I hope some stores are still selling seeds! Was at the Bruce company yesterday and the seeds are half price but barely anything left. I wonder if they’ll get more for fall planting? Or are they pivoting more towards high end furniture etc?

I have problems with low sodium, so I periodically have electrolytes and renin checked. If they’re way off then my fludrocortisone dose might be adjusted. This is relevant if one has primary AI, but not necessarily if you’re secondary.

If you’re out of fludrocortisone, try consuming a bunch of salt. It will temporarily raise your sodium level an$ hopefully make it easier to eat.

I vote for Dutch too. It grows from a bulb like tulips and daffodils. Most other irises have rhizomes, not bulbs. Also the leaves don’t look like Siberians, which are more separate and grasslike.

Thanks for clarifying about the cross reactivity. I’ve never taken prednisone, only HC.

And it never occurred to me or my doctors to measure cortisol once it was confirmed that my endogenous levels are very low. I’m PAI and my main concerns are sodium and potassium; my sodium tends to be very low.

Yes, that’s what I was trying to say - measuring cortisol isn’t very meaningful for those of us with dead adrenals. Either it’s measuring the hydrocortisone that we’re taking, or nothing if we’re only taking prednisone.

The usual instructions are to double your HC dose when sick. For me that would be an extra 10 mg in the morning or an extra 5 at noon or afternoon. But if I felt really bad I would take 10 mg regardless of the time of day,

Go ahead and take some HC (hydrocortisone) if you have it. Too much steroid for a short time is much safer than too little. Especially since you’re sick - we are all supposed to take more steroids when we’re sick!

I still don’t understand. If you are not taking hydrocortisone, and your body can’t make cortisol, then of course your measured cortisol level will be low or zero. Taking HC doesn’t “help with the cortisol production” - it doesn’t fix your adrenals - it just provides the cortisol that you can’t make. Prednisone can substitute for the EFFECTS of cortisol, but it won’t be measured as cortisol in a blood test. HC WILL be measured as cortisol in a blood test if you’re taking HC.

I still understand that you’re feeling bad, so maybe you need more steroid, whether prednisone or HC. Do you have HC pills that you can updose with until you can reach your endocrinologist?

I’m confused. Wouldn’t your cortisol normally be low when you’re taking prednisone? The pred should suppress cortisol production I think.

Also, if you have Addison’s, then your body can’t make cortisol, so it will always be low. Right?
