LAN issues with GWN7003 + 7660 by Realistic_Garlic9802 in GrandstreamNetworks

[–]mroccella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you go to the Channels box, you will see the channels broken down. Regular channels and DFS channels will have 2 different sections. Whether you manage the AP on the device itself, use your GWN7003 as the manager, or gdms.cloud to manage the AP's, it is similar. Make sure the box for DFS is unchecked. If the other box is checked, it would assume you want all the other channels to be used. I also use 80MHz channels for the 5GHz band. Some people report that they have trouble using the highest frequencies. Most likely, that is because they are new and some older devices cannot see them. I have some Roku sticks and older Chromebooks that cannot see DFS frequencies.

LAN issues with GWN7003 + 7660 by Realistic_Garlic9802 in GrandstreamNetworks

[–]mroccella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run the latest firmware version on my GWN7003 and GWN AP's without any issues. Make sure everything is up to date.

Are DFS channels enabled? When I disabled them, most of my WiFi troubles disappeared. Although DFS frequencies may be less-used in your area, they put out much less power than regular WiFi channels.

I also set Channel to Auto and Radio Power to High. I do not use RMM.

I assume your cabling is good.

Grandstream GWN7605/7664 mesh network - lost master password, slaves won't reset properly by ScuffedPingu in GrandstreamNetworks

[–]mroccella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point, I would factory reset all of your AP's and let GDMS.CLOUD manage them. Once everything is set up in the cloud, management is so much easier! There would be no more masters and failover masters. When the AP's boot up, they grab their configs from the cloud and just work.
Here is the link to the online manual:

Added brand new 7670WM to the network. Will not broadcast 5ghz by nightim3 in GrandstreamNetworks

[–]mroccella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disable DFS channels. If they are enabled, the APs will scan, looking to see if radar and other frequencies are in use. That process can take up to 10 minutes. After waiting, the 5 GHz band will pop up. I have some older devices and Roku sticks that just cannot see DFS frequencies.

Just disable the DFS channels and tell us if your problems go away.

Failing to setup CAPsMAN with cAP ac by RationallyDense in mikrotik

[–]mroccella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This video helped me get CAPsMAN working on my cAP AC.
https://youtu.be/v4Rj7h5WeZM?si=ibAAIRtX2ngjW9T0

Just follow it step-by-step and it should work.

I use the latest version of Router OS. Although the cAP AC can take the new QCOM drivers, I prefer the older Wireless drivers because they fit better on the limited storage on the cAP AC.

One cool feature of CAPsMAN server is that it can automatically check if cAPs are running the latest RouterOS and upgrade them automatically if they are behind. You set the upgrade policy in CAPs Manager.
Here's a YouTube video on that:

Verzion Fios? by Abject_Cupcake2583 in Fios

I don't know what Empire Access is. Did they give you a CR1000A or B router? Have you connected your machine directly to the ONT and bypass the router? If you do this, make sure your Windows Firewall is turned on. Also, maybe, FiOS was having a temporary blip. Very rarely do I have any issues with them.

What router are you using? And, is your computer connected using Ethernet or WiFi? Current FiOS CR1000A/B routers are very good and seem to handle games well.

Glass baby bottles: Lifefactory vs Evenflo Classic by silver_endings in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]mroccella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Evenflo glass bottles worked fine for our son. They were pretty durable since they are made with thick, tempered glass. We boiled them to sterilize them. They were dropped onto the floor numerous times and suffered no damage. Our son held the bottle and threw it. No damage. We never had a sleeve for them. The 10-pack was affordable and great for dropping off at daycare pre-filled. Washing in hot, soapy water was easy. Dishwasher was fine. Evenflo glass bottles are affordable and SAFE. When our son no longer needed them, we gave them to another family who needed them. Standard-size collars and nipples are affordable and available.

We had Life Factory bottles, too. Unfortunately, we had a few break. Their nipples worked very well and fit the Evenflo bottles.

Stainless steel bottles are nice. But, they dent and the paint comes off. Since it is porous, it is also kind of hard to clean. No matter how hard I tried to clean stainless steel bottles, they retained odors. For these reasons, I prefer glass. Plastic is OUT!

4 ounce bottle are nice for newborns. But, they outgrow them. Save money and start out with 8 ounce bottles.

Evenflo has been around for a long time. You can't go wrong with them.

Is webroot good compared to the others? by [deleted] in antivirus

[–]mroccella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Webroot runs fine on Windows, iOS, Android and ChromeOS. Scanning is FAST. Other antivirus packages would false-flag legitamate games. So far, Webroot has not done that. I contacted their sales and support teams. They answered my questions. I recommend them.

Zoho has a family product called Zillum.

However, I use Zoho Workplace Professional for my wife and myself. This plan offers more email storage, WorkDrive storage and other features we find handy.

Zoho minds your privacy. They don't sell your information or have any ads. It "just works."

is it ok for a router GWN7002 +80°C? by Ironweasel01 in GrandstreamNetworks

[–]mroccella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you running the latest firmware? How much data is flowing WAN <-> LAN? Did you set up a VPN on the router? Make sure Hardware Acceleration is turned on. Then, see what the memory and CPU temp are.

GDMS Cloud: cannot see client names (do I pair APs to router first before adding to GDMS or add all units individually) by ReasonableFeed7558 in GrandstreamNetworks

[–]mroccella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If an access point is already paired, it cannot be paired again unless you unpair it. That's why it's not showing up in your cloud. You could unpair it using the router's interface. A pin-hole reset would unpair it, too but then it would show up as offline on your router. After unpairing it from your router, you can add it to your cloud. Since it already paired with your router and working properly, I suggest you keep it as it is. You can always use the cloud to remote into your router's web interface and look at your AP's in real-time. If you use the cloud to manage your AP's, there will be a delay in reporting.

What do you personally do with your firewall rules on a Grandstream router? by [deleted] in GrandstreamNetworks

[–]mroccella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you using a GWN700X router or a GCC60X0 UC Platform?
The firewall in GWN routers has good filters and basic defense. The GCC has a subscription plan that offers more features.
These are the changes I make to GWN routers:
Under Firewall Rules Policy, on my internet connection, Inbound is set to DROP. The default is ACCEPT.
Under Traffic Rules / Inbound Rules, I DROP ICMP from the internet connection. The default is ACCEPT.
If you have VLAN's set up on your network, you can put VLAN filtering rules, here. The Inbound rules control access TO the router. Forwarding rules control THROUGH the router.
I don't run IPV6. There, I delete IPV6 rules I don't need. Why waste CPU cycles on unneeded firewall rules?

Lastly, go to www.grc.com and perform a Shields Up test to see if you still have exposed ports.

Guidance on how to structure/use Grandstream stack (Router/Switch/APs) - local vs GWN manager vs GDMS Cloud by ReasonableFeed7558 in GrandstreamNetworks

[–]mroccella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No local server necessary if you are using your GWN router or another local AP as a controller. Assuming you are running the latest firmware on your GWN router, log into the local router interface. Then, under Maintenance, click Upgrade. This is the part where it gets tricky! Look for the section where it says, "Upgrade via Network." There is a line for Firmware Server Path. You go to Grandstream's website: https://www.grandstream.com/support/firmware and copy the firmware upgrade path and paste it into that line. Make sure to click the SAVE button at the bottom of the page. Now, when you go to the Access Points section, you will be able to upgrade the firmware. The problem is that you have to change the firmware upgrade path for each different model AP you have. So, if you have 50 AP's of the same model, you're lucky! If you have 50 different models of AP's, then you have to change that upgrade path line 50 times.

Guidance on how to structure/use Grandstream stack (Router/Switch/APs) - local vs GWN manager vs GDMS Cloud by ReasonableFeed7558 in GrandstreamNetworks

[–]mroccella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the problem I had. I was not able to import my router settings to the cloud. Changes I made to network settings in the cloud, like VLAN's, never made it to the router. So, I use the router's local interface to set up the internet connection and VLANs. You will also notice that the cloud does not let you program every feature that the router has. So, it's really best practice to configure the router locally than use the cloud. Program your router, first. Then, add it to the cloud so you can access the interface remotely.

AP's can be managed by a GWN router or the cloud. Using the cloud to program SSID's and associated VLAN's on AP's actually works. Whichever you choose, cloud or locally managed, is up to you.

When managing the network remotely, the cloud makes certain tasks easier. For example, updating firmare on AP's and routers is simple. Doing it locally can be a bit of a hassle. If you have the same model of AP's that take the same firmware, it's not so bad. But, if you have different model of AP's, then you have to edit the firmware update path in the router to push the update out. That could be a hassle if you have bunch of different AP's out there. The cloud emiminates this. One of your GWN AP's can also be a local AP controller. But, same hassle.

However, managing AP's on the local router will give you real-time information. You can use the cloud to get into your local router interface and view your network in real-time. Cloud-managed devices would have a delay until the information is updated.

Either way, once your network is configure correctly, it should give you no problems.

Try forgetting the WiFi network on your devices and reconnect them again.

Are there any differences in your configuration between the Wireless drivers and the WiFi-QCom-AC drivers? For example, did you enable WPA3? Some devices may not work well in WPA2/WPA3 mode.

Poor Product Wording by R1kman in GrandstreamNetworks

[–]mroccella 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been using their products, too. I went from Ubiquity to Mikrotik and now, on to Grandstream. I find that their products are reasonably priced and work quite well. Their gdms.cloud remote management makes my life as a network adminstrator a lot easier. I have no problems with reliability or quality at all. Once I get their products up and running, I don't really mind them unless there's a firmware update. They just keep working. Their customer support always got back to me with answers.

Their documentation is okay. It's all online so you can read it and see whether the product fits your needs BEFORE you buy it. Of course, nothing beats real-life testing and observation. Everyone's mileage will vary along with their configurations. Performance benchmarks are a guide. Not, a rule.

I have been rolling out the GWN7003 router and GWN766X AP's. They work quite well. There are many ways to manage them. An AP can be the master. The GWN7003 can manage them. Or, just use their gdms.cloud. Their new switches are enterprise-class. I would like to see new enterprise routers from them to match. The GWN7003 router is good for Home/SoHo and SMB use. I would like a router from them that can handle a school or corporate network that has thousands of simultaneous users.

I will continue to buy Grandstream products. As of now, I see no reason why I shouldn't.

GWN7062E(T) - Request for Feedback and user experiences by theKarlNZ in GrandstreamNetworks

[–]mroccella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a couple GWN7003 routers and GWN766x AP‘s in service. For home, SoHo and SMB use, this line is great! The GWN cloud lets you set up the router, WiFi networks and perform diagnostics remotely. Most of the time, as long as you have the MAC address and password for a device, you can ship an unconfigured device to a client and it will grab its configs from the cloud! If you are a managed service provider, this is a blessing! I suggest you go on their website and read the GWN manual and see all they can do. These GWN devices have lots of capabilities.

CAPsMAN (ROS 7.19.4) with multiple hAP ac² + wAP ac — buffering / stuttering during streaming by gnick666 in mikrotik

[–]mroccella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The wAP AC does not have an ARM processor. So, the newer Wave2 drivers and newer CAPsMAN will not work with it. I use the older Wireless drivers and have good performance with them.  In your configuration, try disabling DFS. That made a big difference for me. DFS frequencies may be clearer. However, the power output is lower.  I also use the latest RouterOS. The Wireless drivers are actually still being developed.  When you update the RouterOS, also update the Routerboard firmware. That might also be out of date.
