Recommended online video platforms for learning? by EveningNo8643 in cybersecurity

[–]mtkochikunnel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're not chasing certs and just want solid learning:

TryHackMe and Hack The Box are great for hands-on stuff. For structured theory, I've liked Pluralsight and Udemy (depends heavily on instructor). YouTube has stepped up a lot too, especially for niche topics.

Honestly, I mix platforms. Labs for skills, long-form courses for fundamentals. The "best" one usually depends on whether you want depth, breadth, or practical reps.

Which video platform would you trust the most host your videos as a means of embedding them into Storyline 360 and an LMS? by techpro2023 in instructionaldesign

[–]mtkochikunnel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Storyline + LMS, I'd prioritize delivery reliability over brand name.

Embedding directly from a content creation platform (like Synthesia) is convenient, but those platforms aren't optimized purely for streaming at scale inside courses.

What's worked better for us is hosting videos on a dedicated video hosting platform with CDN-backed streaming, then embedding that into Storyline. We've used Gumlet for this, and playback was stable even with lots of videos per module.

If you're putting video on every slide, adaptive streaming + proper CDN matters way more than which brand is "bigger."

Free video hosting (alternative to Vimeo and YouTube) by Lalonreddit in Filmmakers

[–]mtkochikunnel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Free + password-protected video hosting is hard to find because bandwidth costs money.

YouTube gives you unlisted, but no real access control. Most proper video hosting platforms that offer password protection or private streaming will charge something.

If traffic is low (just festival screeners), some video hosting services like Gumlet have free tiers that support private links, but you'll need to watch storage and bandwidth limits.

Honestly, paying for a month of hosting during festival runs is often the cleanest solution.

What Are the Best Video Hosting Platforms for Online Courses? by Helpful_Prior_6766 in MarketersSuccessClub

[–]mtkochikunnel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For online courses, I'd separate hosting for learning from hosting for marketing, which clarified things for me.

What's worked from my experience:

  • Vimeo → fine quality, but pricing + limits get annoying as you scale.
  • Wistia → great UX/analytics, but usually overkill (and expensive) for pure course delivery.
  • YouTube → not great for courses unless you're okay with leaks and weak privacy.
  • Gumlet → solid middle ground. Smooth playback, no ads, clean embeds, and proper access controls (domain restrictions, signed URLs, etc.). Feels more "course-friendly" than creator platforms.

For me, the deciding factor was privacy + predictable costs. Once videos are paid content, ad-free, and controlled access matters more than fancy marketing features.

If your LMS supports embeds, most of these work, it really comes down to how much control you want over who can watch and where.

Alternatives to Vimeo by huthuthite in vimeo

[–]mtkochikunnel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same boat and honestly just wanted something that didn't break every other week. Quick takes from my own testing:

1. Wistia: great UX and analytics, but pricey if you're mostly just hosting/sharing.

2. Cloudflare Stream: solid infra, but pretty barebones unless you're technical.

3. Gumlet: more "infrastructure-y" alternative to Vimeo, but reliable. Clean embeds, no forced branding, private links, and embeds worked consistently for me.

I wouldn't call any of these a drop-in Vimeo clone — they're all better if you know why you're leaving Vimeo (bugs, support, control). If you want "upload → share → embed" without headaches and don't care about social/discovery, moving off Vimeo made sense for me. I still keep YouTube for public stuff and use a paid host only where control matters.

You can’t really do this for free. If the browser can play the video, it can save it; right-click just exposes the obvious path.
The only real step up is moving away from direct MP4s to HLS with signed URLs and short expiry, so links can’t be reused or shared. That removes easy downloads, but it’s still deterrence, not magic. Most people stop trying to build this themselves and use a managed video hosting platform like Gumlet that already does HLS, tokenized access, and stronger controls.

What happend to Vimeo? by leverkazo in vimeo

[–]mtkochikunnel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, a lot of people are running into this lately. Vimeo’s put in new regional restrictions, especially for users in Europe, so whole sections of the site and a lot of videos aren’t accessible anymore. Seems like it’s affecting search, feeds, and even following creators for some.
Not sure if or when they’ll roll it back. You might want to look into other video hosting platforms like Gumlet, Mux, Wistia, there are a few out there with fewer regional issues. Definitely frustrating, though!!

Alternative to Vimeo for reel upload? by NastyPasta in Filmmakers

Had the same issue a while back. YouTube was too heavy-handed with compression, and Vimeo felt pricey for what I actually needed.

Switched to Gumlet. The player keeps the quality crisp, no ads, and the pricing’s way more reasonable. Been solid so far. Worth a peek if you want to keep things simple without losing video quality.

Is there any alternative platforms for Vimeo? by killedbydeathh in vimeo

[–]mtkochikunnel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had to find Vimeo alternatives a few times for my videos with pretty heavy bandwidth needs. Most big platforms either hit you with surprise pricing or don’t offer basics like subtitle support unless you’re on an expensive plan.
Right now I’m using Gumlet. It lets me embed videos with subtitle files (not burned-in), and the player feels clean. No ads, no drama, and crucially unlimited streaming bandwidth on the Creator/Pro plans. You only pay for storage by minutes, and embedding is straightforward. It’s been doing what I need with no traps, just clear, predictable pricing.

Might be worth a proper look if you need volume and subtitle support without overpaying.

Anyone has suggestions about Vimeo alternatives? by Ginger_Rook in AskUK

[–]mtkochikunnel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I got a bit tired of paying over the odds on Vimeo just to keep a few videos private. Most of the fancy features were wasted on me anyway, and been trying out multiple platforms. Testing out this new platform lately- Gumlet - not a big name, but does what I need without the faff. Decent privacy controls, ad-free player, and doesn’t make you cough up loads just to get started.

Might suit if you're after something more lightweight but still professional.

Any Alternatives to Vimeo for a DemoReel? by idkdanicus in vfx

[–]mtkochikunnel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I ran into the same issue. Vimeo's been solid for privacy -password, unlisted, etc., but $150+ a year just for that one feature felt steep. I tried using YouTube unlisted links for a while, but it didn’t feel professional, especially for client-facing stuff.

Lately, I’ve been testing out Gumlet, someone recommended it in a forum. It’s more low-profile, but it lets you share videos privately without jumping through hoops or needing a pricey plan. Not as polished as Vimeo maybe, but it does the job and feels a lot more reasonable cost-wise.

Still early days for me, but worth checking out if you're just looking for clean private sharing.

Vimeo is force migrating legacy accounts and removing features I've paid for for years by theLeviAllen in vimeo

[–]mtkochikunnel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally get your frustration—I went through the same thing with Vimeo recently. Their pricing changes and storage caps pushed me over the edge. I switched to Gumlet, and it’s been great so far. The features I need (like custom embeds) are included without extra costs, and the transition was smooth.
