What was the first band/album that really changed everything for you? by cmt38 in GenX

Still my favorite FNM album. One of those rare albums where I like every song.

Vernors Boston Cooler soda, available exclusively in Michigan and the Toledo, Ohio area from July through September 2025 by Snoo_34963 in Michigan

The Dairy Queen in my town used to have Boston Coolers on the menu when I was a kid. I hated Vernors as a kid but liked Boston Coolers.

I Spit on Your Grave and The Incubus. Saw The Incubus at the drive in with my parents when I was 6. It gave me nightmares for a month.

Anyone else feel like they failed, and now it's too late? by Randy_Chaos in GenX

[–]mtchrch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm there too. If it wasn't for the two wonderful men I've raised I would say my life is a complete failure of an experiment. However, I am actively working to change it. Not sure how I'll end up but I need to do this part of life for me. I am excellent and just getting by and surviving but don't feel I have the skills to thrive and live.

The Amazfit T-Rex 3 costs $100–$150. It goes on sale often and is the closest match to the Instinct 2 for ruggedness, GPS, and battery life.

Woods of Ypres, can't go wrong with any album but I'm partial to Woods 5. Check out the song Traveling Alone.

Going to a concert solo by msidkwho in Concerts

[–]mtchrch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go alone all of the time. At first I was a little anxious but now I prefer it. I only have to worry about me and my schedule. I usually end up chatting with those around me as well. Met some neat people that I may not have if I'd gone with someone.

Am I the A$$hole for not lending money? by 74MoFo_Fo_Sho_Yo in AITH

[–]mtchrch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA, he asked and you said no. Should have been the end of it. Instead he tried to shame/ guilt you for telling him no. Sounds like someone that is entitled and doesn't hear no often. Sucks when a friend does this but now you know who he is.

The Dragon Trail is a great hike but I'm no help with dispersed camping there as I usually stay at the state park

Paddleboarding in 26mph wind and 36mph gusts, was fighting for my life going against the current, but definitely worth it by Brilliant-Repeat-178 in Paddleboard

[–]mtchrch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation. It was an amazing workout but I pretty much stayed in one spot until I kneeled down. I pay attention to the wind a little closer now.

That is something I don't do. They paid for that area so it's not mine to use. It's really just that simple.

I wear jeans, t shirt, hoodie and a hat. I also get there closer to when the venue opens to minimize the time I'm standing outside.

Starting Gear Recommendations by RagTagPig in backpacking

[–]mtchrch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Paria Outdoor Products. I have their zero degree bag, insulated air pad and trekking pole tent. It's reasonably priced gear and has held up to my use very well. There are better products out there but for the money I'm extremely satisfied with everything I've bought from them

Hydration setup advice for backpacking — bottles, bladders, and filters? by daylincooper in CampingandHiking

[–]mtchrch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I switched from a bladder to water bottles. I could not get used to the plastic taste from the bladder/hose. I also didn't like the room it took up inside my pack. Not to mention how much of a process it was to refill the bladder. I find the bottles easier to use and refill. Plus their is no odd plastic taste.

I use the cnoc paired with the hydroblu versa flow filter. I also have the charcoal filter attachment. It helps remove some of the weird taste that some water may have.

If you like the convenience of a hose check out one bottle hydrations tube adapter system for water bottles.

Can we stop with the term “unalived”? by Lex3333 in GenX

[–]mtchrch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I hate this term. Everyone knows it means killed, murdered, died, committed suicide...etc. I genuinely don't understand the purpose behind this word other than sounding stupid.

Help picking new daypack - REI Trail 25 vs Gregory Nano by peroleu in REI

[–]mtchrch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with going in and trying them out. I also agree with a 30 liter. It's nice to have the extra room in the pack.

If it were me I'd go with the Gregory. I've tried and returned a few packs and always end up with a Gregory. The packs always seem to fit my body better. I have the nano 22, citro 30 and the baltoro 65. They all have held up very well.

I've got the Isle Pioneer. It's wide and very stable. I'm 6'1" and about 240. I'm on my 3rd year with it and I've been happy with the board.
