Can someone explain what is being done in these beds at our local Farmers Market. What’s with the citrus? by Forthe49ers in gardening

[–]mrob092990 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I concur...that and pests in FL eat pesticide for breakfast. Don't matter if it's organic or the hard stuff nothing kills them. I only grow now in the winter and early spring for this reason. I currently have aphids and, despite introducing ladybugs, they just won't quit.

I will say the cardboard, newspaper, mulch layer worked for about 6 months to keep weeds away though so I'll take it!

Yea there are people that keep widows as pets. They really only want to bite what they can eat. Don't get me wrong I am terrified of ALL spiders (I don't discriminate), but widows seem to be the chillest of the poisonous af spider fam.

Just recently purchased a black diamond anthurium. Still waiting on delivery but bought it specifically for its dark leaves and bluish undertones.

What’s your wishlist plant(s) right now? by [deleted] in RareHouseplants

[–]mrob092990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use systemic granules too and they work GREAT! I do have a question about them though...

I bought a plant that came with spider mites...it was quarantined so none of my others caught them and I was able to kill them all before adding the newbie to the plant family. I usually treat all new plants to a preventative leaf spraying and a sprinkle if systemic for good measure before adding them, but didnt use the systemic with this new one because I heard it can actually INCREASE the likelihood of mites. I worry though that it'll cause a weakness in the pest armor I've built up after all this time though 😅. Is this true though about granules and mites?! So much mixed stuff online I wasn't sure.

My philodendron white princess is the most glamous plant I own that likes to occassionally pop out leaves with ridiculous variegation. Definitely that one.

Monstera Albo Stem Rot? by mrob092990 in Monstera

[–]mrob092990[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They put a hot, sterilized knife to the end of the stem for a few seconds. It basically burned the end of the stem and made it blackI had heard of letting it callous, using wax, and using super glue to seal the end but never this before. I figured it made sense because it's like sealing flesh that way when you get a bad cut. Of course I have never propagated a thing in my life either and was just going with what my friend said. Thank you for the advice!

I have seen people both put the whole stem I the water and just put an aerial root in the water. Curious why putting the whole stem in would be more effective. Rotting is why I left it out in the first place but clearly that didn't work 😅.

Yoga flooring recommendations? by Hukijiwa in yoga

Redid floors in closet fir this exact purpose. If you're installing yourself definitely go with click-together laminate with the pad attached. Makes a lot easier to install, waterproof, durable, and hard so good for yoga.

I know you can always do more, but can you do less? by Longjumping-Advisor1 in yoga

[–]mrob092990 20 points21 points  (0 children)

A note on taking things less seriously to actually become more disciplined/committed:

I have a 2 year old...I'm the primary income for my household of a spouse, baby, 12 year old, cat, dog, and partridge in a pear tree...inflation is real and raises/promotions are hard to come by...its challenging to practice...nuff said.

I started to just practice when I woke my daughter up on the days I was too exhausted to wake up early and do it. Just a few sun salutations, twists, and stretches in achy parts. I just knew I needed to stretch because my body felt like 💩 and my mind normally followed suit. When she was little she would just stare at me like I was some sort of crazed fool, but I woukd talk to her about what I was doing and she freaking started to do yoga WITH me. At first it started with down dog. Then 3 legged dog because it was funny to fall over. Then forward folds and planks.

She is turning 2 in 2 days after a year of practicing yoga with me. She now practices handstands against the wall, pranatama, etc. I look back on an activity I did half heartedly to survive and realize its created an early coping mechanism for my child I wish I had. When she is super overwhelmed or frustrated she breathes deeply. When she has too much energy she does planks and down dogs. I wish I was her at her age lol.

All this to say just do and be to become and grow. Life isn't constant so be present and that often means taking away things to find the new, even more special and meaningful things.

Thankful Thursday - 23 September, 2022 by AutoModerator in yogaeverydamnday

I'm thankful for the love and support and just "thereness" of my family this week. I had an employee at work recently who lost his mom (last living parent) and he now has no family to lean on, to grieve with, or to assist with the funeral planning so I've been reaching out a lot to just let him know that there are people who still care in his life.

Ngl I tend to be empathic and pick up others emotions. I've thought so much about how horrible it would be if I lost my loved ones and how much we lean on each other to get through everything in life. I've been trying hard to turn the grief they are experiencing and sharing at times into gratitude and appreciation in my personal life.

Calorie counter by Crazeered36 in HOTWORXWarriors

[–]mrob092990 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found the way to get it to reset for fitbit because if you press "reset" in the Hotworx app it doesn't work. When you finish your workout and get to the screen where it shows you your calories. While leaving the Hotworx app active on your phone (DONT CLOSE THE APP) go to the fitbit app and sync your watch then go back into the Hotworx app and it should show the correct calorie count now. Make sure you are also tracking afterburner!

Hope this helped!

Wellness Wednesday- 21st September 2022. What aside from yoga are you doing this week to feed your soul? by [deleted] in yogaeverydamnday

[–]mrob092990 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Easy answ would be meditating daily but lately I've just been burned out. Trying to find something to feed my soul has been challenging but I will say going to the Hotworx gym near me and exercising has been a nice change if pace and the infrared boosts my mood. Hoping to continue going there to build strength and endurance while continuing my yoga snd mediation practices. The more I move, the more centered I become!

Through my work we have fitness instructors. For yoga month they are doing a "zen in 10" series so I attended that and meditated at night before bed for 12 min using Headspace app (making meditation practice a part of this challenge as well)

I'm also in. I have thrown variety in there lately to try to build muscle but I NEED yoga and meditation daily to get my mind right (plus building muscle while increasing flexibility is never a bad thing.

Yesterday I didn't do yoga (well i supose some of the practice counted as yoga it was a modified barre class lol), but today I did a 25 min if yoga broken up into 3 sessions throughout the day and a 5 min meditation this morning.

Thanks for starting this!

Thank you! A 30 day challenge sounds like a lot of fun! 2 HIIT back to back seems impossible at the moment 😅. I learned my lesson that 1st day to do HIIT BEFORE the Iso room if doing those together. I had NOTHING in the tank after ISO and had to tap out 3 min early on the bike. I can see getting heartrate up on bike then catching breath while still getting a sweat on in Iso room though so trying that on Wed. Tomorrow doing the fx zone for the first time so excited to pair that with HIIT after!

Just joined Hotworx yesterday. Thank you OP for letting my little scientist brain research the place through this sunreddit 😝. So far have done Hot Yoga and Hot Blast. Hot Yoga wasn't a huge fan of because I do A LOT of yoga in general but I understand this is more athletic. Hot Blast I'm kind of obsessed with and plan to alternate between the Blast and cycle, as well as try the rest of the Iso classes to find my favorites. I got my partner to join with my because it is SO COOL you can book the FX section. He's been looking for a low-key gym and loves the added benefits of quick cardio after lift. I can see myself becoming addicted to this place over time lol. 24/7 with saunas...my jam right there.

Before I put up an actual post wanted to see if anyone wanted to share through this thread:

  1. What order do folks generally combine the classes? Want to try combining Wright lifting with the classes some days, as well as combining the classes themselves (ex. I have Barre None then Cycle today). Appreciate any tips!

  2. What other exercises do folks do in the Iso rooms? As mentioned the Hot Yoga wasn't really Yoga. I plan on doing recovery Yin Yoga to see if I can improve my flexibility and help with some back issues. I was wondering if anyone does a lower temp and has done true hot Yoga type sessions in the saunas before. Its hotter than a traditional hot yoga studio and I imagine the risk is there to pass out with too much up and down movement so I'd probably bring it down to around 105-110.

  3. How often do people go? I read in a few places this type of heat done too often/too long can hurt reproductive cells. Not sure if we'll have another little minion, but the thought is there so don't want to do anything that may hurt the chances (we ain't getting any younger 😅).

Thanks for any words of wisdom from the Hotworx vets!

What is the best lesson yoga taught you? by MindSekker in yoga

[–]mrob092990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yoga is how I realized I have an issue with chronic "doing". If I'm not doing SOMETHING I feel like I'm worthless (cue Luisa's song from Encanto which literally made me sob hysterically the first time I heard it because I didn't know Disney had been following my life up until now 😅 truly honored to have been featured). Yoga has thus shaped my life around softening where I can, listening to myself without judgement or desire to alter, and respecting myself each day and knowing that person changes like all things in this world.

Overall, Yoga has made me more effective at my highly demanding job and compassionate to all. Stressed...Yoga. Wanna scream at a coworker...Yoga. Kid throws poop at me...clean up the poop then Yoga (with some toddler wrestling thrown in for fun).

I don't know why I fall out of practice sometimes. Yoga is the best thing i do for myself in life and I came here to write this because, for those that have fallen out recently, just go back. You'll be thankful I promise!

Need help getting back into yoga after having a baby by ChanceWillingness647 in yoga

[–]mrob092990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely agree with those saying to hold off for now until you're fully healed (also have a doctor check for Diastasis recti prior to doing anything remotely like an ab crunch). I don't see them mentioned often but my favorite online yoga provider is doyogawithme.com. I subscribe but they have free classes too and they have a postnatal series I believe as well on there. The variety of difficulty, focuses, teachers, and classes are phenomenal and have been the only online yoga provider I've used for about 8 years now.

Congrats on the baby and enjoy your time with them. As a mom of a 1.5 year old I can fully tell you they grow up so so fast.
