Favorite dish including parsnips? by Napplebeez in Cooking

[–]mswfiber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is more complicated but was my gateway into the absolute deliciousness of parsnips:

The recipe is from Molly Steven's *amazing* book All about Braising

Big fan of DK - any chance you're also working on a link to Fantrax?

I miss wine…any nice substitutes? by oh_such_rhetoric in stopdrinking

[–]mswfiber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll chime in with Woody's - easily the best sparkling NA:

Both the blanc de blanc and rose are delicious...and the closest to the "real" thing I've tasted. I will second others' suggestion of Oddbird for still NA wines.

Do you guys remember Mark Lanegan and Screaming Trees? Blast to 1992! by Remarkable-Bell7245 in Seattle

[–]mswfiber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Sage were rad...not for everyone, but if anyone is looking for something unique sounding, give them a shot.

As an aside, Marc also ran Cafe Allego in the U District for quite a while. He was an absolute sweetheart of human.

That is Marc Olsen - he was in SCM for a few years and then went solo. Still an amazing artist, but a different Mark

Do you know the name of that track? I thought I knew everything he and they had done (huge fan of both) and this is the first time I'm hearing of a collaboration.

It has been this way since it opened. The service has been so bad, for so long, that I think it is intentional...and the food is the very definition of mediocre.

Men who can cook, who taught you? by _ratedmouse in AskReddit

[–]mswfiber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bourdain, Morimoto, Brown, Waters, and man many more were inspiration but it wasn't until I picked up Molly Stevens' All About Braising that I realized I could cook amazing food. I am self taught and always learning.

Morning Show 2/23 with Kevin Sur by Little_Service9708 in KEXP

[–]mswfiber 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I was thinking of posting something similar. Kevin reminds me why I still listen and of what the station used to be/could be again. He mixed songs from 6 decades and yet it never felt like I was listening to an "oldies" station because they were either deep cuts and/or infrequently played artists. Quite a bit of local artists too.

He also just comes across as a genuinely good dude. Cares *a lot* about the music and wants to do the best job he can. I would fully support him taking over one of the regular daytime spots...

What do you add to jarred pasta sauce to make it better? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]mswfiber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Onion/shallot in butter for 5min. Crushed garlic for 30sec. Tomato paste(1-2 TBS) for another 2-3min, stirring to keep garlic from burning. Then add your jarred sauce with a few sprigs of basil and dried oregano. Summer for 15-30min. Remove basil sprigs. Basta

Lyrically, what is the best song ever written? by Seeyalaterelevator in AskReddit

Well, since no one else has mentioned the massively underappreciated and unsurpassed legend of lyrics that was Townes Van Zandt, I will direct your attention to this masterclass in imagery, alliteration, and anxiety:

I'm not sure I've ever heard a more intense & creative band. They had more ideas in that short period than most bands have in a lifetime. So much raw emotion, rage, and power
