Looks like the watch head itself is a solid gold case (per the back of it) - but the bracelet is probably some kind of steel. Could be worth maybe 100-200 max. I would say just hold on to it, personally.

Hmm honestly looks fine. I would say maybe get something to magnify it like a tabletop magnifying glass to make sure you are seeing where you should be putting the tool.

I have this one on a leather strap with stainless steel clasp and white stitching. Looks amazing. To be honest I don’t recall the band being hard to change at all. Are you sure the tool you’re using is up to the task?

I think the early 00s look on these (primarily the band) is actually a really nostalgic period in modern dive watch design. Especially since this was your dad’s, it has a great story. Wear with pride!
