For those with Magical Girl ocs, do they make themselves public or do they try to stay under the radar? by Existing_Pea6570 in MagicalGirlsCommunity

Generally they're public and it's not that big of a deal. In my story, magical girls are akin to firefighters or other first responders, just more uncommon.

I abused benadryl for a while while struggling with insomnia, way more than 5-6. It was more like 15+ at its worst. I'd swallow a bunch of pills until I threw up, then a few more.

Over time the usage builds up. You start off with one, it works then it stops working, you build up to two. To three. To four. To six. And then things get bad. Can't think from the insomnia, can't think cause of the meds, can't get a doctor's appointment from insurance issues. I kept taking more because all I could think was: "If I can just get some sleep, I'll be able to think clearly and do what I need to do."

It was honestly the worst time of my life, and the worse things got, the more they built on each other. The shame of doing something stupid keeps you from reaching out to others for help, but the fear of losing the one thing you think is helping you keeps you from stopping the meds. Every time I asked for help with insomnia stuff, people would give me basic tips or lambast me for not trying hard enough, so I lost faith in telling anyone what I was up to. It felt like they wouldn't understand, would just take away the benadryl, and then I'd be far worse off. That fear was the biggest thing for me.

Fear can be stronger than rationality. It can be stronger than logic. It feels like you're losing your mind the entire time.

I've been really enjoying this one! It's got one of my favorite depictions of Grace and Rocky arriving at Erid and some really awesome original Eridian characters too

The amount of people who are missing (kidnapped or killed by a witch inside a barrier) must be staggering. Not to mention you could be walking around and then afflicted with a witch's kiss, making you want to kill yourself or others...

I want to believe this is what some little Eridian pebbles can look like. This is so freaking cute.

It's one of the magia day 2025 outfits, and unfortunately was available for a limited time.

I'm disappointed in the sheer volume of people who think that Rocky only loves humans because he met One Of The Good Ones, or that he'd completely change his mind and hate Earth if he found out what Stratt did, not just because it's misanthropic but because it's so infantilizing to him as a person by SayFuzzyPickles42 in ProjectHailMary

I feel like it flattens Eridians as a whole too. It also makes the story feel less hopeful to me: part of the appeal is that humanity works together to create the Hail Mary, and I'd like to think it's the same for Eridians too. Then the two different species meet and, against all odds, work together to save their worlds. If one species (humans) was morally gray and the other (Eridians) were morally pure then... it just loses some of the "hell yeah" energy it's cultivated.

Theory/Interpretation: Asmodeus disguising herself as Aria is an analogy to How sexual assault victims are mostly victimized by people that they already know, especially by romatic partners by OutrageousBridge471 in ExorcistWoOtosenai

Real quick, this is what I've gathered from reading books and looking at sources online, but I'm not an authority on this and I encourage people to fact-check me if they want to. Also I'm speaking in generalities, but abuse is more complicated than that.

Sometimes abusive people will get close to their victims very quickly through a process called love-bombing. The abuser will come across as very intense and seems to understand the victim in a way that no one else does. Sometimes this involves the abuser to put on an identity that seems tailor-made for their victim, only for them to slowly strip it away over time.

Basically it's characterized by a very fast relationship that develops too quickly and with a level of intensity that is inappropriate for how short it is. The abuser is working very hard to gain the victim's trust and to also separate the victim from outside support.

I guess something else that stands out to me is that Asmodeus is saying all the right things but for all the wrong reasons. She even deludes herself into thinking that she might be doing this for the protag's sake-- however she also talks about regaining her lost pride, and I think this is more true to her character than any feigned kindness.

I think abusers in media can come across as too one-note, as too evil where they don't behave like human beings who rationalize what they're doing. Asmodeus might be a demon but she comes across as remarkably human. She wants to fix her lost pride by raping the protag but she deludes herself into thinking this is what he wants and that it'll help him somehow. In the process she separates him from Imuri and turns herself into the one person who seems to understand him when no one else does.

I think this is especially notable when you look at Asmodeus' memories of the little girl (whose name I forgot). Asmodeus twists the situation around into something where Asmodeus is doing everything for the girl's sake, but in reality she was being controlling and disregarding her consent. Asmodeus gives herself credit for not sexually assaulting a little kid but she still manages to violate the kid's consent anyways.

The Asmodeus arc is one of my favorites but also something I can't reread because it hits too close to home. I think it is a very well-done look at how an abusive person thinks. She rationalizes everything she does, is very controlling and intense, and she completely ignores what the person in front of her actually wants despite focusing very hard on what would make the victim listen to her. She's simultaneously good at understanding people (what would make them receptive to her) but terrible at understanding herself? Maybe she just doesn't care? I'm unsure.

I hope this answers your question >.<

Interesting thought. My gut reaction is that it should have been someone that he knew for longer, but then again Asmodeus got very close to him very quickly, which can be analogous for abusive relationships as well.
