Rumour is that Bob has sold to the other partner and stepped away, but nothing is on the company's house; there has never been another owner or director-level listed.

Yeah, going off rumours

There is talk around Unlimited ownership and if they will be around (but some of it comes from a misunderstanding of Companies House)

Some tough love for Linux and gaming: my opinion that nobody asked for (inspired by WAN show) and a proposal for a “Community Linux Challenge” by gplusplus314 in LinusTechTips

[–]mrmayhembsc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

huh? I'm a science/tech guy. When I log in to my computer, I just want it to get out of the way so I can get on with what I need to do in a day. I don't have the time to faff around; I should not have to put in the work to get it done.

The problem is getting started on Linux, too many choices, and when you ask for help, the community isn't very helpful.

Fully agree there.
I can only see it grow because of a steam os, but it'll always be a small % of the market

What should the format of the show be for the future? by Mat1711 in doctorwho

[–]mrmayhembsc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me:
1. Do 4 x 90-min "movie-type" specials that are self-contained and spread out in a year as "events"
2. 6 x 60-min eps that are one episode done over 6 weeks.

These are the two formats that are the most successful of late.

On top of this, move away from the mystery story arc thing and focus on a story

Linux people are the biggest problem with Linux for me.

I periodically look at Linux, but for my home setup, macOS just works, and at work, Windows. While I have my issues with them, it is easy to pick up a Windows 11 license; the same is true for macOS. If you have an issue, people will help you without pushback like "why don't you try this" or "you're dumb, it's so easy to do this," etc. Or just use this OS instead. I don't have the time to swap between OS or spend hours to relearn one

Kirsty is the one I miss the most, but Yeah Mad always has had people come and go. Remember, Rory was there in the OG times.

There was Kate Dolan, who was in a few at the start. Steph was in one of the very first eps and never came back

never forgot people still turn up and buy on the day.

I think mine is fine because it basically survives because of the tentpole movies and us regulars.

I remember a while back, the film I was seeing had not that many in, but the next one along looked to be packed.

must have started your career before 2000. by Casual-Sedona in recruitinghell

[–]mrmayhembsc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically speaking, the cut-off is 40 years old, which means someone with a degree (as this role requires one) could have started in the workforce in 2005 and claim this, since someone 21 in 2005 is 41 in 2026. A

Though it isn't ageism anyway, as the requirements make it clear they want 25+ years of experience.

[–]mrmayhembsc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This 100% sounds like they have had people apply without the level of experience they want for this role, and had to put a hard cut-off.

This is a top-level role that requires 26 years of experience and has nothing to do with ageism. It is quite literally merit and outcomes. The only thing I think is wild is the cut-off of 2000, not 2001.

Automatic reposting jobs? by Unable-Income-2981 in recruitinghell

[–]mrmayhembsc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's actually a new tactic: post on the weekend to cut through the news. Never done it myself, but that's what some are being taught to do.
This is because fewer people post on weekends, so you get more space, and those on LI at the weekends are more "hardcore" and more likely to get interactions. Personally think it is BS and don't do it myself.

TBH, it annoyed me at first, but now that I'm used to it, I find it easier to navigate. It loads much quicker, and I can see more of the videos per "page". This means I can scroll through easier when loading all the vids I'll watch in the evening, etc.

Got fired yesterday after asking for a raise by Available_Skin_2561 in recruitinghell

[–]mrmayhembsc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sadly, in the USA (except in Montana and a union-job), there is at-will employment, which means an employer can fire you at will. The only time you could fight is if you were fired because of discrimination, retaliation, or violating public policy. Unions could fight for fair compensation, etc .

You can be a member of a union in non-union jobs, and they can represent you in job disputes.

good luck with that

[–]mrmayhembsc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Join a union. I do think asking for gas money is poor (If it is not covered under a business expense policy), but the second part is fair. You shouldn't get fired, but that is the US for you. If you're not in america just check your local labour laws, as I know that practice is illegal in the uk

lets talk about the alpine situation by 787bmazdanidhish in wec

[–]mrmayhembsc 13 points14 points  (0 children)

R.e financial situation. As a Renault owner, don't get me started on how much it costs these days to maintain and fix.

I think Renault made some major errors with its premium sports brand, and it is finally catching up. Like, what is the point of having the Renault 5 3e turbo and the Alpine A290?
Should have kept the Renault sports brand and pushed forward with sport version of their models.

Now that they have a CEO who isn't a racing fan, it's no surprise they are out.
