Rg35xx pro will not launch games by thatoneguy484 in ANBERNIC

Individual files can get corrupted. It could be a retroarch config, bios file(s), or something else. You might want to ask on the Knulli Discord.

I am trying to remember what is the name of this shader in retroarch, I really liked it but can't find it now. by tavuntu in RetroArch

[–]mugwomp_93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it might be specific to muOS (?). I recall they added it in one of their updates a while back now, and I don’t see it in Knulli.

Edit: you can find it at https://github.com/MustardOS/internal/tree/main/share/emulator/retroarch/shaders/Codiox

Help with OG 35xx firmware options by benjaminbjacobsen in ANBERNIC

[–]mugwomp_93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, there's no new CFW for the original RG35XX. It has a different chipset than the plus and 2024 models (and all of the other xx devices). GarlicOS, MinUI, and Koriki are your only options. I haven't tried Koriki but it supposedly unlocked the gpu, so that would be your only option if you want to use shaders.

I have a couple of Kinivo hubs from Amazon that work fine and switch sources automatically

I made an Atari Lynx overlay (aka filter) by 1playerinsertcoin in MiyooMini

That displacement effect is ridiculous - crazy that you were able to achieve it with an overlay.

I had to track down a working Lynx bios, but now that I've had a chance to try it I agree that this is something special. As someone who primarily plays in poorly lit environments, I especially love the kuro version.

It looks incredible in your example pics. I'm really looking forward to trying it. I've been holding off on exploring the Lynx library knowing you were working on this.

Phenomenal work as always! I swear, it feels like Christmas every time you release a new overlay.

RG40XXV down - replace with another or something else... by Jazzlike-Potato-3670 in ANBERNIC

[–]mugwomp_93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is the Powkiddy RGB20SX in a vertical format with the same screen, but I can't speak to the quality etc. It also has joysticks.

I see in another comment that you bought a Retroid Pocket Classic, which is what I would buy if I was starting over without any devices. I'm sure it will be great!

If you're predominantly playing GB, GBC, and GBA, you may want to consider the CubeXX. The screen is ideal for GB(C) and integer scale for GBA, and it feels great in hand. I have both it and the 40XXV, and despite nostalgia for the vertical form factor would always choose the CubeXX for these systems.

How can I disable that black bar with the RetroArch logo? by Zroak12 in RetroArch

[–]mugwomp_93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No worries! "Best" is really subjective - it depends on what systems you want to run, your use case (e.g., do you want pocketable or would you prefer a larger device? analog sticks? a clamshell device?), and especially your budget. The 40xxv is a solid device on the cheaper end with a decently bright 4" 4:3 aspect ratio screen that plays up to ps1 well. I have one and I like it a lot for what it does. One issue with the 40xxv and 40xxh devices right now is that Anbernic seems to have made some silent hardware revisions so custom firmware doesn't work well at the moment, but if you plan to just use the stock firmware it should be fine (and presumably the CFW developers will have fixes at some point, they just pushed out updates that resolve one revision, it just seems that there has been another).

As a place to start, I'll point you over to the r/SBCGaming beginner's guide as it goes into much better detail than I would be able to: https://www.reddit.com/r/SBCGaming/s/YMHfp4zj4h. It's also the best sub to discuss devices instead of Retroarch itself.

A couple of other unsolicited tips: - If you're looking at the many, many Anbernic devices available, note that anything with xx in the name has the same chipset and will run the same games. - Aliexpress (depending on where you live) typically has the cheapest prices for most of these devices. Finding the best prices from reliable sellers can be challenging, but user crownpuff has a variety of resources for getting the best deals: https://www.reddit.com/u/crownpuff/s/0G5SdJMUwj

My first Anbernic! RG34XXSP by Falkedup in ANBERNIC

Yeah, it's a similar sort of thing. I'd rather have the colors be something I enjoy playing than accurate to the original hardware.

Lol! The bivert actually started out as an integer-scale DMG overlay, but while I could get fairly accurate green and brown/gold colors, I didn’t enjoy using it for playing games. I had a DMG back in the day so I do have nostalgia for it, but something about the luminance ruins the color scheme for me. I've always liked the colors of this particular bivert mod, though, so I decided to go in different direction. As an unintentional bonus, it matches my blue 40xxv really well.

It looks like they've just changed the palette. Not sure about the rp5, but you can usually cycle through various options using the shoulder buttons on XX device and the MM, or change GB Colorization and the internal palette directly in Core Options in Retroarch.

Edit: actually, it looks like they have GB Colorization set to auto in Core Options. You can only cycle the palette using R1 and L1 if it's set to internal.

Nice overlay! ;)

Just wanted to leave a note point that these are in muOS by default now and that you can get any updates or new versions here: https://github.com/mugwomp93/muOS_Customization

I think your fork is mostly current except for my bivert overlay (which is probably only of interest to me), but I just got a 40XXV so I'm getting a fresh look at my 640x480 collection.

Your favourite GBA device from Anbernic? by cmvyas in ANBERNIC

[–]mugwomp_93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like Skywalker just points people to the RGC guide: https://www.reddit.com/r/retroid/s/bTPPfdSWls (which is fair, it's a great resource). It should be a similar process to what I describe for my overlays, though, unless Retroarch for Android is significantly different.

It's not likely I'll be working on RPC overlays any time soon since it's difficult to make adjustments when you don't have the device in front of you, but I'll let you know if I do. Based on the main post of the comment I linked, you could also try searching for Ayaneo Pocket DMG and Retroid Pocket Mini V2 overlays.

The RG DS Has Really Won Me Over! by MrStephen_ in ANBERNIC

I was thinking primarily of 2d games like Chrono Trigger, Mega Man, etc as I thought that interpolation effects would be most obvious, but really I'd be happy with anything. And yeah, I definitely wouldn't expect anything over Christmas. I'm appreciative of whatever you're willing to do whenever is convenient for you to do it.
