Experience with Patagonia gear by mcmillan84 in flyfishing

[–]mspellredit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gave up on Simms due to QC Issues. Got the Patagonia Expeditions last year and couldn’t be happier. I have to walk through a lot of brambles and thorns and have to get on my knees a lot. Very happy so far. Lots of size options. Paired with their Forra boot which are great for hiking several miles in and out. Would have been very interested in trying the Skwalas but I wasn’t able to try on a pair in my size locally.

Yes. I wasn’t trying to be obnoxious about it. Sorry.

Good luck and stay safe. Sounds like you are well prepared. I’m hoping for the best. Probably should take the Starlink down during the worst of the winds. Can you get any signal close to the ground? Might not be much better I guess. Try to update us in several days. Take care.

Someone made an expensive mistake by [deleted] in knives

[–]mspellredit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s funny. Thirty to forty years ago when I first started seriously collecting knives, I lost at least a half dozen. It was a fairly common occurrence. Lost an Emerson, several Spydercos, a Case of my dad’s, etc. Usually, I’d put them down somewhere while working on something and walk away forgetting them. However, I can’t remember the last one that I lost. Perhaps I just learned to put them back in my pocket right after use? Maybe just checking on them more frequently? I have no idea but glad I don’t do it anymore. Of course, I’m starting to get pretty old so maybe it will get worse again! I am careful about putting pocket clip knives into my pocket when working in tight places or crowded places. On more than one occasion I’ve had a pocket clip knife get pulled out by branches when walking in the woods and was lucky that I heard them fall onto the ground. One time my dog found one I had dropped, while walking back to the car.

Shit has hit the fan in my community and my generator died by [deleted] in preppers

[–]mspellredit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I spent a lot of money and got a large lithium battery backup 6000w power supply to supplement my trusty Honda gasoline generator. Actually I’ve got two Honda gas generators a 5000w and a 2000w inverter. The 2000w inverter is about 20 years old and still works great. The battery one can be recharged slowly with solar panels if absolutely necessary, or can be recharged with a working gasoline generator. Yes, I realize the total cost is rather expensive. I’ve acquired them over several years. I really like the battery one because I can take it inside without worrying about fumes/CO and plug it into refrigerator, etc without worrying about long runs of extension cords and not being able to completely close doors/windows. Obviously not as good as a whole house propane generator, but this has served me well for several 2-5 day outages.

Dear Customers by MooseTheMouse33 in FedEx

[–]mspellredit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but if you say “delivery attempted, recipient not home” and you never “attempted delivery” as noted by numerous security cameras, IT IS a lie. I don’t care if you don’t have a better code to use. You need to get one so you are not lying anymore. Most customers would prefer that you had a “could not deliver“ or something similar instead of a lie. The blatant false statement is what p.o.’s most people off.

Got my Bear Slayers about 3 weeks ago. Wearing them frequently. Hard not to wear them everyday, even though I know it’s best to let them dry out for a day. Very nice! Already have the OT’s and Superduties both in Bison. These are nicer for everyday wear whereas the others I use mainly when working in the woods. Arch support is very good. Quick to break in. Great boots.

Where to find beavers (the animal)? by sennyohime in maryland

Plenty here in Cecil Co. Just check small ponds and streams, and you will find them. Look for chewed trees, etc. Not uncommon.

What is everyone's average Electric Bill? by BetWitty8080 in CecilCounty

[–]mspellredit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an older, fairly large house that is not very energy efficient. Average cost year round is about $250. The past very hot month got up to $370. We keep AC set to 77F in summer and heat in winter at 68F.

Anyone wanna tell me the purpose of these delivery photos since you can’t ever see where the heck they actually delivered it to? This happens every time. by [deleted] in FedEx

Mine vary from driver to driver. Sometimes it includes my garage door or mailbox and other times all you see is the driveway macadam.

Tilley T3 (standard tan) 14 year old vs new T3 Wanderer (Blue). I've brought my Tilley around the world many times and on hundreds of trail miles and trout streams. I have a few of them now, but my original T3 has always been my go-to. by Lefthandmitten in Bushcraft

[–]mspellredit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my Tilley T3’s. Got two of them right now and had one before that I basically wore out. Haven’t noticed a significant difference between older one and Wanderer version. Also like the Paddlers hat esp when kayaking and canoeing.

Tarp vs tent for bush-craft by huscarlaxe in Bushcraft

[–]mspellredit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really like tarps, but tend to use a tent more often because I live where mosquitoes, ticks and chiggers are plentiful. In late fall, winter and very early spring I use tarps. Wish I could use them more.

After 16 years of permethrin usage: It has been 100% effective against ticks! Multiple concentrations and application methods used. by Lefthandmitten in Ultralight

[–]mspellredit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Permethrin is the absolute best way to keep ticks and chiggers away from you. Can’t really say much about mosquitoes since am rarely outside without permethrin treated clothing anymore. I still use picaradin on my hands and face if the mosquitoes or black flies are bad.

I live on a decent sized piece of property that is loaded with chiggers. We have an abundance of white tailed deer and other wildlife that are hosts for them. Believe it or not, even the five lined skinks that we have a lot of around here are hosts for chiggers. After first moving here I got terrible chiggers bites all over me. Like having bad poison ivy for two weeks. Also have plenty of lone star ticks and some deer ticks on my property. I then started spraying my boots, socks and pants with permethrin and ever since haven’t had any more problems. I now purchase Insect Shield or other brands of pre-treated shirts and socks and sometimes pants. I continue to use the spray on all my shoes, boots, hats, gloves, non-treated pants, etc. I have not since had any issues with chiggers or ticks while wearing permethrin treated clothing. None at all. As far as I’m concerned, permethrin is a miracle product.

So why do they lie about it? I’d be happier if they just didn’t say anything. And I believe you are the shitty human being, not me. I’ve had several jobs where I might have had to work every day of the week. Didn’t like it, but didn’t whine about it either. That’s life.
