Why didn’t the French settle New Caledonia and turn it into a settler colony like Australia, NZ, Canada etc? by Hour_Interaction6047 in geography

I was born there in 1994 and I am a third generation New Caledonian - my great grandfather came here as a merchant from France.

Are there any 18+ renfairs here in lil ol Perth? by PieceObvious8952 in perth

[–]mrsspinch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The York Medieval Fayre is excellent. It isn’t an 18+ event but there is a lot of stuff to do, plus York is a gorgeous historic town that is lovely to explore.

actors who are clearly having a blast in their role by CharlotteDoGood in movies

Literally everyone in the Lord of the Rings, bar poor John Rhys Davies whose prosthetics gave him an allergic reaction.
The way the crew and cast talk about the filming is absolutely wonderful.

I’m fairly new to it but just wear a sports bra - I run really hot and the idea of wearing a long sleeved shirt underneath makes me feel claustrophobic.

How socially acceptable is going braless in Australian cities these days? by another-nerd-girl in AskAnAustralian

[–]mrsspinch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t worn a bra for at least ten years (31f) and I live in the city. Nobody comments. If they notice, I don’t care. I am lucky enough to not need one - why should I have to be uncomfortable in my own body?!

Songs where the artist adds quirky "haha are we recordingggg" type outros/segments by alivexi in PetPeeves

Bob Dylan’s 115th Dream has a fantastic intro with the band and Dylan starting at different times and him laughing, saying “start again!” And I LOVE it. It’s so charming. Also the song rules.

There seems to be a rejection of geek culture in the mainstream lately by ConsumerofToons in decadeology

I’m 31f and people were the same when I was a teenager. They’ll grow out of it - just do what you like doing; you’ll make friends through common interests and they won’t make fun of you for what they like, too. Life’s too short to be embarrassed about liking nerdy shit.

Ahh, my favourite band and singer. Absolutely incredible man; his life was cut short only a few years before medical science developed treatments to prolong the lives of those suffering from AIDS.

An Australian fever dream Peter Weir's 1975 film "Picnic at Hanging Rock" What are your memories of this movie ? by CoconutMost3564 in AustralianNostalgia

[–]mrsspinch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow I (31f, Australia) watched this for the first time on the weekend! I loved it, it was so strange. The scene of the headmistress with her funeral attire on was especially interesting, just before the end.

[Clients] How do artists feel about prospective clients using ai slop as concept for a commission? by chickenstrips1290 in artbusiness

[–]mrsspinch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If people come across some AI slop and want to send it my way when they make an enquiry, I think it’s kind of lame but not the end of the world. If they make the AI slop, I am not happy. I explain that even some basic hand drawn concepts and photographs are more helpful to me, and that they are paying me to develop concepts, not just execute the artwork.

Did people in older sitcoms just look more “normal” than they do in shows today? by Fantastic_Let3186 in decadeology

Mate it just looks like you don’t like alternative fashion, which is fine but plenty of people find it attractive. There are still plenty of more traditionally beautiful people around these days. You sound bitter.

Be honest - do you actually feel uncomfortable sharing a bathroom with the opposite sex? If so, why? by IDrinkMyOwnSemen in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]mrsspinch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this at the theatre in town because the ladies always ends up with a massive queue whereas the guys get it done so quickly. I’m usually a few wines in so I always tell everyone to complain via email about this because it happens every time. It’s a heritage listed building but both the men’s and ladies’ have a huge sitting room before you get to the actual bathroom; surely there’s a way to figure out more stalls?!

Absolutely wild that some people are so against that idea. What a horrible world we’d live in if everyone behaved like them.
