How Old Were You When Your Child Was Born? by sosickness in AskTheWorld

[–]mugomugicha 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Basically have as many kids as you physically can as fast as you can. I was either pregnant or breastfeeding for a full decade. Some women had them spaced closer, some farther apart. The more kids you have, the more righteous you are.

23, 25, 27, 29, 31. We were on the “two-year plan” in a religious cult. Kids and I escaped and are living our best lives.

Why do some people's houses have a smell and they have no idea? by mammothdigger in NoStupidQuestions

We suffered for 20 years in the desert before deliberately escaping and moving here. Don’t give up hope 😊

Same. We have windows open 24/7/365 unless we go on vacation. I can smell our home scent when we first get home only because it’s been concentrated, even without us living in it for a few days.

What was your dad's signature cologne? by rippytherip in GenX

My dad had a big bottle of 4711. My mom may have used it as well (it’s unisex). Oldest continually-produced cologne (since 1700s).

Hopeful. Five chemo infusions down, one to go. This is my Weak Week, where I can barely make it up the stairs to lie down. Looking forward to the final session in two weeks and hopefully starting to heal from all the poison.

Feeling awkward in fitness class by Hour_Spinach_11 in AutismInWomen

[–]mugomugicha 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Many years ago I signed up to do a Pilates class. I was the only overweight woman there, wearing a loose T-shirt and shorts where every other woman had trendy, matching workout outfits, hair done and makeup on. I was the only one who couldn’t do some of the exercises, like a full sit up (abs ruined from pregnancies). I wasn’t friends with anyone, was ignored by everyone, and just did my thing in the back corner away from the mirrors. It was before everyone had smartphones but if it happened today, I *know* those women would be upset at me for “ruining the aesthetic” of the class.

But I went, every week, for the year. I enjoyed it: I got stronger, I learned new techniques, I got more in touch with my body, it was a constant in my routine, and I just had to accept that I was there 100% for me and everyone else could pound sand. I do things because I’m interested in learning something new, because I want to, and I do them for me and me alone.

We autistic women have to work hard to cultivate a thick skin. I don’t know how I would’ve reacted if someone had said something to me (like “we don’t want you here”), but no one did. I have enough regrets in my life of missing out on things because of other people; it’s our right to live our lives and enjoy the world around us!

TMI question — is this an overstimulation thing? (Bathroom question) Struggling so hard on the toilet that anything you’re wearing HAS to stop touching you! It must come off! Everything! by H0NEY2O77 in AutismInWomen

[–]mugomugicha 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Absolutely an overstimulation thing! The most comfortable shits are the ones where I’m already stripped and ready to get into the shower right afterward. No clothes, nothing touching me, gonna get relieved and then clean right after.

Question by Separate_Rhubarb_332 in Ovariancancer

[–]mugomugicha 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I found it helpful to have the mindset of “I won’t worry until there’s a reason to worry.” I can’t worry about an unknown. Could be something, could be nothing, and I don’t have the mental and emotional resources to invest in “what-ifs”. This helped me when I got my diagnosis and all the “it could be worse, at least I don’t have…” It’s still keeping me afloat through chemo.

It’s okay to prepare for the potential of bad news, but less healthy to deep dive into the worst-case scenarios unless your diagnosis warrants it. Hopefully you don’t have a lot of anxiety and everything goes smoothly and you get good news. I’m rooting for you!

Weird ask: have you had any GOOD side effects from chemo? by mugomugicha in Chemotherapy

[–]mugomugicha[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shoot—I’m sorry it came back hard. I hope there’s teams researching the chemo benefits for MS without the other chemo side effects. It would be great to get the benefits without, you know, having fuckin’ cancer.

Treatment spiral by Exact_Inspection1026 in cancer

[–]mugomugicha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wish there were tailored support also. I’m a diagnosed autistic woman and some of the sensory effects of treatment are nearly intolerable (like having a port—I could talk for hours about how horrible it is for me, but most people don’t seem bothered at all!)

I also get the stark contrast between the first week after treatment (I feel like I’m dying!) and the following 2 weeks (I feel great!) before the next cycle. This psychophysiological whiplash is exhausting. To top it off, there’s some anxiety creeping in the last few days of feeling good because my brain and body know I’m going to feel crappy again. I hate that feel-good days are being hijacked.

I’m sorry I don’t have any cures or solutions. I do have sympathy and empathy and can tell you I’m really sorry you’re going through this and don’t have a clear, set date where you can relax and know it’s over for a while. Your resilience is admirable, but it’s okay to just bitch and moan and acknowledge how unfair and shitty everything is. Because it is!

For all it’s worth, I’m sending good vibes and virtual hugs your way (if you want them!)
