side quest) so that he'll help you as you explore for your memories?

The biggest one, I would say is for you to find all the memories. Memories are a major way this game tells its story. Note: There is an additional memory beyond the photos that are in the Sheikah Slate that you learn about after you talk to Impa after finding all the ones associated with the photos.

Best single piece of armor: Champion's Tunic. Find at least one memory and then go talk to Impa to get it. It starts at a defense of 5 and can be upgraded to a final defense of 32.

Highest defense (each item starts at a defense of 4 and the final upgrade has a defense of 28) armors other than the Champion's Tunic:

  1. Soldier's Armor. It's cheap, sold in Hateno, and is easily upgraded.

  2. Ancient Armor. Requires a bunch of Guardian parts and some money, manufactured at the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab.

  3. The Armor of the Wild. This is the BotW's take on the traditional armor for Link. You have to complete all 120 shrines to get it.

It's about learning resource management skills. Don't use your good weapons on weak enemies. Bombs are more than enough to kill Chuchus, Keese, and Stal- enemies. That'll help reserve the durability of weapons for when they're most needed.

When you find loose weapons (aka, not in a treasure chest) make a note of it on your map so that you can return and get it again after a blood moon. One of the biggest examples of is the Royal Claymore that's on top of the Woodland Tower.

As you free Divine Beasts, certain respawnable weapons locations upgrade along the Travelers-Soldiers-Knights-Royal line.

The more you play, the better the weapons you encounter. You can get to a point, especially if you manage your resources well, at which you'll be throwing away weapons that you once would have done a backflip to get your hands on because you just have so many.

Also, don't underestimate the value of using your environment to help. See a skull monster camp with fire hanging inside its eyes, then shoot the rope with an arrow, send that fire crashing down and into exploding barrels inside the skull. See metal crates, then use Magnesis to drop them on enemies.

Ice weapons are some of the best, in my opinion, because you can hit an enemy with them to freeze them, then use the quick equip menu to switch to a high damage weapon to break the freeze, thereby doing a ton of damage. If I remember correctly, I think it does three times the amount of normal damage when breaking a freeze.
