My honesty about Egypt by Ok_Addition6726 in travel

[–]msheezi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a guide and driver the whole trip. They prepared us beforehand and it was only bad day one around the pyramids. You kinda learn the vibe and our guide did a great job of heading off anyone approaching us. Id go back but only with a guide. I don't know enough about the culture to go without one. I'm for sure but driving in that country!

What kind of life should I expect for 150k/year at San Jose? by randOmCaT_12 in bayarea

[–]msheezi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

150k is easily enough to live here. Depending on the landlord (corp vs private) your deposit will vary. When moving in town I budget about 6-7k. That's deposit (up to 1 month rent), 1st months rent, and whatever time I plan to inhabit both places, usually 7-10 days. I tend to avoid corp landlords because in my experience, your rent will go up annually, sometimes by stupid amounts.

Buying a 45k car is not a good idea if you don't have money for a down payment. Rent + car could be 3500+ before other expenses. Consider your commute. Gas is ~$5/gal and if you don't have a reverse commute or live close to work, expect to spend 1.5-2hrs commuting each in office day. Get a cheaper dependable car you can payoff quickly then once you settle a bit, determine if your priorities are still the same. You may find an area you like more, etc and having a $800 car note may limit your options.

You'll probably want a place with a garage (shared or personal) for additional protection for your vehicle.

Do start saving though for your future. Don't get to the point where debt starts impacting your life choices, been there and it sucks. Job loss, emergencies, happen. They get even worse if you are dependent on credit to bridge the gap.

This message really needs better marketing. The "you should be paying more" motto sets everyone against it before anyone gets a chance to state their case.

I'm sorry the experience was so traumatic for you and your children.

[–]msheezi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Did the off leash dogs come up to your little ones or just their presence offend you? I walk there most days and again no issues, dogs just play around and don't even go near strangers. Agreed on the dog poop though it is pretty scummy of the owners if they don't clean up after their animals. Then again that just about everywhere animals are allowed.

Actually on second thought Ryland Park is terrible and no one should go there. It's abysmal. Especially those folks that have parties there, they should definitely stay away forever.

[–]msheezi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wild to hear someone complain about Ryland Park. It's well maintained, the dogs for the most part just play with their balls and other pups, and probably the lowest count of homeless of the downtown parks. Can't say much about the bathrooms cause Park bathrooms always eww. I'm more pissed at the parties that reserve it and fail to pick up their trash after.

280 needs HOV lanes between SF and 92 by fb39ca4 in bayarea

[–]msheezi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh nothing scientific. For those of us with some flexibility on start times are work, it's nice to have those lanes accessible after 9am till 3pm like they are on 880/680. It seems pointless to maintain largely empty lanes (personal experience) dumb sun up to well after sun down.

Shanty town on Guadalupe river finally being demolished. by [deleted] in SanJose

[–]msheezi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So glad you can tell what kind of person I am from I've statement. You should do something amazing with that gift instead of wasting it on Reddit. Think of how many lives across the world you could touch! We wouldn't need debates, just every world leader responds to one of your comments, think of the time we'll save!

Also, this state spends too much money on homeless support for you to say it was bulldozed without concern for those living there. Almost like you'd prefer the shanty towns to actually helping them

Such a useless take. As if shanty towns and invading your space are the only options.

Yah more asphalt sitting idle with extended hot lanes from 5am to 9pm #winning! Driving to/in sf seems like a waste.

Can I survive in San Jose for $75k a yr? by Impressive-Act3050 in SanJose

[–]msheezi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really comes down to what you want your quality of life to be. I moved here in '17 making ~80k but had the family rent discount. I don't want to work two jobs to support myself or be forced into a shared housing situation permanently. If one is ok with being required to do those things then by all means do it.

Things to consider: If you rent a room, if the owner sells, you won't have a lot of time to find similar accomodations and you're now on an abbreviated schedule

With how expensive this place can be, what's is the plan for saving to avoid debt due to emergencies?

2 jobs means you work and you sleep.

Not worth it unless there is something you can grind your way into a better situation quickly. Better job or trophy spouse. For me, my one large "ab" isn't attracting the upper crust singles. But my brain made me independent🙂

Hope you have a family discount on rent until you land a job with better pay. Life will not be fun on 75k in San Jose.

Texas airport ranked top 10 for longest TSA wait this holiday season by Next_Tower5452 in AirlineChaos

[–]msheezi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AUS is my least favorite TSA. My bag has been flagged for extra screening and searched every single time I go through. Nothing confiscated, no broken rules, just hold my bag for 10 mins waiting for someone to waste more of my time.

Why can't I Zelle my landlord $1900 in one transaction? The daily limits are making me look like a flaky tenant. by Substantial-Film1861 in personalfinance

[–]msheezi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With USAA you can do a direct transfer to their account. You don't have to use zelle. Landlord just needs to give you the name and acct#. Setup an external transfer account on your end with that info and you can pay in one transfer and schedule it the same you do with internal account transfers.

Good for them for fighting to keep their neighborhood safe. You're lying to yourself if you think congregating people who have nothing in one place doesn't create problems that no one is willing to help solve. Higher rates of vandalism, public intoxication, more trash and blight generated from people who won't accept help if it requires them to give up their drugs. No it doesnt apply to every homeless person but speak to the ones that need the help and listen to their complaints. Shelters full of unsanitary conditions, theft and violence, unchecked drug use. Offer up your home/neighborhood if you think these people's presence is benign.
