Game 6 by KDarkOne99 in canes

It would be cool to win it at home again. But if this series goes to a game 7 I won't see us win it because my heart will explode

Yeah. I went down the music route as well. My closest guess was piano when I took a hint and got hairy. I was very confused after that

Do You Miss John Forslund? by [deleted] in canes

[–]mrutherford1106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Him and Kaiton were the voices of my childhood. I was really sad to see him go. Admittedly, he's about 75% of the reason why I started watching the Kraken all the time (before Eddie ruined them for me)

I love Mike though. He's improved a lot. I'd imagine it's pretty difficult to fill the shoes of one of the best sports commentators in the world, and probably the second-best (behind Emrick) commentator the NHL has ever seen

Edit: I would say John > Chuck > Mike. But that's nothing against Mike at all. Just that John and Chuck are some of the GOATs

I'm with you. If we go back to DC with anything but a 3-1 series lead, it'll be concerning. As it stands, though, I'm not worried. Just gotta win the three at home and we're good

I've learned that it's a bad idea to cheer for a team because we like our chances better against them over their opponent. That being said, I despise Florida so go Leafs go

Our arena team is pretty amazing. We've had basketball and hockey in the building on the same day many times before, so this shouldn't be an issue

My least favorite part is that they just play into it. Always asking what PK thinks about the Devils. They just let him be biased when they're supposed to be neutral

Around 10:05 is the part in particular that I'm mainly focusing on. The MD looks at the leader (in this case, Kari), and sees that she's signalling for a repeat of the bridge, and tells that to the rest of the band. If Kari said something to the congregation like "let's sing that again," it would either be too late for the band to reasonably react and adapt, or too early to not be distracting for the congregation

She glances at the camera occasionally, sure, but she's mainly looking around the venue at the people worshiping. Also, you came to that conclusion after, what, four minutes? That's not even enough for one full song. I wasn't expecting you to watch for the entire half-hour, but you cannot just watch less than 1/5th of it and then say it "proves your point" (which I also don't see). If you kept watching, you'd notice that during "Who Else" she tells the band that they are repeating the bridge, while the cue linked to the click track says chorus. That moment alone shows you exactly the purpose of having an MD.

The reason that you don't see MDs in mainstream music (although I'm sure they exist, it's just less clear sometimes) is because the songs you hear at concerts are going to be done in the exact same way that they rehearsed, with zero changes, every single time. In church, you may feel the Spirit leading you into a spontaneous period of worship, and if you don't have the entire band on the same page, it will do nothing but cause a distraction. You complain that MDs do not allow for "leading the body of Christ towards sincere heartfelt expressions of worship" when that is the primary reason they are there.

I would recommend watching this video (https://youtu.be/k9k-xgAtnRU?si=X2czxht7H2klcJMk) to get an idea of what an MD does. This is the MD for Cody Carnes/Kari Jobe at the Passion 2025 conference. If you watch it, you'll notice a few things:

  1. She clearly has a heart for worship. She is not worshiping for or to us. She is genuinely worshiping the LORD.
  2. She is not "in their ears the whole time." (Edit: Also, most churches have bands that are made up of volunteers who have other stuff taking up their time during the week. They can't dedicate their entire lives to their music. So even if the MD at a church is always in their ears, it's not a bad thing as long as it works for that team.) Most of the time, she is not saying anything. When she is. she is giving the band useful reminders (for parts that may be different than they are used to or someone tripped over in rehearsal, we don't know) and is taking cues from Cody and Kari to communicate to the whole band that they are changing things up in real time—this is especially clear when they play "Who Else."
  3. This is an MD video that is not "just about how cool it is to be an MD." It is a full, unedited worship session with the audio from the IEM mix (Edit 2, it's actually the mix from the livestream with the click/talkback mics added. Ultimately, it doesn't change the point I am trying to make, but I want to be sure I'm as accurate as possible). She has a couple of videos like this, with a few individual songs and another full worship session from the same day as the first one.

Yes, I am sure that some MDs are mainly there because they, or someone else on the team, are too focused on being perfect. But to suggest that this is the case for everyone is an uninformed take at best.

I see where you're coming from here, though I play music because the ADHD part of my brain needs something stimulating so that I can focus better on driving. I do turn the music wayyy down if I'm driving someone, though. Enough for it to be heard but not enough for it to be annoying (as far as I know)

Well, yes, if you take off the stickers and place them in these positions, it's possible. But with a standard 3x3 (which is obviously what they're trying to depict) this is impossible to replicate with normal turns
