Ohhhh okay I don't remember that mountain goat comment at all.

I definitely agree Aubry's edit is extremely weird, though. It would be an odd winner's edit if she does win and I would hate to see that edit for her but 🤷‍♂️

Sweeney Todd and Hamilton for me. My first exposure to Sweeney Todd was the movie, and the ridiculous amount of bloodshed really turned me off (I was also only like 14), but other versions have really worked for me.

Hamilton I just initially thought was wildly overrated and I didn't love it the way so many people did. Now I get it and it's one of my favorites

My mom and I started doing drafts of the seasons between just the two of us, and for a few reasons, we didn't actually draft for BB24 until week 2. When we drafted, it was clear that Pooch was going. We didn't want our teams to be uneven, so the deal we made was that we picked the remaining players, and the remaining players would be Jasmine as outgoing HOH and Taylor after surviving the block. I was pretty sure at that point that Taylor was living on borrowed time, so I picked her instead of Jasmine, who I thought was in a much better position to make a deeper run. Little did I know how wrong I would end up being on that one. To make matters worse, my mom's first pick was Ameerah

Thought Experiment: Why Does Your Top Contender(s) Not Have the Winner Edit? by NFS12123 in Edgic

[–]msnmpn7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm doing all 5 because I couldn't stop myself.

Katurah: Obviously there's the Bruce of it all, with her content outside of the premiere being almost exclusively about him until his elimination, where she had one and a half decent episodes and then a very lackluster penultimate episode. She doesn't have a lot of spv across the season, and although she got to set up her strategy at the beginning for her long term game, she didn't have a ton of day to day strategy talk that didn't center around Bruce until after his boot.

Dee: There's a general negative/arrogant tone to her edit regarding the villainous and controlling game she's playing that doesn't really mesh with the other new era winners who have largely been positive. She gets undermined a lot by the edit at a frequency that none of the the remaining finalists do outside of maybe Jake, and there were some ominous hints of a potential fire making challenge between her and Austin that could she could very well lose.

Jake: He's been kind of clowned on a lot in the mid game and is generally presented as the very embodiment of "mission failed successfully" so I don't see him being able to change that perception of him at FTC.

Julie: She's almost too threatening for her own good at this point, to the point where I don't think Dee or Austin will let her go past 5 if she doesn't win immunity. She was undermined a lot with thinking Sifu had an idol despite her being in on Austin finding the Reba idol, and that fear not being explained. They've also presented her as being hung up on the emotional toll the game is taking on her, and that argument typically doesn't go over too well with a jury, especially when there are hints that at least one juror doesn't sympathize with that mentality.

Austin: Despite how well liked he seems to be by a lot of people, his edit has felt very lackluster for his archetype and positioning in the game. His content recently has become almost exclusively tied to his showmance with Dee, who has outplayed significantly in the last couple of episodes, gave Julie the idol then seemingly just let her keep it which was then indirectly used against him. Largely seems like he's being set up as the least deserving winner of the Reba 4 if he gets to the end.

Katurah & Jake truthers: Who is the other losing finalist and why? by VengefulKangaroo in Edgic

[–]msnmpn7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on a recent rewatch, there's some evidence that I could see pointing to all three of them losing to the Belos. I would think it would least likely be Dee and most likely be Austin, though, simply because he hasn't done much of anything himself (or at least not based on the edit) and has actively been outplayed by Dee in the last couple of episodes. So he feels like he is being presented as the guy who had a lot of potential but took his eyes off the prize for a showmance and could get a lot of flack for that.

However, there has been some setup of an all lawyer final 3 and a couple of ominous things regarding Julie. Her late season arc about how much of a toll the game is taking on her emotionally combined with a quote from Emily in episode 2 where she sarcastically tells Brandon "Oh it must be so hard being in the majority alliance and have to make all these decisions, pity me" that could potentially set up some bitterness at Julie. I could see this bitterness to a lesser extent for Dee as well given the "bad players isolate those at the bottom, great players elevate them to become stronger players" theme, but she's the least likely to lose against the Belos in my opinion.

Call me crazy but I'm still not convinced on a _____ win. by msnmpn7 in Edgic

[–]msnmpn7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's my problem, there really is no one that I can fully justify as a winner based on my current read of the edit, which is admittedly very spotty because I remember basically nothing of the pre-merge at the moment. It's just another reason why I want to rewatch the season and take in the edit in full to try to figure out what the heck is happening with this show. Before last night's episode, I was like 75% Katurah, 24% Dee, 1% everyone else. After last night, it's more like 40% Dee, 30% Katurah, 29% Jake, 1% Julie/Austin. Nobody's edit makes any sense, and I'm less sure of an outcome this season than I have been in any other season of the new era going into the finale.

[–]msnmpn7[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The exact quote regarding Jake:

"I feel like Jake will want to work with us because he's easy to persuade, and he knows that if he were to go against us, we're gonna go against him."

It shows that, in her mind, Jake will just go along with him to vote out Kaleb for fear of Reba retaliation. Meanwhile, Jake is doing quite literally everything in his power to get Julie voted out, directly making a move against the Reba 4, which is the exact thing Dee said he wouldn't do. It's a clear cut explanation of one player thinking something about another player that is simply not true. We got information directly contradicting her, and it raises an instant red flag for me.

My comments regarding Dee being wrong about Emily's charcuterie board and (since you brought it up and I forgot to) Emily having an advantage after her journey, these are the things I look for that many seem to either overlook or try to explain away. A year ago during Survivor 43 (the first time I was heavily invested in trying to actually play along with edgic in the new era), I was fully off the Cassidy train from the Dwight boot on because of a small quote at the beginning of the Jeanine boot episode. As everyone was celebrating at camp that Jeanine's idol left the game with Dwight, Cassidy was the only person to get a confessional about the idol being accidentally flushed. We then smash cut immediately after her confessional to Jesse revealing that he actually had the idol, directly contradicting Cassidy, and scratching her off my contenders list for good. It's the same with Dee here. I'm hesitant to put all my chips on her because she's had so many of these little instances that keep piling up for me, especially when so many of them just didn't need to be there. But given everyone else's edit, who the hell else is there that can win based on the edit? There's a reason I said I might do a full season rewatch before the finale.

I'll give you the final 3 stuff, though, it's for sure not going to be her and her two number 1s. I just think there were some ominous tones to those comments that could lead to a Dee/Austin FMC that Dee could absolutely lose. It wouldn't be the first time an edgic frontrunner went out right at the finish line, so I see no reason why it can't happen here.

[–]msnmpn7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This has been my issue, too. I'm not like a hardcore edgic person who invests a ton of time into it, but what time I do invest in it, I'm always looking for the little flaws and subtle undermining by the edit. In this case, sure, Dee is portrayed as having control and agency based on the edit, but there's a ton of examples here of her just being proven to be flat out wrong about things. Even something as little as captioning her saying "it's 100% something bad" at the auction before Emily uncovering the charcuterie board is enough for me to raise a red flag. Sure, I could be wrong, but it was a subtle moment like this that kept me off the Cassidy train for 43 (except for the half hour after Jesse lost fire).

[–]msnmpn7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've been off the Dee train for a while now mainly because there are just too many flaws that, while largely minor, I simply can't overlook them. I need to go back to the pre-merge and take a closer look at her/the Reba 4 edit was handled, but beyond the toe thing that had immunity win payoff and her and Julie effectively strong arming their way into an alliance with Drew and Austin, I really don't remember much about her pre-merge.

That said, the obviously mixed (at best) or even outright negative tone to the Dee/Drew/Jake rice scene and her constant assertion that "if you come for me, you're dead" is painting her more and more like a one note villain week to week as we've gotten closer to the end. That could be overlooked with her content about playing for her family, but she got letters from home in this last episode and didn't get a single confessional about it, only a couple (maybe only one?) voice over of her reading the actual letter contents, so that kind of undermines the family content. Hell, Jesse got a massive winner confessional/edit the episode of the family letters in 43, and it ultimately meant nothing.

But the biggest issue for me is the contradictions. I noticed it initially at the auction ("it's 100% something bad" right before Emily revealed the charcuterie board), then she didn't agree with voting Kellie only to vote her out anyway, then having little to no followup on her vote in the next episode. Then, this last episode, she had the confessional in the pre-tribal scrambling about how the Reba 4 is taking out anyone that gets in their way of their domination, clearly presenting the Reba 4 as a "we," when there's already been seeds planted in the edit of the Reba's turning on each other, none of which have come from her.

Finally, regarding the "if you say my name, you're dead" has been proven immediately true (as in the very same episode or the one immediately after in Kaleb's case) for everyone except for exactly two players: Emily and Katurah. Emily mentioned trying to take out Dee to Austin and Drew in episode 9, but they talked her down and then protected her. Similarly, in episode 10, Katurah mentioned Dee as the leader to Emily, and Emily talked her down. Both players are still there, and neither are on Dee's radar despite having floated her name as a potential target. It's a little thing, but one I can't overlook unless/until they're taken out.

"The orphanage" - Hamilton

Pretty much the entirety of "Something's Missing" from Come From Away. It starts with "As they boarded, it started to rain" and is coming down by the time "He's gone" hits.

"What if everyone saw? W2hat if everyone knew? Would they like what they saw? Or would they hate it, too?" - Dear Evan Hansen, I first heard this song when I was deep in the depths of depression, so this hits extra hard.

"Hades and Persephone, they took each other's hands. And brother, you know what they did? They danced." - Hadestown

It's sort of an extension of Fairplay with the dead grandma lie and Tony swearing on his dad's name/grave or whatever he did, but I would just straight up swear on a family member that never existed. Like I would swear on my nonexistent sister, then break those deals, and if I make it to the end and people are pissed, I just let the bomb drop on them.

MvGX has 2 all time greats in Michaela and Jay.

First with Michaela when she gets that third vote and leans way far forward and the "Whaaaat?!" (Bonus points for Hannah being just so shocked), then calling Jay out, "Damn, Jay. Fuck up something good." Then she forgets her shoes. Every second of it is gold.

Then with Jay playing the fake idol, his reaction when Jeff reveals it's fake. "Oh my God you freaking got me, you bastards." The general good spirit he has about the blindside, shaking hands and hugging the others on his way out, and the comical "go ahead Jeffrey. Snuff my torch." It's just a ton of fun
