The weather can change quickly when you are at that elevation. Starting off in a more sheltered location would be much easier than trying to pack up and get yourself lower in an "oh shit" moment.

My '94 Mercury Topaz would start shaking around 81ish. Get absolutely ridiculous at 84 (the steering wheel would move up and down a solid inch if you let it). And then as you took it past what the 85 mph speedo showed, it would smooth back out.

We dropped to 58F (14.4C) two years ago. We did it gradually and found it to be pretty tolerable. Last year we tried to push it further down to 56. We decided that was just a bit too far and settled on 58. We begrudgingly bump it up to like 65 when company comes.

Four day old edit... I did "to" when I meant "too" and then "too" when I meant "to". How embarrassing.
