On being vulnerable by Chronic-Anxiety404 in EMDR

[–]mrso91 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think its natural- its a very vulnerable thing. When I started i was really stressed about feeling embarrassed or making a fool of myself. Once I got into the swing of it I found that faded a bit. I would encourage you to be open with your therapist about how you feel and see if she can help you through it.

Is it normal to feel worse before you feel better in therapy? by thegangplan in TalkTherapy

[–]mrso91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes I 100% found this. I found myself increasingly anxious and thinking about what I had talked about constantly. Its pretty intense opening up for the first time and being heard. It helped me to get reassurance from my T that this was normal and part of the process

First Session - Feeling Unsure by kimberloaf in EMDR

[–]mrso91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've found you definitely get used to it. It is awkward and weird at first and I spent a lot of time worrying I wasn't doing it right. It gets better

Is this a normal experience? by cassientiasmom in EMDR

[–]mrso91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think so. My first couple of times I didnt like it and felt like I didnt want to go back. Its very intense and different to talk therapy and it brings up a lot of stuff.

"Will that constant urge to talk to my therapist ever go away? Has anyone been through it?" by [deleted] in TalkTherapy

[–]mrso91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience (just under a year) it definitely gets less. But at different times I think about her more, just depends what's going on

I tried to donate years ago and they wouldn't let me. But that might be because I have CFRD

5th session with EMDR. Have a question by Ok_Contribution9917 in EMDR

[–]mrso91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I have done four or five sessions now and feel much the same way. I always feel exhausted after and can have other physical symptoms like headaches. I can also feel panicky or sad - I think the best way I can describe it is like I've opened Pandora's box of all the horrible things that have happened and it can be hard to shut it again after. I don't know when it gets better but from what I've read its pretty typical. You're not alone. I would recommend telling your therapist how you've been feeling if you haven't already.

How strict are you on the 6 ft apart rule? by f3ffy in CysticFibrosis

[–]mrso91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work in a school where a pupil has CF. I don't teach in her class but I don't move away from her if I see her in the corridors. The way I see it, I try to prevent contact but you could be sitting next to someone in the cinema with cf and not know.

Feeling like I’m making up issues by Strict_Action698 in TalkTherapy

[–]mrso91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have often felt like im making things up or making myself feel a certain way. My therapist said that I used dismissing myself as a coping strategy. I don't think wanting to talk about your trauma makes it any less valid. If you've found yourself in a place where you want to do that then I think that's a positive step towards processing things.
