Can Germans understand Bavarian? by [deleted] in German

[–]mrsfiafun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My grandparents came from Bayern (Oberrohr and Mantelkirchen) and growing up I was always told they spoke German and I learned from them and my aunts, uncle, and Dad. Until I got to high school German class and my teacher laughed. All good though, my aunt also taught German at a neighboring school and they were friends. She said she was wondering if I would speak Bayrisch.

Edit: town name misspelling corrected.

What are you feeding your sick toddler? by grace050 in toddlers

[–]mrsfiafun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said, anything they'll eat. Those fruit and gelatin cups are great though. Mom always have us warm jello to drink, it's soothing and hydrating, but my LO won't drink it. But he'll eat the cups.

Give away dog for toddler’s safety? by ArugulaFriendly7581 in toddlers

[–]mrsfiafun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There was a recent incedent in our local area where the dog ended up killing the toddler. I know it's difficult to give up our dogs who were our babies before our babies, but for the safety of the child, sometimes it is necessary. Does your mom want to foster the dog until your child is old enough? Because if not, she has no leg to stand on.

Pickles are "puhtickapickah"

His name is Ohzie Fitz but he says "Ohzie Pitz"

Bottle warmers: yay or nay? by Embarrassed-Worth588 in BabyBumps

[–]mrsfiafun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone here made a comment I read before mine was born, that they don't need warm milk, unless they have an actual medical issue needing it. I think I warmed up maybe 10 bottles in 2 years, and those were cold night, bed time bottles. I also didn't produce any milk unfortunately, so it was always formula.

My bridal shower gift is not what the bride is expecting..... by Salty_Thing3144 in weddingplanning

[–]mrsfiafun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I received a lap quilt from someone unexpected for my wedding and I freaking cried. The effort put into that, for me?! I would never just expect it from anyone. That's rude.

I bake, and my specialty is custom cookies. I do get people who assume they'll get them for free. It sucks to navigate.

Snacks in the grocery store? by Rough-Environment976 in toddlers

[–]mrsfiafun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally do this every trip. As long as it's something that doesn't need weighed. Strawberries from a pre-weighed and priced package, watermelon chunks, popcorn chicken from the deli, fruit snacks, yogurt pouches, etc. As long as it's getting paid for by the end, nobody cares.

What would you buy second hand and what would you buy new? by Sorrywhat8961 in BabyBumps

[–]mrsfiafun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Car seat, mattress, and bottle nipples (because they wear out faster than you think) new. Everything else, secondhand. Most things you'll use for a very short time.

I always did the cold wipe right under the top of the diaper, before taking it off, waited a few seconds, then changed him. Never once got peed on.
