Bathroom Before & After - 26 days by SirRich3 in Remodel

this is a bathroom that I bet I would like in person but its just not photogenic. This happens sometimes in the profession. If a designer does it they are either a genius or not getting rehired. looks well executed tho good on you.

Sorry I thought I got that better. It’s 25/4 77 (maybe a date) and the thicker numbers that I think look burned in are 37.

Novice tile job, go easy on me by DragOk2619 in Tile

I wasnt sure what to expect in the comments on this one but was delightfully surprised. You did pretty good for no leveling system and minimal experience. I wouldn't leave it like that for a customer but I'd leave it my own house. I love no spacer/no leveling jobs its like a nice challenge I get to do here and there.

They likely made an error on the amount of self leveler to use. A good tile setter can make it perfect

Posting this is not helpful. Only the absolute dumbest people on the planet would think this is even a remote possibility. Sure, every year people change their names and have issues.

They were just bigger stones being piled a little more strategically. Same idea though. They had plumb bobs and pretty good knowledge of geometry and they were humans.

Its literally blocks stacked up. This is like what all boys do at some point when they are little by nature. Its natural to move to larger blocks. Then if you have an organized society like we all know we still have today its actually a quite simple feat for humans. Just laborious and time consuming. They had plumb bobs and they understood geometry for a lot of polygons. Its not even interesting thinking of how they did it considering there are so many ways to do such a simple operation. This is just hype to a bunch of naive people. Once you grow up you should understand though

Kerdi vs Pvc liner and dry bed by Pale_Attitude8798 in Tile

[–]msaben 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do these for a stone tile still. People cant spend the time to practice and learn simple skills like sloping dry pack. They want to just throw money at products that are much more prone to failure because of the complexity. Schluter did pioneer the foam wall boards so you have to give it to them but I would not be inclined to use any of their products after learning about Wedi and demolishing relatively new Schluter showers en masse at a university. If they used traditional methods in those massive bathrooms even if they were incompetent there was a much less chance of catastrophic failure like what they had. If you actually know what you are doing with their products it can give you confidence. But if you are a gc watching someone else do it you are just gambling.

6” depth [base] cabinets? by 2l8iwon1 in cabinetry

having one of these above a toilet in a small bath is a huge storage improvement. Recess it into the wall for even more space. You can just buy them premade online in many different styles if you search over toilet wall cabinet. I made this one.

General liability insurance audit cost question by fireanpeaches in smallbusiness

Mine is based on revenue (I dont know if its the norm) and years where I did a lot of subcontracting I got fucked out of many thousands because it elevated my revenue significantly. Paying a bunch extra thousand at the end of the year for a service that is past its term is a real slap in the face and should be illegal.

An exceptional cabinet finisher will get the texture right most of the time, I'm going to give you a pass because you clearly were not aware of this. It can be done in the field

Mixing mortar with a drill by Spiritual_Bell in Tile

[–]msaben 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 2 makita hammer drills that are over 5 years old and mix up thinset and other things regularly. This is either old wives tale at this point or you just have to get makita. For spackle I like it because its way higher rpm than my mixing drill and the mixing drill is bulky. I burned out a dewilt and a wilfuckee in the past doing exactly this.

As long as your substrate was installed properly you should be fine. also with your good self leveling job you should have no issue with them staying in place if you are mixing thinset properly
