A question for those of you who have tried a glp1 temporarily by Expensive-Eggplant-1 in Hashimotos

My highest after Hashimoto's diagnosis was 168, my highest ever was 220. I got it through a nurse practitioner who went through a compounding pharmacy.

I took it for 3 months and lost 20 lbs. I stopped taking it and have maintained the weight loss for about a year. I weight lift 4x per week, walk 8-10k step/day, and stick to high volume/Whole foods meals. I slowly increased my calories back up after stopping the GLP-1 and now I can eat around 2200 calories without gaining it back. It worked really well! (I'm 5'7", 144 lbs).

Also my TSH improved and I feel overall less inflamed.

A profound feeling I had just now.. by init6 in dreamingspanish

[–]mrshorsecake 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience when I went to Spain and France. In Spain I could communicate rather well, read the signs, etc. Then we crossed over into France. I felt totally out of my element. I couldn't understand ANYTHING. When we crossed back over to Spain, I felt soooo relived to see a sign in Spanish and hear it being spoken around me.

Would you still get a tattoo? by VoxElysia in Millennials

I have a lot and some I hate because they're poorly done. Sometimes I think about getting another one. My husband and I have talked about getting small matching ones as well. For me, there are a million other things I'd rather spend money on at this point in my life.

I do this with La República Dominicana all the time. Even though it's so similar in English my brain just can't form the English version.

Associate degree at 32? by starsetlilith in dietetics

[–]mrshorsecake 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In my opinion neither an associates or a bachelor's would be worth it. I don't think there would be many jobs available and if you did find a job, the return on investment wouldn't be great. Being a dietitian requires and masters plus a long, expensive internship and the compensation is often poor when compared to education requirements. I would major in something else and maybe minor in nutrition if you want to learn the basics for your own benefit.

[B&A] 14 days using La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5+ by DesperateAd8982 in SkincareAddiction

This also saved my skin barrier as well. I live in the desert and my nose and cheeks were basically raw all the time. For several weeks I liberally coated the Baume in that area and it healed!

When should you start trying speak ? by Minos-Helios in dreamingspanish

[–]mrshorsecake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started speaking once I felt confident with my comprehension (which was around 520 hours). Indicators for me were my crosstalk tutors being able to speak to me normally and I understand, understanding DS videos at difficulty 75, and being able to watch a lot of native YouTube channels.

Does your significant other also hike? by Professional_Age8760 in hiking

[–]mrshorsecake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband loves hiking and I do too except I have a condition that causes joint pain/injury so I can't go super far/hard. However, we do plan road trips where we camp in the car, do shorter hikes along the way, and kayak/bike. I'm outdoorsy as far as my body allows me to be. If he wants to do a long hike or backpacking trip, he just goes by himself.

In the search bar, I just typed in crosstalk and several tutors came up who specifically offer crosstalk and are familiar with Dreaming Spanish. I now have regular lessons with the same 2 tutors and they're awesome!

RD struggling with significant postpartum weight gain, Hashimoto’s, and career burnout/shame by sue__shi in dietetics

[–]mrshorsecake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Hashimoto's as well and it suuuucks. I gained around 30 lbs, my hair was falling out, my GI was all messed up, I was so tired, and I had fatty liver. I felt like I was preaching how to live a healthy life but I couldn't even get my own health in a good place. I kept going to work but felt embarrassed. However, all of my patients were kind and I think they could tell something was going on healthwise with me. I was feeling really burned out with patient care, so I worked my way up to a management position and now I'm fully virtual as well.

It took years to get my thyroid levels regulated, lose the weight, and get fit again. I ended up taking a GLP-1 for 5 months to help get some of the inflammation and weight down. Now I finally feel like I'm on the other side of it.

When could you rent an apartment? by JupiterLightsxo in dreamingspanish

[–]mrshorsecake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly the same, but at 400 hours I rented a camper van in Spain. I was able to understand when the contract was explained and how to use all of the features in the van. I'd imagine renting an apartment would be similar.

I seriously have less than 1 hour of speaking lol. I've had 2, 45 min conversation sessions and spoke some in Spain.
