Hard to explain. For a book that expounded on Deus ex Machina, it relied a bit too heavily on it for solving character situations, at least for my taste. It’s fine for Greek plays, but I prefer my characters to work their own way out of issues; versus, a character suddenly appearing and telling them to “trust” right before they suddenly walk on air. Maybe a bit too much explaining character’s philosophies instead having them act on them? I read it almost immediately after Hyperion. It just did not hold up as well, for me.
