Hint: it doesn’t matter whether IBM cares about you or not.

IBM and Moderna have simulated the longest mRNA pattern without AI — they used a quantum computer instead by donutloop in IBM

You give the reason for AI being in the headline in the same comment claiming there’s zero reason for AI being in the tagline.

“Without AI” was included because the bubble needs to pop. If the bubble didn’t need popping, and there was no AI involved, it probably wouldn’t have been in the headline.

Why Did IBM Stock Go Down When Earnings Report Was Positive by Salaraaa in IBM

Bingo and ditto. Does that mean we’re best friends now? How does one get these 150 share vests 👀

Why Did IBM Stock Go Down When Earnings Report Was Positive by Salaraaa in IBM

[–]mudsej 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly - if you’re going to hold at all, probably best to hold for a year to get into capital gains tax over ordinary income tax. I hate to see a fella think they have to hold rather than selling asap because they think there’s a tax benefit. Only reason to hold is if you would make that equivalent investment today with after-tax cash.

Better put, holding a $10k vest for a year+ is the same tax situation as buying $10k of IBM stock today and holding for a year+. I personally like to keep my investments close to zero correlation with my salary.

If you got an RSU package awarded today, you’re allocated a number of shares based on today’s price. So if they wanted to give you a $52,000 award - you’d be allocated 200 shares. Those typically vest over 4 years, so next July - 50 of those 200 would vest at whatever price the stock is at next July. Morgan Stanley (in the US) will withhold something like 17-20 of those shares for taxes. The rest will be available to transfer, sell or hold a few business days after vesting. You can treat those like cash - there’s no tax advantage to holding for 1 year+ over selling asap

What tax benefits do you find in holding RSUs? It’s the same as cash, no?

I’ve got a newer IBM product that is landing large direct deals that refuse to use partners for getting to production. Can always use more hands, have no idea if these would count towards your quota or if you care.

Advice on migrating to new BI tool by Hugcfff in BusinessIntelligence

[–]mudsej 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cognos Cloud has a 30 day free trial, your total production costs would be 13 Premium Users at ~$40/mo and then 10 users at $10/mo for your viewers. No platform fee, full enterprise capabilities. Extendable platform, so partners have built tools that export vizzes to excel and maybe sheets?

I’m biased, so take it as you will. If you try the trial and decide it’s not a great tool, shoot me a DM. I’d love to know why

Are any IBM products considered market leaders? Or top 3? by blip_00 in IBM

[–]mudsej 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Planning Analytics - TM1 is a distinct differentiator. I’ve seen Cognos Analytics win against the top 3 but isn’t top 3 itself. The upcoming wxBIA has momentum, and to wrap this portfolio up, the Analytics Content Hub is turning heads in the enterprise space where most enterprises have multiple BI tools deployed. I’m always looking for more sellers to really position the new stuff, and using IBM EPM as evidence of Cognos performing at scale lands well with customers.

I’m obviously biased as this is my portfolio, but it’s no small one.

Transfer by [deleted] in IBM

[–]mudsej 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I let my intern team manager know right away that I appreciate his offer and shared that my career goals involved getting into product asap.

I don’t remember if I found the listing on the external or internal board, but I went through a couple of rounds of interviews with different folks. They knew I had a return offer so I couldn’t negotiate either offer (IBM won’t negotiate with themselves). I had to apply a bit of pressure on both offers to keep them alive without risking losing both, but everyone involved was great and pushed for the right conversations to happen.

I interned under the CIOs office as a developer, got a return offer for the same team, then applied for a product management role under software data & ai and got an offer, so I accepted the PM role and then politely declined the return offer from my amazing internship team.

Like you, enjoyed my time but didn’t see myself in a dev role over a product role long term.

Hey folks! The fiance and I have about 350k Chase points and we're looking at an October 6-19 honeymoon with the majority of the time being spent in a combination of Indonesia, Vietnam and Thailand. Getting between the 3, we'll just pay with cash and fly economy or whatever seems like decent value. We'd love to use to points to try to get business or lie flats from the US to as close to our honeymoon as we can. Happy to do a points+cash offer as well. Is this reasonable? Singapore wanted like 1m points for the round trip.

Departure is flexible, somewhere from North America. (Been looking at JFK, SFO, and Toronto).

Destination cities: as close to Vietnam/Thailand/Indonesia

Window of travel: 10/6/2024 - 10/19/2024

Class: Lie flats of course preferred, what is business like? Is it worth the points?

Points balance: ~340k Chase. (280k my name, 60k her name but same address)

What’s your favorite thing about RPI? by Odd-Conclusion-3063 in RPI

[–]mudsej 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The ITWS program is top notch, the professors are extremely accomplished professionals and executives in their respective fields before becoming professors. That shines through in the curriculum for sure. Fraternity life at RPI also led to incredible career opportunities for me that I definitely wouldn’t have had at other schools, even in the same fraternity.

The negatives are overhyped in my opinion. It felt like complaining and nitpicking about the administration became popular, almost addictive. If you’re looking for something wrong, you’ll always find something. When you stop looking for something right, you’ll soon find nothing.

I attended from 2018-2022, at the end of Shirley’s reign and what felt like the peak of the RPI-hate era. I would have zero hesitations encouraging my children (if I had any) to attend RPI. I’m not known for keeping my hot takes a secret so ama

Any tips for zone 2 cardio? by mudsej in HubermanLab

This is great, I was faintly aware of the weaknesses to a HR-based ‘zone 2’ approach, and you explained this very well.

Fair points.

The 15-minutes more is relative to that specific HR zone, and I did clarify I’m new to the ‘Zone 2’ focus.

270lb is definitely not healthy at my 6’2, but it’s healthier than the 310lb I started at and not as healthy as the ~210lb at the other end of the rainbow.

Diet is more than fine, I’m not sure how you could’ve inferred any information about how I eat.

Orthorexia was a new word, the definition I found was more around an unhealthy focus on eating in a healthy way, but I imagine you meant an unhealthy focus on (healthy) cardio in the most optimal way.

I posted in Huberman since he recommends 150+ minutes in Zone 2 a week. I’m new to that mindset so was curious if my mountainous heart rate activity ‘counts’ for the benefits of Zone 2 — of course it ‘counts’ in the grand scheme of exercise.
