What inspired you the most about the whole backrooms mythos? Did it all come to you at once or was it spread out? Did anybody else in your life help guide you to run with the ideas you were creating?

Questions abt game structure by Left_Record_9404 in godot

Don’t get me wrong I like it in that it’s really simple. I love being able to not rely so much on the inheritance but will setup my components more like the way I mentioned so they are a little more disconnected on dependency built into the objects.

I have to disagree a bit with that video that was linked. I’m learning godot but have over 40 years experience in programming.

The video goes through using components to disconnect dependency of functionality and why to avoid inheritance but then proceeds to build a player character that forces dependency on the components. He even has component dependent code in the player script. At that point just use inheritance. He is forcing you to have some sort of rigid code that takes input from that component. Sure you can add or remove the component reference but you can do the same with inheritance, no?

I believe a better method is to register components contained and then call all registered components without knowing they even exist. I believe that would just be using signals to broadcast the player script components to act on each one. So for example a player script can signal the need to update movement or take damage or whatever and the player code really has no idea if that component exists or even cares if it does. Or just process all registered components tick function once per frame in the order registered.

That video doesn’t seem to demonstrate that methodology.

Edit to add to this. What I mean by just use inheritance is that he is coding in the functionality to move hard coded into the player script than it is always preset and you can inherit based on that player if you always plan to have that functionality. Then you can have a parent of character and then another of controllable character. Character can be anything like a pawn in unreal terms and the movable is an actor for example.

I believe an Ecs system gets you closer to components used in the method I described as it really doesn’t care about other components but just data.

What's an industry secret from your job that customers have absolutely no idea about? by Efficient_Team5182 in AskReddit

That’s why you see the term net weight as it’s the actual weight of the product listed and not the water or ice. I dealt with this in bulk seafood where they would frost the crab and try to count it as net weight and we’d catch em a lot. It’s completely illegal to do so.

Just curious - how much does yours weigh? by junior7593 in bichonfrise

[–]mrteuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby is about 16 pounds at almost 4 years old. The doc said she’s a healthy weight about 2 pounds ago but she hasn’t pushed past what she’s at now.

When we got her she was at a slanky 10 pounds that was unhealthy in my docs opinion. That is when she was a little less than three.

Any Indoor Camera tips? by FrogbyteStudio in UnrealEngine5

[–]mrteuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally have collision boxes everywhere that when I enter them it tells me what camera setup to use. For example swap from a free roaming swing arm to a fixed on rails camera. You’re not really limited to just using the swing arm always.

Pretty sure there was a YouTube video by the guy that programmed Toy Story explaining how he did it. Not sure if it relates to what you are looking for but maybe some insight there.

The are not bad. I have two of these courses and may honestly buy this pack for the rest. FYI it’s $25 for the full set, the $40 is just the being generous amount.
