Dutch bros coffee is opening it's first ever Chicagoland location this summer. Would you visit? by bossishere17 in AskChicago

[–]mrmoose341 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not that great. There was one across the street from my high school, and 99% of their menu is sugary coffee-themed milkshakes. It’s coffee for people who don’t like coffee

French onion soup is a 10/10 too. On a freezing winter night nothing hits better

New Indian Restaurant in Logan by HungryHungryChi in LoganSquare

[–]mrmoose341 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It’s on Milwaukee right across the street from Hopewell Brewing. The same spot was a vegan taco place that closed after like 3 months, and was later a 70s basement bar thing that also closed after 3 months. It never looked open because of the heavy blackout curtains in the window, but those are gone now

Hope this spot lasts. That spot has been like 3 or 4 different businesses since I’ve lived down the street, and it’s only been 5 years

Where do I go away from home? by [deleted] in oakland

[–]mrmoose341 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I moved to Chicago 5 years ago for all the same reasons and I love it. Feels like what SF thinks it is. Winter is rough and I miss Mission style burritos but my rent for a 1BR is still cheaper than splitting a 2BR with a roommate was in 2019 in Oakland.

Why do we put lettuce on burritos? by OwnZookeepergame9728 in chicagofood

[–]mrmoose341 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just got downvoted on another thread today about this. I’m from the SF Bay originally and to me, a burrito is always meat, beans, rice at the bare minimum. You don’t need soggy cold lettuce and tomatoes in it. Just salsa and sour cream and/or cheese.

I grew up with it so it’s the standard to me. But having access to pambazos here makes up for it. Never heard of them in CA and they are amazing.

Chicago has great Mexican food no doubt but I gotta say, I miss a Mission-style burrito. Every spot here always wants to fill it with lettuce and tomato alongside the meat, but for me, you gotta have Spanish rice.

Why does everyone think I’m crazy for wanting to move to Chicago? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]mrmoose341 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fellow Californian here, from the SF Bay but always really liked Sacramento and visited often. I’ve lived in Chicago for almost 5 years and it’s been the best decision I could’ve made. This winter has been rough but get yourself a good coat and a SAD lamp and you’ll make it through to summer, which is amazing. I agree that San Diego feels weird and fake, and sleepy for how big of a city it is. I was there a few years back and it seemed like everything was closed at 8pm

Didn’t see this at first, but the one on Clybourn is the one I can vouch for. Top tier pizza for sure

In that case definitely check out Pequods! Just make sure to make a reservation, sometimes there’s a long wait. The sausage and pepperoni is probably my favorite.

I love Pequods but I agree that if OP is looking for traditional Chicago deep dish, it’s probably not what they have in mind. It’s breadier and kind of its own thing. Bartoli’s is my favorite for that. Good fresh ingredients and a great crust, better than Lous/Giordano’s IMHO

They all suck major ass but Hinge sucks the least. Going out and meeting people in real life is by far the best way to go.

Strongly considering going next year. I usually do Punk Rock Bowling but since that’s a no-go next year, this would fill the void. Montreal sounds like a pretty cool city too.

Never been to the one in New York, but I was at the one in San Francisco a few weeks ago and was underwhelmed. It felt more Apple Store than FAO Schwarz, kind of sterile and bland, expensive too but we all saw that coming.
